Practicing with your compound bow from a treestand or hunting saddle is the BEST way to improve your skills as a bow hunter. In this video I climb up into my tree stand with my compound bow and fling a couple of arrows at a 3D deer target. The results might be surprising to new bow hunters! #compoundbow #bowhunting

Great video. Practice like you hunt. Couldn't agree more. Something I did when I had a 3d target. When I started shooting early in the year, I put piece of duct tape or something bright right on the heart. About a month before the season, I took it off. But that picture was always in my head and I could visualize it. Also, deer move and will jump the string, even at 20 yards. If you're going to "miss your spot" miss it exactly like you did. They will move into the arrow pretty much every time. It's amazing how much they actually move. Keep doing what you're doing. 👍

Super important safety information !!! I had a friend fall out of a tree stand and shattered both of his ankles and without getting to graphic he lost a good bit of blood. Anyway he had to crawl out of the woods because he had left his cell phone in his truck and he told me he managed to drag himself into his truck some how to call 911 . It took him the better part of a year to fully recover. Many people have fell to their death or serious life long lasting injuries out of tree stands. Thank you again this for these safety precautions it is so important that so many of us look over...

Good job! One minor tip that might help while traveling up the ladder is to cinch up the safety rope (if its not the same as your bow-pull-up-cord) at the bottom to prevent it from pulling up when pushing up the prussic. That way you can use one hand instead of 2 to adjust the prussic. And yeah as others have said, practice shooting from a seat on the ground will help before moving higher in the tree.

Shooting very well keep it up - aim small! Also looking like you're incorporating back tension to fire instead of the trigger finger - a huge improvement over the past year! Really like seeing you trying to shoot from different positions but don't forget to have Nick move the target... maybe a really hard quartering away, which would surprise you how far back you poi should be - think of where you want the arrow to exit. Hope to see you practice from a saddle.

Great job Allie! 👍 the shot placement on the 3D is fine because deer in many instances at 20+ yards will hear that string and arrow flight before impact creating them to tense up, drop their backs a bit (sometimes 6-8”). Yes, then can hear the arrow. Had your shot impacted same location on a whitetail while they’re dropping, you’re hitting lungs. And if they don’t drop, you have yourself a heart shot. If you Aim any higher, you risk a spine shot or even worse, over top and miss. No Bueno 🙂👍

Shooting good groups but I noticed you're not bending your waist..youre dropping your bow arm to aim at the target.Thats the reason for not finding your anchor point..Bending at the waist keeps the bow arm in line with the pull arm/ sholder..Keeps everything in line.

the easiest way to think about it specially while training is that your arm/shoulders are all one piece and give you your elevation of the shot. the way I ingrained it into my shooting was to make yourself into a T, look down my left arm (bow arm) and tilt the T keeping it all in line.
@km6731
@km6731 4 года назад
Your arrow placement on the first round as im writing this is great in my opinion. Check out the Ranch Fairy video on his compilation of animals jumping the string. You are way better off to be hitting where you ended up and them reacting than being higher and they react putting you in no mans land. Great video. you are definitely an asset to the bowhunting community.

@Sonicguy95
@Sonicguy95 4 года назад
Try eating ground, its hard to recognize it from beef, especially if some beef fat was added. But I really like it pure. With loin, I like making steaks in a cast skillet. Use butter as oil. Cook steaks not to complete doneness and remove. Add julienned onion, green pepper, and mushrooms (canned or fresh). Cook till onions are translucent. At this point you can season with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning mix. Then add loins back for final cooking. Or you could season at the end. Its best to use a 12+ inch skillet but can get it done with a 10 1/2”. I’ve had round steaks but are hard to cook. They are very tough. I’ve had slow cooked with red wine, beef broth, and vegetables. I prefer roasting in oven with just vegetables but its pretty tough to cut and chew. I need to experiment with marinades that break down muscle like pineapple juice and another product that starts with a “c” but escapes my memory.

Aim small, miss small!! I think the reason your struggling from an elevated position is because of your body position. You need to bend from the waist. I start by drawing like I'm shooting horizontal, then I focus on maintaining my "T" position as I bend at the waist. The keeps me from dropping my bow arm. After I've practiced a lot. I can start bent at the waist and then draw my bow. Kudos to actually practicing from your hunting positions. Most hunters don't and then wonder why they miss. Keep it up!!

You're compensating for the angle by changing the angle between your bow arm and your torso. Try keeping the angle between your bow arm and torso at 90 degrees and instead compensate for the angle by bending at the waist. Your shots will be more accurate and consistent that way. It keeps your anchor and your peep and sight housing alignment consistent.

I really like your videos. I have to disagree with you about getting away with aiming high vs low. I have been bow hunting for over 20yrs and I am telling you from experience. Anytime you are shooting from a elevated stand (over 10ft or so) and the deer is at 20yds or farther, you should ALWAYS aim at the lower 1/3 portion of the deer. Even if you are shooting a really fast bow. A deer can lower itself in a split second. You can get away with it if the wind is blowing of there's some road noise etc. Hit a few high in the back and you will understand what I'm saying. Other than that...great video.

I'm wondering how many hunters get hurt setting up new tree stands. Not likely any safety ropes being used.

one thing I would REALLY like to see someone do (seen it in a more confusing video), is to show the 1/4 and 3/4 angling shots and how you have to re-imagine where the lungs and heart are. so many times Ive seen wanna be hunters shoot as tho their target is printed on the side of the animal. ok you hit the outline of the heart, but because you are at 1/4 or 3/4 shot you missed all the vitals. when I am shooting at game I imagine almost as tho like a movie using x-ray vision or in a game replay where the position of the hear and lungs move around inside of the animal, and my shots must compensate for that. your actual target is not the deer but more like a target inside of a box. you must hunt and shoot in a 3 dimensional world.

Have you seen an actual skeleton of a deer with organs....picture. the shot placement can be placed farther forward in the shoulder than you would think, as to not get a gut shot.

Agreed. Depending on the leg/scapula position as well.

Good shooting but something notice you are doing is you are dropping your bow arm to aim.try drawing completely horizontal and then bend at the waist,instead of dropping your arm.i bet you will see a difference in your groups. You are getting away with it at distance, but at closer ranges let's say eight to ten yards if you just drop your arm to aim I promise you will shoot four to six inches high. Not trying to harsh on you or anything just trying to let a fellow hunter learn from my mistakes. I missed the biggest buck of my life at ten yards. And it was from dropping my bow arm instead of bending at the waist. Keep shooting girl and keep at it.

It is poor practice to point your bow up in the draw. All it takes is a bump on the trigger and your arrow will fly hundreds of yards hitting who knows what. I learned it the hard way. Since then I always draw my bow pointing down encase of a miss fire it is in a safe direction. I enjoy your videos. Thanks

you need to aim low on a deer ,cuz they jump the sting. if you dont you could miss or make a bad hit all together.

Didn’t anyone els cringe at that carabiner etiquette of her screwing up vs down “always screw down, so you don’t screw up”. Does take some getting used to.

Please don't do what you were talking about at 2:37. You need to be very confident of location or who are you going to pay to spray paint or put a dot on the deer? LOL My brother-in-law went deer hunting (rifle) back in 1974in Pennsylvania and couldn't believe how many cows and bulls were painted with COW on them and still a few of them got shot and turned in at the DNR Check station as being deer. LOL
