Hey Tin Man I had a question I was hoping you can answer are the Husqvarna 371 K saws the demo saws the same lower end as the 372 ? I don't know if that's the right saws but you know what I mean the demo saw and the chainsaw that came out together same year
@@tinmanssaws okay I was just looking at my collection of dead soldiers in the garage in various states of disassembly and I thought I swear those two have the same bottom end
WHen I was a kid I used to help my grandpa with building projects around the ranch. I wanted to impress him with my precise cuts with the handsaw. He'd get peeved because I was taking so long and say, "It's a barn not a danged piano!"
I still have my last 266 from 1983. Wore out a 262 between 1978 & '83 & the 266 replaced it, then in late '84 I suffered a back injury playing rugby, which ended my days cutting timber for a living. Dug the saw out today, as there's an oak log washed up on the shore (I'm in western England) & need to rip it to manageable pieces. Looks like I should get something useable, maybe enough for a table top.
No more ding-a-ding-ding when she idles. I’d like to see a vid of a Walbro carb retrofit from the stock Tilly carb. I have the same issue on an old Husky and would like to know how hard it is to change the carb over and what Walbro you can use.Your gratitude and open- minded approach to things are what makes you a great saw builder. What I wouldn’t give to hang out in the shop on a Friday night!
Hello. Long time listener 1st time caller. First off, I have rebuilt a few Stihl saws and have been wanting to put a Husky in my collection. I found a basket case 266se that the original owner had torn apart and I feel it’s too far gone for my skill level. It’s missing most of the nuts and bolts, the carb and head are also gone. I have everything else and the parts are in pretty good shape. The crank is rusted. The clutch is good as are the covers and cases. If you can use any of it , it’s yours. Thanks for your time.
I found a Husqvarna 51 chainsaw in the blackberry bushes at my house. It been there at least 3 years. Cleaned the pull rope spring. Changed the plug and put in fresh gas. Fired up after 5 pulls.
That's so cool. Bought my first 266 in 1983. I still have it. It Fed my family for years. I retired the old girl, but she still runs great. my favorite saw
Awesome! No more skipping chain it’s looking like 👍... yeah boy... the old one had a couple miles on here! 😂😂😂👍. Yeah the whole Christmas thing with everyone being on everyone else’s videos and sharing and supporting each other and then you guys all working to share the love and kindness and the coats on kids..,man I was reared up at one point... it’s definitely awesome that nick pixel is helping everyone with tech support and whatnot and this whole larger community is blooming!!! It’s definitely going to be one heck of a Buckin Stock or whatever where everyone is able to shoot the breeze and run saw’s! My 660 landed flat so it’s got a base gasket to have the squish... then I couldn’t find my screws so she’s rocking some Husqvarna bolts hear and there... I had to get it together so I can go get it tuned tomorrow! It’s going to be a great winter of saw building!!! I’m still thinking it’s a pipe idea for this echo 8000 that’s sitting here... I’d love a hot saw! 😂👍
Tin man I love your vidios! I'm glad you mentioned that you set up clutches to deal with faster idles.i would blue print them and balance them for racing applications on go-karts. Nice work buddy. Rick ohio
Holy smokes Tinman thank you buddy. Love it brother. Thanks for the tech tips on the clutch situation that can happen and the chain break trick. Keep em comin buddy. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
Tinmaaaaan, sounds like a good runner now. We share the same admiration for the 266se, strong and light. Many blessings to you and your family during the holiday season.. Keep on putting up the great content my Canadian brother.. SLANT'E.
I had a 1986 Husqvarna 266 xp with a silver tag from Tomos Slovenia given to me for free non-running off of Craigslist! Someone pinched the wire behind the pull starter and bared the wire shorting out the ignition and I cleaned out the carbourator and drilled a couple of holes in the exhaust pipe. It is a badness! I have a chainsaw collection of around 60 chainsaws, And I can only think of two others i own that even compare to the 266xp and that's my two Sachs-Dolmar 120 super saws! And I have guys ask to sell it to them every time I break it out and show it off because it sounds so frickin awesome at idle or when the throttle is pinned wide open 😜
Just came back to this video and boy how right you are. I think I completely trashed 2 cylinders and have messed up 3 others but was able to fix the mistakes. Had to throw a hand full of pistons away as well. It is very discouraging putting a hole in the impus line or the outside wall of a transfer. But when you take your time and not try to reinvent the wheel you will start nailing it. When that happens and you realize and start understanding the whole process it will become much more enjoyable and fun. Then your caught hook line and sinker. Thanks for everything have a great week Tinman
For everyone that doesn’t think helicoils are no good, all Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines have helicoils installed in every aluminum hole from the factory, to include pipe threads.
