This video of Qigong for low back pain is short and to the point.
Lower Back Pain affects millions of people, and is largely due to excess sitting and repetitive motion, although can also be caused by tension held after physical or emotional trauma. In this gentle mind/body exercise routine, we release patterns of energy held in the muscles and fascia to release the constriction and tightness that so often are the underlying cause of chronic pain. These bioenergetic exercises, or Qigong, use breathing exercises combined with stretching, twisting, and flowing movements to create a moving meditation that heals body and mind. This is the best low back exercise I've ever tried. It takes me from being sore and stiff to way less pain and freedom of movement. My pain has been chronic for many years, I'm 72. I love all your videos. They are life changing. Qigong is for me for the rest of my life. It just helps everything!

I know this has been up for several years, but I never commented on the quintessential nature of this particular routine. Amid Nick's impressive oeuvre of videos, this one stands apart as absolutely PERFECT for the myriad of middle aged and older men (not to exclude younger folks or women) who live with an increasingly stiff and spasm-prone lower back (offered by "Geoff" even though it's on "Marcia's" account).

This is such a valuable routine. I have just returned to it having strained my back through over-working it in an awkward position. I was suffering such acute stabs of pain I felt immobilised with the anxiety of causing more damage. This routine with its finely judged movements and level of challenge, has set the qi flowing again. I will return regularly to ensure the healing continues. Many thanks Nick!

I’ve been here before and indeed, lower back pain has been pacified, if this makes sense. Being chronic, it generally returns - especially after lifting something. Being cautious or limiting weights may or may not help me avoid the risk of the pain returning. Not lifting anything isn’t an option- a shopping bag can’t walk around by itself 😊. So, how to strengthen the lower back? Mind you, I am in my seventies. Cheers and thank you for your classes, Nick.

I know, I know, it takes years- BUT the difference I felt doing the hip circles at the beginning of the exercise vs doing the hip circles at the end was shocking. This short 15 minutes alone gave me relief.Thanks so much for this.

Thank you for your selfless and generous videos, Nick. I am learning so much from you and love your teaching style. You take great care in demonstrating each movement from different angles and describing everything in easily understandable language. As a health and fitness enthusiast for most of my life, I have been battling anxiety and depression related to premature physical aging and my inability to continue doing many of the rigorous activities that used to keep me in shape both physically and mentally. Apart from giving me relief in my lower back I also tend to understand and appreciate what you call 'the more meditative' part of Qigong a lot more. (Been doing it for years) I find it amazing that the combination of breath, mental focus and physical exercise can do, whereas I was brought up with the idea it's all a matter of muscle and exercise. Great video!

I have started to practise qui gong exercises in the recent months,today feeling block in the lower left side I tried this sequence and I was amazed because at one point I started crying, I let the tears go, I hope I will let go all the stress of this period...Thank you...Namaste🙏

This did surprise me with how much this did work, after wrenching my back & awakening the next AM with plenty of pain. This shows how much the breath work can actually affect & help the condition!

I was seized up at the beginning but had quite a lot of relief from these qi gong movements. I also appreciate so much your commentary on how these movements affect muscles and energy. It's great to see how others are benefitting too! I'll do the longer version this evening. Thanks again!

This is such a great routine. The ques are so powerful and impactful to help me get the most from this practice. I find that I get more out of these movements as my form gets stronger each time I do this. I wake up in the night with a tight lower back and do these moves to calm and relax. Thank you!

I am having terrible pain in my lower and upper back. I am suffering with fibromyalgia. And I'm in a period with a lot of pain. Fysio said no exercise. That didn't feel good at all. Yoga is too much,so I searched through your videos. This one helps me to get in motion today. 💞🙏🏻

Great to hear it is helping your back recover! I live in Santa Cruz, California - a surf town just outside Silicon Valley. This one was filmed at a local spot called Nisene Marks State Park. Others are filmed up and down the coast on the cliffs and beaches around Santa Cruz, or in another redwood park called Henry Cowell Redwood State Park. Then I have a half dozen or so I filmed in Idaho in the Sawtooth Mountains and along the Payette River. If you ever have any secret beautiful spots you think would make great backdrops I'm always happy to hear about them ;)

I enjoy all your practises. Just did the work out on the beach with kicks,then continued with this lower back practice.Feel great. I enjoy the longer practises, do you have any suggestions to stop itching.My scalp + my back are always itchy in spite of moisture creams, essential oils.Thanks

I have had chronic back pain for a couple of years. I am getting better through movement. When i woke up this morning my back was niggling me. I tried this and feel a lot better now. Thank you. It seems like very light exercise but somehow it works. I would do this daily but not sure whether it will help strengthen my core because that’s what my physio said I need to do. What is the Qigong take on this?
