I built a set of hunting arrows specifically for whitetail deer season! The Gear Guide Trophy Hunter arrows weigh 8.2 GIP which is 0.8 grains lighter than my elk arrows (Easton Axis arrow, 9 grains per inch). I decided to build out these light carbon arrow specifically for whitetail hunting.

Allie, love the hair, and the arrows! lots of beauty and strength in this vid! 💪 Three arrow devices that are in my eyes mandatory, an arrow squaring tool, balance tool (roller), and a scale.

I use these exact same arrows. Guide Gear Trophy Hunter Pro's in 350 spine. They're actually made by Victory archery. I have mine cut at 29 1/2 inches with 200 grain brass inserts topped with a 125 grain Muzzy Phantom. Yes, I like a lot of FOC for good reason. They are awesome arrows at a great value. I'm using these for my upcoming blacktail season. Love the passion you have for the outdoors Allie. Keep it up.

Great job!! It's awesome to see how far you've come! Make sure after you're more comfortable to practice positions you'll be in while hunting. Shoot out of a stand, kneeling, sitting, one leg up etc. My friends and I used to play a game like "pig or horse" in basketball. First person would pick a spot and position and angle to shoot from (no rangefinders are allowed during the game), If he makes a good shot, then the next person has to make it. If they miss they get a letter and so forth. Just a fun way to practice a lot of skills you'll need for hunting. Keep up the great videos!!

I just finished my new whitetail arrow build this year - I shoot a PSE unleashed at 58# with a 26.5" draw length so my arrows would work for your setup fine. They are Beeman speed 400 spine arrows cut at 28.5" with 2" blazer vanes with a 100g. brass insert. You can shoot any 100g broadhead you want but the final arrow weight is around 450 grains with a nocturnal lighted nock and my FOC is still at 18.4% which is awesome. They fly like darts and penetrate great. If you lose the nocturnal the weight drops slightly but the FOC jumps to over 19%. The GT velocity 400 works well with the same build. I made some of those up with 50g brass inserts but shoot them with my 150g single bevel grizzly heads. FOC is almost 20% with a finished weight of 438g. Yes I know these aren't ranch fairy "adult" arrows but mine are adolescent arrows for sure!

Outdoors Allie great now get a 100 grain brass insert and increase the lethality of your arrows. Unfortunately that’s prob gonna overwhelm the 400 spine and make them shoot like a noodle. Go back up to a 300-330. What your using now is a sleet load when ya need a magnum. If you’re worried that I sound like a crack pot, look up Dr Ashby study on arrow lethality.

Those are good arrows for the money. Last month I bought a half dozen of them 350 spine and cut about 1/2" on them myself (dremel setup). Came with inserts. I did add a dab of glue on the fletching leading and trailing edges for durability. They shoot straight and hit hard for me using a 150 grain field point. They weighed out with the field points in at about 452 grains each complete. I'm a 20 yard and under shots (if possible) whitetail and hog hunter.

Those are really good hunting shafts for the money. They are victory vforce shafts rebranded for sportsman’s guise. I shoot the vforce shaft because the trophy hunter shafts don’t come in .300 spine. I consistently get under two inch groups at 50 yards with these, and have killed deer with them for the last 10 or so years.

By no means am I an archery expert. I work daily to perfect my form and accuracy. Consistency is key. My son and I video each other so that we can see bad habits. When the camera is looking at you straight on, you tend to lean back toward you shooting hand after you come to full draw. Work to keep your upper body inline with your hips. It will help your accuracy. It doesn't appear that you do it every time, or some are more pronounced than others. Archery is fun, but it's much like golf, even small things make a difference. Keep having fun. Enjoyed the video.

@StoneyWV
@StoneyWV 4 года назад
I appreciate you enthusiasm and diligence in yourarrow building, it is super fun to do. I would challenge that when you are into tenths of a grain your beyond what is capable of accuracy unless you are cutting X's at 20 yards. 125 grain points are probably going to get you moving a little slow through the Chrono which might hurt overall hunting situations worse than the gain from the better FOC. A little flatter is better unless you hunt over a bait pile that is at a known specific distance most game shots are moving in or out of range after you hit them with range finder so the less drop in yardage will be way more beneficial in the field. Also, I have to say work on straightening that bow arm and draw level then pivot at the hip. You are leaning back when at full draw.

