Shoe Trees: the best way to extend shoe life

In this video I show how and why to use shoe trees, as well as some of the most common types. Maybe I should rephrase it something I said in the video… I'm not sure that greatest benefit of a shoe tree is necessarily EXTENDING the life of the shoe, but it keeps your shoes LOOKING new.
I believe most of the new shoe trees available today are made by either Woodlore or Rochester. Make sure you purchase the correct size shoe tree for your shoe size snd width (the size is usually either stamped into the wood or inked on the underside of the shoe tree). They will come in S (small) M (medium) L (large) XL (extra large) etc.
Many companies will purchase shoe trees from one of these manufacturers and then have their custom nameplate attached.

I got some shoe trees nordstorm, dillard, rochester for like 4.49 per pair. I got like 4 of them. Should've gotten more. But when i went in the evening, they were all gone. They are split toes but they lack profile to fill the vamp properly. Im thinking i will just fill with newspaper or wrapping paper to get better fit.

Would you recommend usiong shoe trees in work boots like Iron Rangers? I've read people complain that shoe trees flattened out their 'hard-acquired' foot impression. Thanks

I don't see how a propper fitting shoe tree can flatten out a foot impression?? I'm not a big boot person, but if they're boots you're wearing every day, I would look for trees with cut outs to let air circulate. There are boot shoe trees available too.

Future Skills yes you're right! I've read that Cedar has natural antibacterial properties. Someone once even gave me the suggestion to take old cedar shoe trees and lightly sand them down to open the pores back up.

People have been using plastic shoe trees. Really lame as it only stretches the shoe and does nothing else.

I'd say as long as they're wood, then you're good. (Hey, that rhymed!) Cedar does provide that nice characteristic smell though. Still, even a plastic shoe tree is better than none at all.
