Such a great 80’s comedy. Dabney was an amazing actor and this car chase was surprisingly good. Just one if those flicks that you gotta watch every so often imo
Goodamnit, I laugh myself stupid every time I see this clip...the movie was good but the car chase was/is THE BEST! Right up there with the Blues Brothers car chases. F**king classic!!!
They didn't. They had 10 of the same make, model and color. Just like many 70's, 80's & 90's movies had involving car crashes. Back then the pedophiles knew how to make great entertainment for Sheeppeople. *DO your own research, stop being Sheeppeople.
+eldo59 Hell yeah. From 2002-2009 I had an '86 M Body like that, best car ever. 1940's technology with 80's reliability, nothing fancy. Started out with 140bhp stock and after a little work less than $1000 (4bbl, intake, elec. ignition, headers, 10.5" rear diff) almost 250bhp. I love this video.
true that. back around summer of 1998 to august 1999 my parents had a 1985 diplomat just like this red one in gold. it got wrecked on the drivers side and pushed the piller in and such but still ran and drove fine. drove it till we found a replacement 5th ave 1987. had the 5th ave till the trans screwed up and such and got rid of it or stopped driving it the night of christmas eve 1999. then got a 1990 new yorker
@@rmx77 I have an 87 Diplomat police package all original except edelbrock carb, and a better exhaust (still single but bigger pipe, flowmaster muffler, and free flowing cat. One of the best handling, running cars I've ever had for the money
In the chase Burt Simpson's car starts off as a 1984 Dodge Diplomat then at 2:46 it becomes a 1982 Plymouth Caravelle to the end of the chase . The bad guy's car is a 1976 Pontiac Catalina with Custom Trim Package .
@@boilerhousegarage yes its a V8 because the hood is blown off by the bad guys rifle and it not a slant six the air cleaner is in the center of the engine block while slant sixes have it on the drivers side of the engine its a 318 i think has a 727 transmission since its a police car as well .
OMG! I recognize all the scenes this being filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada right by BC Place Stadium and various parts of East Vancouver and on Front Street in New Westminster! They even have the Drake Towing signs all visible everywhere! This is hilarious! V
Always loved this movie, the premise was great. Really good to see Max Headroom in a supporting role. This chase scene was one of the best and funniest I have ever seen. Have always loved Dabney Coleman and Teri Garr just got hotter as she aged.
The distinctive blue color on the underside of Burt's hood when it flies up (especially visible at 3:00) indicates that the car they used is most likely a retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police marked unit.
For newcomers here, doubt there'll be many though unfortunately, but here you go: Bert's acting suicidal because well... He was kinda trying to get himself killed in the line of duty. He was falsely diagnosed with a fake disease which would kill him in 2 weeks, and he'd get 350k for his kid who was young and needed the money to go to college and uni but ONLY if he died in the line of duty, so he went out of his way to not only catch these guys but to also get himself killed. Luckily he didn't, and also he survived in the end of the movie :P
IF THE MOVIE WAS FILMED IN CANADA, WOULDN'T THE PONTIAC BE A PARISIENNE (CATALINA WASN'T SOLD OUTSIDE THE U.S), BEING CHASED BY A PLYMOUTH CARAVELLE SALON, (GRAN FURY IN THE U.S)
Funny enough, the red cop car actually switches from a Dodge to a Plymouth when the hood is shot off by the bad guys. Looks like the main undamaged hero car may have been a real Diplomat, while the one that gets damaged is likely an ex-RCMP Caravelle. The blue paint on the inside of the hood certainly suggests that too.
You can see it momentarily when at 01:55 the motorway signage says "North Delta , New Westminster" and "Knight Street , Vancouver" from left to right respectively.
You can also make out Pacific Blvd. with BC Place in the background, as well as Drake Street except it looks a lot different without the apartment buildings and tower-blocks that have filled everything in these days.
The old pops really had what it takes to get' em. He probably triggered the Mustache Power to do this. Old school stunt drivers really had some balls to do those scenes.