2 invaluable purchases; #1 would be the Lumenok arrow squaring tool which u can mount perpendicular to your fletching tool on a nice piece of wood that is 6" wide & stained. I do both ends of the arrow b4 installing nock & fletching. #2 Bomar nose button. Yeah, people say that u can tie serving on your string & it's the same. Nope, not when it gets cold & u r wearing a mask or your face is cold which makes your anchor point funky. I shot a kisser for years. Nose button has lots of value & is well made plus u get 2 sizes to tinker with, & u know u like to tinker,🤔

You should number your arrows so you can easily identify any “flyers”. I use Muzzy 3 blades so I line up my fletching with my broadheads. Quartering toward you aim at leading shoulder. Quartering away aim at the off side shoulder. That’ll put you in the boiler room every time.

The most important thing about arrows are that they as identical to each other as possible. Second is how they fly out of your bow and onto the target. A technical shooter requires that everything is the same for every shot. That way your arrow flight is zeroed to your sight. Since I'm an instinctive shooter I have a little more tolerance to mismatched arrows. They're really the only variable when I shoot. I don't normally shoot heavy and light arrows. The tips are the determining factor when I shoot. Practice, Judo tips, blunts and hunting tips all make the identical arrows fly differently. Large bladed hunting arrows can plane, i.e. curve, during flight and need to tuned, rotate the tip to get a straight shot. Practice, practice, practice.

I'm no expert by a long shot so take this for what it's worth. You have the same habit that I had while practicing. You sky draw your bow. I'm not saying not to but the more you move the more the animal can catch your movement. I was told to raise my bow to aim and them pull it straight back. It's way harder to draw this way so if you choose to do it you may have to wait on upping the poundage of your bow. Also stop practicing when you start to feel fatigued that causes all sorts of bad habits. I wish you luck on your future hunting endeavors.

Make sure your epoxy has a high heat. Because if you don't get a high temp when you start practicing you will be pulling out just a blank arrow and it tears up good targets. I have found shooting high power bows will cause most epoxy will let go because of high heat from arrow and field or target tip just went into the target.

I'm shooting a Mathews too. I have both types of targets (in fact, I have that exact same 3D target) and for some reason, I'm far more consistently accurate with the deer target. In fact, I'm dead on with the deer. I also learned to stop shooting after a few rounds. Fatigue sets in and has me 2nd guessing myself. It's a lesson that all the greats press; It's better to shoot a little everyday that you can rather than to try to shoot a lot on one day. BTW, I'd take that group all day. Good job. ☺

i find putting a tiny dot on (as) my aim point really tightens my groups a 1" white dot on the 3d deer will help loads i use a 1" black dot on a white target 130m away with a ffp sight on my 177 rifle and end up shooting golf balls or eggs ( always a buzz watching them explode ), yeah shrinking your aim point will shrink your group with practice ,

4mm spine thats super slim . iv bèen looking for a 4mm 400 spine arrow with less grain per inch than the fmj 4mm spines , AND can get them to the UK . i shoot small cal rifles in the uk and kind of want to carry that over to my bow shooting .

Coming right along. To really tighten your groups my suggestion would be bareshaft tuning. Not fun on a Mathews, but extremely beneficial and would be a very informative video for a lot of your fans that are getting started.

This is a very good video. Do you plan to do another video more specific about setting up arrows? Getting the weights to be nearly identical is important for consistent arrow flight but there are some other factors that are also, if not more, important. First, the arrow needs to be perfectly straight from one end to the other. Carbon shafts are almost always perfectly straight (more expensive shafts have more consistent density (grains/inch) and spine) but the nocks on store-bought arrows are often not well aligned to the shaft so you might want to check that. You mentioned a squaring device to make sure that the insert is perfectly square to the shaft, which is even more important when shooting broadheads. Another factor for consistent arrow flight besides the correct spine is the spin. Arrows that have been fletched by the manufacturer are often straight fletched, which does not provide spin. Even if the fletching is helical, three 2.5" vanes do not provide much surface area to generate adequate spin. This is one of the reasons that four vane fletching is becoming increasingly popular. You mentioned FOC but not what you are targeting. Arrows with 14-16% (even up to 20%) usually fly more consistently, which is why you might find that 125gr points "fly better" than 100gr points. Rather than experimenting with different point weights and fletching configurations you can use FOC to inform and narrow those choices. Unfortunately many people focus on reducing the weight of the point to get more speed without understanding the impact to balance and flight.

Great video, Allie is so pretty. Her bottom cam is faster, did she check cam lean? i Saw that draw board and bow press. See how the arrows fishtail? Nock tuning is easy and will fix much of that funny arrow flight. Also if you feel the bow torque left or right, your fingers may be tight, let the front fingers relax. Nice work, you'll be slay'n em this season.
