Shooting the Fuji X100T in Saugatuck, Michigan

We spent some time with family this last weekend in Saugatuck, Michigan. Rachel and I decided to bring her Fuji X100T along and make pictures with it. And I thought it'd be a good time to make a video about this beautiful camera.

I use 2 Sony APS-C cameras. I usually carry with the a6500 with the 16-70mm lens mounted on it, and the a6000 with the telephoto 55-210mm. Always ready to go. I also have a set of primes for when the scene requires a faster lens or something more specific.

I use the tiny Sony RX100VA to record most of my videos, although I'll use the a6500 for some of them as needed. I record the audio with a lavalier mic connected to my phone.

I really struggled at the beginning with your inability to adapt or accept the changes needed for a different camera system but I warmed as it went on and most importantly I love your images. You have a wonderful eye for angles and composition, your processing is lovely. Stick to what you like and create. I am subscribing….

The X100 is actually a stellar camera for long exposures, since you can put on the 10 stop ND filter and still see the scene through the optical view finder.

That's true, but it depends on how close you are to the subject I guess. The actual composition will be slightly different.

Hola aows. buen video. una pregunta? es cierto que queda mejor el blanco y negro sin sacar mucho detalle en las sombras, vi un video Matt Day pero en ingles, y el usaba lightroom , pero dejaba encendido los avisos de cliping los rombos de las esquinas del histograma es decir sin detalle en las sombras, crees que sera para mantener el negro puro? .... y la fuji 100T El blanco y negro es muy bueno me parece que es una simulación de acros que opinas?.

No estoy seguro sobre la simulación de Acros, creo que eso lo llaman así en los nuevos modelos. Sobre los detalles en las sombras, no hay mejor ni peor, depende de lo que quieras crear. A mí me gusta así :)

S=Second T=Third F=Fourth. I had the T for a while, enjoyed it, but sold it and upgraded to an X-T3 recently.

Ha! Never thought about the meaning of the letters. So the next one will be... V? The X-T3 looks amazing, probably the camera I'd choose if I had to start photography all over again.

I will always love my original x100, it completely restarted my love for photography and I'd probably just be a sad gamer or movie nerd if I hadn't stumbled upon a used one by accident while shopping for printer ink. I don't really care much for it's shortcomings, I loved the design and vintage controls and I've had it with me pretty much everywhere I go for the last 6 years. And of course the very first thing I lost was that stupid silver ring, and I don't even own those conversion lenses... I was wondering if it was missing already when I bought it. Well, it doesn't do anything so who cares...

Hi adrian,I love the Camera, it has a nice square modus, that is important for me! But I sold it, to buy a interchangeble version (xe-3) and 3 nice small lenses (23.35.50).the newer cams have an Acros-B+W modus with 3 good grain opinions! The AF is also better.Looking at your nice Fotos,i think this is a good tool for you! Always enjoying your videos, regards,Bernd

Hola Adrián!! Yo tengo la X100, a secas, la primera, "The First", jajaja. Es una cámara muy diferente. No vale para todo el mundo, creo yo. O para la manera de fotografiar de la mayoría, para decirlo más correctamente. Ni para todo tipo de fotografía. Es una cámara que no sirve para la prisas, requiere de un uso más pausado. Dicen, que esta primera versión que yo tengo es la que produce unas fotografías menos digitales, con un resultado más parecido a la película... Nunca usé una versión posterior, ni la S, ni la T ni la F, así que no puedo decir que sea así o no. Yo la utilizo para algo de paisaje, con el converso de lente gran angular, cuando no quiero cargar con las réflex, para fotografía de calle, configurando el enfoque y la velocidad y profundidad de campo previamente con los parámetros que quiero y dejando que la cámara utilice el ISO automático para alcanzar la velocidad de obturación que le haya puesto, y para fotografía documental. Para mi, es una cámara que, como decía, no satisface a cualquiera, pero con el que lo consigue, lo enamora. Y conmigo lo ha conseguido, es una de mis cámaras de cabecera. Incluso la utilizaba cuando me dedicaba profesionalmente a la fotografía y hacía bodas, para las fotos en casa del novio, de la novia, y en las de pre y post boda. Es una cámara discreta y ligera para cuando quieres pasar desapercibido. Hay que saber adaptarse a ella. Pero, como te decía, enamora... Un abrazo!!

Es una cámara preciosa y una delicia de usar. Creo que estoy de acuerdo en todo lo que dices, depende del fotógrafo y lo fotografiado, pero cuando funciona, funciona bien.

The 50mm converter does not expose the sensor to dust when changing focal length. So it can be an advantage! May be?

What camera is used to shoot this video? It’s really clear and smooth. Is it the a6000 or a6500?

Es cosa de acostumbrarse a esa belleza de cámara .Tengo la hermana pequeña y encima en su primera versión ,y a pesar de ser un sensor más pequeño,poco adecuada para desenfoques,es muy divertida de usar ,la uso el 90 % de las veces en manual y si tengo dudas le hago un bracketing ,pero la mayoría me las clava ,e incluso uso la foto más oscura ,equivalente a ese -1 del anillo de compensación que usas tú .Y esa pequeña indefinición me parece muy analógica ,aunque a veces en bordes muy contrastados se le nota una linea ,corregible con software.En cuanto a esoS apliques para cambiar la focal no me convencen,al menos el que tengo yo ,para aumentar en apertura angular ,que me regalaron y terminó en un cajón ,creo que distorsiona y pueda hacer flare en contraluz . Cambiando de tema,dile a Rachel que tiene que salir más a menudo sin gafas,o comprarse unas que le tapen menos....

nice... I'm still using the X100.. its a gem.. but i think you will like the Ricoh GR much better (for b/w high contrast)..

The Ricoh is a very interesting camera as well, not sure about the focal length though (28mm). I think I'd rather go wider (24mm) or narrower (the 35mm of the X100). I'd love to try for a while though.