Fun stuff ! Im in the market for a 266se 1985 i bought a 234sg/se 1983 but i think i want an 266se also :-) good looking machines these older ones Its so Much METALL :-D regards Paul Roger -North Sweden
Love the rambles. We don’t mind if you say this stuff over and over. I Got the homelite 775g running. Good information is good information. Kindness and love
I picked up a 266se, because I needed a good backup saw. I haven't cut with it yet, but look forward to it. I wish you were closer, I have a lot of saws that I don't have running, and don't have time for right now. It would be fun to watch you work on them. I like your channel. Thanks
I use hydrochloric acid to dissolve all transferred aluminum off of the nikasil, cast iron, or chrome liners before measurement and inspection. That smeared on aluminum will mess up your hone.
Hope the holidays have been good to you and your family. What I love about your channel is it’s real. You aren’t flogging anything, you are just a solid Hoser doing your thing. Keep up the good work Bud!!
Never got into huskys. Way back when, I had a 455 rancher for a few months till it got stolen. May have to pick up a few xp models to tinker with. My Macs and Stihls may get jealous though lol. Have a wonderful new year and keep the videos coming!
For what it’s worth I saw Donny walker port a Mac on Buckins channel. He went for 155 degrees of intake and exhaust timing and didn’t touch any of the transfers.
Love the shop talk 👍 Nick’s channel is a must check out! Great guy, uplifting content! If anyone can make it run you can Tinman! Great video enjoyed it! Hope you and hour Family have a Happy New year!🎊Cannot wait till 2021 to see what the Tinman has to share...

It’s always nice seeing ppl helping other ppl!! It just brings joy to everyone!! Take care everyone and cya soon again Tinman!!
Wishing you a Merry Christmas is a small thank you for the awesome content you o put out Tinman..I have small engine experience but have never done much more than a carb rebuild when possible, I appreciate the way you take time and try to explain how to do things !
I seen this vid today. I have been doing a little saw work and posting on Instagram. Just so happens it was on putting a clutch drum on Husky 40. I thought wow what a coincidence.
Cool video Tinman! Hopefully that clutch does the job so you can get back to running the old 266. I have a 266xp and it's been one of the best saws I've owned. Keep up the great work 👍👍💪💪😁!
Must of missed my comment on making gasket video, would like to send you a stockpile of gasket material 👍, love the channel, keep up the good work, am a 365 special owner 🤪
THIS IS GREAT ALL THESE NEW CHANNELS ARE AWESOME ,ALL THE BEST FOR 2021 TINMAN ,HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT NEWYEARS ,GREAT VIDEO BUDDY BE SAFE ,I JUST FINISHED WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBING TO TAZMANS CHANNEL
Let me start with wishing you and your family a happy New Year! Because of this channel I now have two 266se's but both are giving me trouble. They idle, but when you give some throttle they die. They did ran at one point. So I tried adjusting the carb, but no luck. Any thoughts? I also have a clutch that goes kling-kling-kling but I thought that was pretty normal. Now looking at this video it could mean my clutch is bad and I need to do something about it🤔 Could that also be the reason they will not idle?
Hi - another great video. I am learning more and more about these saws as I go. Having inherited a 266xp from my late father I am somewhat obsessed with keeping her running! I blew her up a while back and had to replace the top end and that got me into this crazy game! Now I tinker away (and bought a 268xp for good measure!) One thing I noticed on the 266 is that the drive sprocket has a lot of play and although I have not got into it yet, it looks like the washer (yellowish) has broken up...would this be causing the sprocket to wobble about? I guess once I get in there I will see what the issue is, but at first glance that washer looks shot.
Will the clutch, clutchdrum and the clutchcover/chainbrake fit a HVA55? Rebuilding a 55 with closed port and would like a larger rimsprocket than the original 19mm inner diameter. 266 --> 55?
Hey tinman I was wondering if u could give me some advice the clutch nut is rubbing my clutch cover on my 272 there is a washer behind oil pump gear if I take the washer out it dosen't rub but I'm assuming the washer needs to be there so I'm just wondering what the wizard suggests lol
I had a saw that did that. The crank was offset too far out to the right (clutch side). I had to push the crank over quite a bit yo center it and then it never rubbed again.
