Saw her 3 time in Montreal all because of this song, getting on the highway on Friday night and almost broke the sound barrier before the end of the first chorus. Turned around and slept outside to get 6 sixth row tickets. Her twelve string acoustic guitar work is extraordinary.

Man, late 80's and 90's one of the best live acts there was - she'd blow the doors off buildings and let her heart bleed out on stage. Must have played those first 3 albums 1000 times, they were great for road trips too. When I think of her these days usually what comes to mind first is Dance without Sleeping or Keep it Precious off Never Enough.

Melissa was one of those dozen or so women who kept rock & roll and pop music alive through the doldrums of the late 80s and the 90s. Great song, great artist to follow up on, as she has a pretty deep catalogue of recorded music.

It’s not a man. It’s her woman this song was released about 5 years before she publicly came out as a lesbian. She’s been “out” for about 30 years now.

Her entire first album avoids mentioning the gender of her partner. I’m not sure if that’s a way to avoid controversy or promote inclusion, but her lyrics are brilliant. In this particular case, she and her partner mutually and amicably agreed to see others so Melissa could spend time on her music career, but she had a hard time moving forward from that relationship.

I can’t recommend highly enough that you join the rest of us and come down the REN rabbit hole. 1) Hi Ren 2) Chalk Outlines ft. Chinchilla (live) 3) Sick Boi And that’s just to start. He is an artist whose misdiagnosed illness and subscribed medications for years produced mental illness…all of which he has, and is, fighting to comeback from and be healthier. He is a generational talent. I can’t recommend him strongly enough

You both love Dolly so you should check out Dolly and Melissa singing this song together on CMT Crossroads from 2003. It's mostly Dolly singing it with Melissa in the background but Dolly rocks it and you can tell Melissa has so much respect for Dolly. The entire episode they did of CMT Crossroads was amazing!!!

"Silent Legacy" by Melissa Etheridge is, in my opinion, the most powerful of her songs. She wrote it as a reflection on the challenge of being a gay woman, but I accept a broader interpretation of the challenges of everybody who's ever been stigmatized. 😇🙂
