Thanks for the feedback. I agree, just wanted to let folks know of the options especially for those who live in an apartment or perhaps have others in the house. Like you I lean toward my AR first, AK, then shotgun with buckshot. However, I live in an area where I don't have to worry about over penetration. Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective!
These barrels are not "rifled" meaning there are no groves to spin the projectile. The slugs actually have the rifling on them so shooting shot has not be an issue. I do clean my guns which is important. You can certainly buy a tactical barrel for this purpose if you want as well. Thanks for watching!
What are you looking to accomplish in the class? I am a trainer and do training for pistols carbines and shotguns. Please let me know what you are interested in specifically and I will do my best to help.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard on a RU-vid gun channel was somebody (can't remember who) pointing out that the shot leaves the 20's barrel at exactly the same speed as the shot from a 12. Even if you are bloke worth thinking that less shot in the air may contribute to safety of loved ones too.
So you are shooting mostly buck and bird shot out of your pump using a slug barrel? Is that not bad for the rifling? I ask because I have a 28" mossberg 930 that came with a slug barrel and i was going to buy a short tactical barrel to avoid dinking it up.
I'm not a fan of birdshot for self defense. It may deter the attacker, but a determined attacker will probably not be deterred. I prefer buck, or even an AR15 for that matter. Whatever works best for you though.
I have Mossberg 590 A1. Not a better weapon for home defense made. Let whoever is in your house try grabbing the barrel of your gun when you searching room to room. They might just get a handful of an M7 Bayonet. Their loss!
+Holly Nites Grabbing a bayonet isn't that big of a deal. They usually are not, and shouldn't be, sharp. Not that they would know that, so they might just avoid grabbing it by simply assuming that it's sharp.
Interesting the difference in cultures, in Australia, it is illegal to have both gun and ammunition together, ammunition must be kept locked in a separate safe to a gun
