@ZeginMakesMusic
@ZeginMakesMusic 14 дней назад
The size of the box is irrelevant to your yield. The calculation should be based off of the total amount of substrate and grain. Once the mycelium runs out of food, it fruits. Once it runs out of moisture, it dies.
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand 14 дней назад
Thank you for the very simple explanation. Unfortunately, it's a bit too simple. The total amount of substrate and the ratio are very important depending on the size of the box and/or container. Ask anyone who has used quart jars, 2-liter bottles, PP5 bags, monotubs, shoeboxes, etc. They will tell you how every new growing system needs to be tweaked for a particular cultigen, spawn/sub ratios, FAE, ambient conditions, filter patch type, etc.

I have some colonizing in a shoebox do I leave the lid closed or should I crack the lid? Mine don’t have locking handles it’s just one piece (lid) what temp should I keep it at colonizing and do I lower the temp when I go to fruiting?

So are you saying ANY mono would eventually make a full canopy like that or do you have to select traits that lead to full canopies?
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand Год назад
Here I am talking about a 'monoculture' (not a monkaryon). In other words, a clone of a phenotype that is desirable. Here is what I posted on FB: "To get a monoculture (not monokaryon; although that would be a monoculture too), you just clone the inside of the stem or cap of a nice phenotype from a previous grow on agar (I have a YT video). A lot of people will start with a multi-spore grow (e.g. T0 swab plate, BRF/PF tek cakes or MSS on agar) and select a fruit from that grow to clone. Clone that fruit to agar, grow it out, make spawn and fruit. The fruits from a monoculture will be much more consistent, although being in a new environment with no competing brothers and sisters, they might not exhibit exactly the same phenotype again. You can just repeat that process until you get what you want."
@gratefuldoge8598
@gratefuldoge8598 Год назад
@@edwardgrand thanks Edward that makes sense, would you say that it is more the technique filling your tub that allows for any given mono (culture/karyon) to produce an even and dense “canopy”. Do you ever experience one that fails to do so at all?
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand Год назад
@@gratefuldoge8598 I am running new genetics all the time and don't try for canopies. I just thought that one looked nice. Failure is always an option in this hobby.

Hey Ed. Nice outfit 🤣 Aaargh… I was hoping to see how you actually harvest these little guys! Until now my flushes were modest enough that I was happy to pluck them one by one. However I’m getting my first very dense canopies (yay!), and thinking of sharpening my kitchen knife… What’s your take on that? Cutting and leaving stumps? Good or bad idea?

What do you use as a top ? Do you crack the lid if you use that to fruit ?
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand 9 месяцев назад
The showboxes come with a lid. I leave it on while the sub/spawn consolidates into a cake. I remove the lid when I put it into my Martha or bigger tent. I occasionally use the lid as a cover if the surface starts looking dry.
@ItsCheechFool
@ItsCheechFool 9 месяцев назад
@@edwardgrand I run humidifiers with sterilized hot water in them set at 80% have to refill 3 times a day but I’d rather touch the humidifiers then my shoeboxes but yeah also people have to realize how many contams there are simply floating around even after they clean flowhood all that. If I can set a humidifier in another room and it increases the humidity in the specific room that means the whole level of which you are on effects the specific area. Mycelium is simply a more resistant contam. Trich is def roaming in the air and in the coco coir.
@ItsCheechFool
@ItsCheechFool 9 месяцев назад
@@edwardgrand also how long can I leave a quart jar colonizing ? Can I put it in fridge if I’m not ready to use it yet? They ready for transplant but I wanna see my first two bins fruit before I do these babies got a super head start on them they already 30 days in
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand 9 месяцев назад
@@ItsCheechFoolI try to use my spawn within 6 weeks. I used to put stuff in the fridge, but I've found it usually leads to contam and condensation problems. If you can use it within 2 months, I wouldn't refrigerate it.
@edwardgrand
@edwardgrand 9 месяцев назад
@@ItsCheechFoolI have totally switched over to 'diaper tek' using soaked incontinence pads for humidification in my Marthas and 4x8 tent. No humidifiers or cleaning necessary. I just toss them when they start to look crusty. Check out my 'tent camping' videos. Your right, the ambient humidity definitely affects what type of refill schedule, cleaning regime, etc. we have to do. I don't do any cleaning of the tents. I just try to keep the liquid water condensation to a minimum and get rid of anything sketchy very quickly. Thanks for the comments :)
