Shimano Curado DC vs. Shimano SLX DC My thoughts!

@@OnAnotherLine lol i wouldn’t call it a beginner reel or price point, it’s definitely a lot harder to set compared to a regular bait caster reel

@@knotenoughfishing3612 Well, typically they come set out of the box. The price point is a little tough to swallow for a beginner, but the fact that you don't really have to mess with it once it's set is a big selling point for me. Changing lures on a typical bait caster is a lot harder than with a DC. JMO

@@OnAnotherLine yeah , I’ve been using a bait caster for 10 years but the what I personally like about the DC reel it helps when casting with minimum room, or being able to cast under hand or with the opposite hand with confidence and not have to worry about bird nesting. I use it for team tournaments when boat space is minimum so we have to be diverse with casting to fish the same spot. My favorite reel! The curado is nice too but for the price difference I’d say the slx is just as good.

I agree with the looks aspect. I made a mistake in the video and said the Curado k had HEG gears and it doesn’t. It has micro module gears and is a phenomenal reel. Add those gears to the Curado DC and it’s unreal. I like both the slx and Curado dc, but I agree on the color scheme. Thanks for watching.

You’re exactly right. I have 15 year old Shimano stuff that I throw right along with my Curado DC. One of the main reasons I fish Shimano is the longevity of their products.

I appreciate the comment. I always learn new things with I post these videos. They do have different bearings, but as far as casting both brand new reels, I couldn't tell the difference. Longevity could be an issue with the SLX, but we will have to wait and see. Thanks for watching!

Max Muzones The slx actually has graphite side plates. That doesn’t bother me, personally. So does my aldebaran and that thing is an absolute monster. It’s funny that you found the slx not to be smooth. One of the first things I noticed was how nice it felt on the retrieve. Almost as nice as my metanium and that thing is just about as good as it gets.

To be honest, if you want to upgrade eventually, do it. However, there are only a few differences in the Curado DC and the SLX DC. One of those is pretty big, though. Micromodule gearing is awesome. You'll notice a smoother feeling reel from that addition.

The Reelist I couldn’t answer that for ya. I do think that the reels with micromodule gearing seem to have a bigger side plate than this reel does. I’m sure the micro gears would fit the shaft and all, but I’d say you’d run into trouble with room in the side plate. If you put it off, please let me know.

Brendan Woerner both the Curado DC and the SLX DC are both saltwater rated. As long as you don’t submerge it and clean it regularly it’ll be fine.

Brendan Woerner the curado curado dc are fantastic for saltwater. Curados are the standard bang for buck saltwater baitcaster here in texas bays.

As far as the difference in sizes, I don’t think there is much difference between the Curado and the slx. They both are small in the hand and if the slx is smaller, it’s not by much. They both feel great to me with the limited amount of time I got to spend with the slx so far.

I know for sure you can cast an 1/8oz lure because I’ve done it with both the slx and curado. It would depend on the diameter of line you were using ultimately.

Given they were the same price, it would be a no brainer to pickup the Curado DC. You're going to get better bearings and gears.

haical evryan I like them both equally as far as the DC capabilities go. However, the Curado is a lot more smooth on the retrieve due to the micromodule gearing. I guess it depends on whether or not you can justify the extra $70 for the Curado. They are both great reels.

C&J Outdoors i don’t know that to be honest, but I’d say no. You’d get get no advantage in doing so as they are both the same DC module in both reels.

Jake T I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it. If you are wanting an all around rod I’d go with the 6.3:1, but if you are flipping and pitching I’d get the XG at 8.2:1 to pick up more line.

Josh Kendrick to be honest, there is nothing that compares to an NRX. With that said, I love my expride also. The weight is comparable and the components on both are amazing, but the sensitivity isn’t anything like the NRX.

Try tightening the spool tension knob just a bit. I tightened it just to eliminate the side play like it said to in the instructions but I found i was still backlashing too.

Yep! No problem at all. As with all reels, it’s not good to submerge it, but it is water resistant and can survive a submersion as long as it’s not too deep and not for an extended amount of time.
