This week was all about upgrading the workshop and Dust Collection. I recently purchased the Sherwood 2HP 2 Stage Dust Collector for $1100. In this video I go through Tips for construction and test some of the tools.
I purchased the Dust Collector from Timbercon

G’day Ainslee, you know that if you capture 90-95% of dust that’s nearly perfect & the Sherwood set up looks really good. I’ve found by just having a mitre saw box & router table tray I’ve improved my dust capture. Great start to 2021 🇦🇺🍻👍

maybe with the mitre saw add a 30mm false floor in the dust hood with a mesh pattern of 20mm holes like a sanding down draft table but covering the whole floor of the dust hood so as soon as it falls anywhere it is sucked up

Just wondering how you dispose of all the sawdust in the drum, do you have a bag in it for easy disposal?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 2 года назад
That model is dust collector can’t have a bag in it. I put it into garbage bags and throw out. If you are a heavy workshop user and fill dust collectors all the time I would go the model up from mine which allows a bag in it. I don’t have to empty mine that often so I can easily take the time to tip it into a large garbage bag. Hope this helps 😀
@jac_builtWoodworks

@@SmallFryCreations Interesting. The Carbatec version of this dust collector does allow for a bag, strange the sherwood doesn't. Not sure which one I'll go with yet, it's really only going to be for my Table Saw at this stage so may even go with a single stage.
@TheWhitde

thankyou. Given these are 120mm or 2x100mm why settle for a 50mm one.

😀 thank you. Yes the family are awesome at helping. They sat behind the camera all day and were great help 😀 I went with the Sherwood because of price and size. It’s very compact for a two stage and with my limited space I could fit it in. I didn’t want to go single stage and then try and turn it into two stage down the line and it be big and bulky. You only just unpacked yours 😂😂 it will be great 😀😀

Great video the filter on the extractor what does that go down to 1 micron ? I have a cnc router and was looking for a extractor
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Год назад
Hi Dave. Thank you. Yes I believe down to 1micron. I think it would be great for a CNC. Its a bit of a pain to empty and if its in the budget the model up from mine allows you to put a bag in the black bin which is easier to empty but if not in the budget the one I have is great and works really well. The empty is the only thing I don't love about it.

Very cool dust collection system; love what you have done with the miter saw; the dust box and the pipe system. Just a thought on your table saw, and probably the thickness planer, a camera mount directly above, looking down on them, would probably be really cool. What is the white thing under the miter saw? Kind of looks like a computer.
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Thank you 😃 the over head mount is a great idea 😀 the white thing is the current thicknesser. I will replace that with the new Sherwood one 😀

HI, How does it run? Is their any dust leakage (eg around the plastic bag? Thanks Dan
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 11 месяцев назад
Hey Dan. Machine runs really well. There is very small amount of dust leakage near the motor but I wouldn't say its anything bad. The plastic bag has none. The major downside to the machine I have found since owning it is because you can't have a bag in the dust collection bucket its very annoying to empty. If I had my time again and the budget allowed I would go the model above mine as you can put a bag in the dusts bucket and it would make emptying much easier. Hope this helps.

Nice job! Have you got the blade guard with dust collection for the saw ? That would likely catch most of the above-table dust. On the point re pool hose and screeching, it may well screech on a shop vac since that works at high pressure and you end up with acoustic resonance (like a car exhaust). Thanks for the tip on the Record Power vac, was thinking of getting one but now won't.
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
I don’t have the over arm but I could get it down the line because your right it would help for sure. Yeah we will see if the pool hose. So far so good 😀 I think the issue with the record power one is the filter is right where the dust comes in so it hits the first straight away and clogs so quickly. I’m not sure if other brands that have similar dust collectors are designed the same but something to look out for 😀

Great channel and videos, has taught me a lot! How is the dusty going now that a few months has passed? Planning to buy something rather than relying on the shop vac, was initially thinking about a single stage 2HP but am thinking maybe a cyclone setup is better. CFM is lower on the specs but it still seems to work well in your videos? Thanks and keep up the good work
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Hey thank you so much. The dusty is going great. The dust collection on the thicknesser is 95%. I do think the helical head on the thicknesser helps but still awesome. Does quite well on the table saw as well. Overall it has improved the dust collection. My recommendation would be a two stage. As it does make a difference. I’m super happy with it. Hope that helps. Thanks for all the support 😀

This is a great setup. I'm a bit jealous but very happy for you. Did you think about using the record just for the miter saw? That is a tool that is often used sporadically and it would free up the other line from the Sherwood for another tool such as a sanding machine?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
I did but I don’t have the space to put it behind the miter saw because of the storage rack. The dust collect is so strong I could run another line in the future if I have another tool that needed it. I’m super happy with the setup now 😀😀

Another great video. I'm really glad I found your channel. How have you found this machine after using it for a few months now? I am tossing up between this and the single stage 2hp Sherwood. Do you think this machine is worth the extra $700 for a small shop hobbyist?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Thank you. For me it came down to footprint and buying long term. Most people start with a single stage and then want to upgrade their system to two stage later. If I had done that the footprint would become to big and I wouldn’t be able to fit it in my small shop. Personally I’m very happy I went with the 2stage 2 Hp. It’s plenty strong for my workshop and does a great job. Thanks for the support and good luck with the purchasing.

thanks for the vid! What's louder you reckon, your table saw or the dusty?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Ooo that’s thought. I would say table saw maybe. Only because the dust collector has one sound and doesn’t change so appears quite as it’s just one hum. The table saw changes as you run stuff through it so I would say table saw but I always have noise canceling headphones in so I don’t hear much 😂😀

Hi again, I ordered the unit after watching your video. Do you remember roughly how large the packing was? I think I'll need to build a dolly to get the unit into my garage. How did you manage to get it in? Thanks
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Oh that’s awesome. I love mine. It comes on a pallet. I have a dolly which did help bring the pallet inside but you could open the pallet wherever the delivery drive drops it and then bring the pieces in. Nothing is to heavy just some of the larger pieces are a little awkward if your on your own.

That's a sweet setup there! Did you add another circuit/sub-circuit to your electrical to have the dust collector run together with the table saw for example? Thanks in advance!
@SmallFryCreations

Hey thank you. Nope no added circuit. Everything runs off the one. No dramas running the dust collector with a tool at the same time 😀
