I didn't have any Greco stuff before I watched your videos. I had been looking at them but I wasn't exactly sure what to look for and how the models worked. Your videos reaaaally helped me narrow down what I was looking for. I have bought several, given a couple to my Dad, and I still have my original 77' EG800. It rules :)

Thanks so much for the shout out, Rob! Your original vids taught me so much about how to buy from Japan + what to watch out for with Greco.

Hey Rob, really appreciate that sir! Fabulous, many thanks. Got a couple of pretty rare items being delivered soon. Both non catalog guitars. Will do an unboxing when they arrive (current delivery time from Japan via U.K. customs is a month at the moment). Great video, I love watching other people window shop as much as I love window shopping! Thanks again man 👍

Thanks for the walk through. It's perfect timing as I was just looking into whether to buy a Greco or perhaps Orville. So this is really useful. I don't think the Greco's are as much of a secret anymore as prices seem to be rising but do vary quite a bit by model/year. The Mid 80s Customs in black are gorgeous. Just need to find one in good condition at the right price.

Hey Rob, if you ever get a chance, take a look at the Yamaha studio lord guitars from the same 70s era. I just picked up an SL 500 built in 1979 and it is every bit as good as the Greco’s of the same era.

G'day Robert, great idea. I've got an SL rescue project starting as soon as I can get the guitar here from Japan.

Rob -- thanks for your Rockin' Shoppin' Greco video. I'm looking for a Les Paul Custom -- Black, Split diamond, Gold Hardware-- something in the range of EGC 800 or above from the Super Sound or Mint Series era. Do they come up for sale frequently? There's a rough one on Ebay US/Yahoo Japan for $1450/$1250 -- but I'd like one in better shape. Thanks.

I am looking at a 1985 egc 68-50. This like a custom but from what you say it is cnc made. Do you think the quality of these mint collection guitars are awesome still or 79-82 the best.

The Quality of the 68-XX and 58-XX and 59-XX are really good Especially if you want Custom Model Specs... id put them a bit above the typical mint collection ones. However for my tastes i would rate: 1 - 76-79 period 2 - 58-xx and above 3 - 83+ Mint collections

Great video! I was looking for a gibson lp alternative as my 70s lp is too valuable to take to gigs. Was let down by epis and gibson tributes. Im looking for a non weight reliefed lp w mahogany body, i can live w the maple necks as i have 2 lps (DC and CM) that rock! The 78 greco im watching on ebay seems nice they say its 9lbs so I assume no weight relief but the back is painted red so i cant tell it’s mahogany. Does greco used different woods at some point. I have read sycamore was used a lot by these manufacturers. Also how to know which one is chambered cause it kind of hard to ask that question to non english speaking sellers. Thanx

Anything greater than EG500 should get you into the solid body territory. To add most models were mahogany bodys yes, The sycamore have been used as tops in the past for models EG500 and Lower. : )

Would you recommend buying through reverb?
@TheYetti1
@TheYetti1 2 года назад
Absolutely..youll find USA sellers selling stuff as well. However the shipping costs in addition to taxes will deff get you at a higher "final" price if you're trying to stay at a budget.
