Dont forget that bleaching the wood and then applying a stain or clear coat is also an option. It will lighten the wood up for you.

my house that i just bought was built in the year 1900, so ten years older than yours, has the exact same trim around the windows and everything. must’ve been the thing back then. so decorative and pretty. i didn’t love it when i bought the house. now that my house is all beautiful thanks to a lot of your inspo, the old architecture makes it original. you recommended mocha cream by benjamin moore a while ago in one of your videos and i painted all my decor and based my house around that color. i don’t comment much, but your videos have impacted my life and made me finally love the home i’m in. it’s been 7 months since i’ve been here and i’m still working but slowly getting there! thanks macenna for all your help!!❤️❤️

You described “what you’re made of” exactly how i think many of your followers would have described you. I have stage 4 cancer and every surgery/procedure/radiation I have had, I have gone in to them reciting power/strength/encouraging affirmations. It’s been 12 years and I’m still going...bent but not broken. Good for you. I love your channels.

The grain looks like our old house that was Douglas Fir. We just sanded and used a clear, non-yellowing poly and no stain. They were beautiful! Definitely keeping the floors lighter is the way to go! A very subtle White washing would also look great!

We have oak everywhere, cabinets and railings etc., but when we redid the floors we installed maple in a light colour, since it was so hard to match oak. It is easy, never looks grubby or shows dirt, and about 12 years later still looks great. Has a few scratches with visiting dogs and a cat but nothing worth worrying about. No trouble to fix up when we want to. Lighter floors are best. Just think of lint on black clothes and you get the idea! Bravo Mom and Dad in buying the property with donkey neighbours. 👍😊

@@danidani000 excuse me, I’m not a native English speaker. What’s the difference between “master” and “primary”? Does “primary” sound more grammatically correct for you?

@@chiara8199 no worries! So the term “master bedroom” was started a few decades ago to my understanding, and was used to describe the biggest bedroom in the house, similar to old plantations. Plantations were a style of farming that used slave labor. So the term “master bedroom” is seen as a little out of date, and not actually accurate anymore!

They did not have master bathrooms 200 years ago. They used chamber pots. The master bathroom or bedroom has nothing to do with slavery🤔🤔🤔

I have a house from the 20’s with the exact same trim and it’s BEAUTIFUL! Before moving in I ripped up the carpet and had those pine floors refinished, and I believe the guy just used his big sander and did 2 coats of a clear poly or something similar. Now they’re a little lighter than the trim and more orangey and everyone always comments on how beautiful they are!

Lighter flooring is the way to go. I went from light to dark and it shrunk my little kitchen so much. Good luck on your search for the perfect light tone stain. I looooove the bathroom chevron pattern (and colors)that is the inspiration for your bathroom! So good!!

I have done all this renovating over the years and it is quite an undertaking. So glad you did not move the house. You will be happy. Besides...just turn the back of the house into the front. There ya go!
