If you would like to see why I think Belle doesn't have Stockholm Syndrome here is my video on that very topics: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gx6GEvhXAGI.html I think this only further supports the idea the Beast was the better choice for Belle!
Gaston wanted a trophy to put on display, like the animals he would kill. A good way to notice why Beast was the right choice is how they react to Belle's love of reading. While gaston mocked and made misogynistic comments towards her, Beast gave her a library and loved listening to her read.
@@mrbojangles9841 Possible but there is no real evidence to suggest it in the movie. And he does seem pretty selfish, arrogant and controlling, besided wanting your partner to be stupid thats a pretty bad warning sign in my opinion. Either way you cant really give everyone a chance when it comes to romatnic relationships, thats called cheating
@@mrbojangles9841 I still disagree from what I have seen in the movie. Which qualities are you referring to when you say he'd make a great father and husband? What about the part where he literally wants her to be stupid and ignorant and not follow what is basically her greatest passion? Because I think that matters. Is he gonna throw that away like beast did with his abusive side or is it something that may continue? How is he normally gonna react when they have disagrements in their relationship, as all relationships have? I get the impression that his kindness would be only when he gets it as he wants, and quite possibly turn to outright abusive otherwise (at best only verbally abusive) and that doesnt make him a very good match with Belle or good partner at all. The only thing is there is a slight chance he would change like the beast, but no real evidence to prove it.
@@mrbojangles9841 if you do that alternate version you are missing the real meaning and message of the storie, your version is teaching that the handsome man is the right one....Beauty and the Beast teach us not to judge people immediately, many people is a little agressive like the beast was, but when you meet them you realize they have a softer side. How many people are handsome and charismatic like Gaston , but internally they are evil and even some potential killers.
I’m pretty sure in the broadway musical, Gaston tells the triplets at one point that just because he was with Belle doesn’t mean he end being with them.
Yeah there's no way he wouldn't cheat on her! And she wouldn't be allowed to divorce him or cheat on him. However, historically men were encouraged to actually take out their sexual desires on prostitutes because according to the church, making love without the intent of having children was a sin... but that still doesn't make it right. Thank goodness that's not still a thing. I'm so glad Belle ended up with the Beast.
Gaston doesn’t love belle, he loves the idea of her, which is why he treats her as an object to win. The beast loves Belle, which is why he chooses to let her go and understands her decision, even though it is hard. The Beast respects Belle. Gaston doesn’t.
Let's not forget Gaston only loves belle only for her beauty and if they did get married he would treat her like a slave but the beast loves her for who she is not for what she looks like
Since Belle rejected Gaston, I wonder who was dumb enough to love him, and give him a son after he’s brought back to life and banish to The Isle of the Lost in the Descendants story.
I can't believe people are making a argument for Gaston. Belle definitely made the right choice and if that wasn't clear in the animated version it was in the live-action version Gaston literally threatened to kill Belle's father, where's the Beast was willing to let her go even if it meant not breaking the curse. 🌹
@@IsaacCarlson Isaac, the "Neo-Gastonist" movement is made with men who lack self-confidence at their core. They have so very little self esteem yet so much ego....
I saw worse than gaston frollo princes charming Roland lyle George in Jungle and Chuck dorniges röschen Geschichten aus der Gruft They were more worse than gaston so😂😂😂😂😂😂
But gaston is not a royal just before the French Revolution So belle essentially chose to be decapitaded Otherwise beast is definitely better for her in every other way
Yep, as TVTropes points out on their fridge horror page for this movie, what if Belle had had only one child, and it was a girl? Or what if she had had only one son, and he resembled his mother in attitude? Gaston could very easily become domestically abusive and child abusive as well.
Belle choose the Beast for a reason. Yes, he did start out mean, but after he saved her life and Belle gave him genuine kindness, the Beast ended up not only kinder to Belle, but also gave her an entire library filled with books because he knows they are Belle's favorite thing. Meanwhile, Gaston not only tosses Belle's favorite book in the mud, he said to her face "It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas and thinking" which is extremely sexist. Also, Gaston gets a lot worse as the movie goes on. I get why some people don't like the Beast, but in the end it was Belle's choice, and I think she choose right.🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I know I'm a year late for this and I'm really sorry ... But it's *sexist not "sexiest" I just don't want people to get the wrong idea. And I'm not being a grammar/spelling Nazi. Great input btw.
don't forget how he openly mocks Belle's father, yet acts surprise when Belle rejected him again while he literally tried to throw her father in a loony house (which back then, the mental asylums are NOT like today, and would have been a death sentence. but slow and painful)
@@angelfairy1875 eh I don’t think that’d stop him honestly. We’ve already seen how he gets when he doesn’t get his way, imagine in his marriage Belle denied him something I could easily see him hitting her.
Why does the beast get redemption but Gaston doesn't? Weird. Belle kept trying to fix the beast/correct his behavior but made no effort to do the same for her associate Gaston.... Hmmm
What people missed in this story is the “Redemption” that even if you were once a selfish and self centred person, we still have a heart. We still deserve second chances & acceptance what we are in the past but also the possibility of what we can be in the future!
Yes, Belle should’ve stayed with the beast. Gaston is a jerk and not suitable for Belle. Here’s why -He’s manipulative -He’s egoistical -Never takes Belle’s dreams into consideration -He forces Belle to marry him -He’s controlling -He threatened to throw Belle’s father into a mental asylum -He tries to kill the beast -He would never have let Belle read or be herself I agree with all the points you made in the video because everyone is blind to see that Gaston is not the right man for Belle.
I'm totally on team beast. Gaston intention was obvious and clear from the beginning... quote he said "it's true lafoe n I got my sight on that one" "she is the one, the lucky girl I'm going to marry, the most beautiful girl in town, that makes her the best and don't I deserve the best." He was after belle for a trophy wife. And we all know how that ends even if the beast wasn't in the picture . Of course Gaston other negative traits seem to grow till the end of the story which led him to his demise. I think we shouldn't analyse Gaston character based on superficial love conduct like being possessive over a lady character as good or normal, true love comes when the heat of attraction and romance are over, this is where you can look at someone and still love the person's both short comings and good traits and above all have respect for one another. I appreciate how Isaac has explained well on how the two male characters' traits and personality expanded throughout the course of the tale. Disney has truly put in a lot of thought in not only the quality of the story but also the values that each characters possess. That's why this story is a tale as old as time but we can still find relevance and appreciate it till today🌹🌹 Isaac can you please make videos on supporting Disney characters and how they impact the story and main character. e.g Flounder and Sebastian in the little mermaid.
I’m so happy that you said at the end how Stockholm syndrome doesn’t play a factor into their story. Yes, she was trapped, but that was her choice. She was saving her father. And she rebelled and talked back. Someone that was falling for their captor wouldn’t act how Belle acted. Just like how you stat, she falls for him once he starts to change, because he starts to see how caring of a person she is. He def falls first, and she follows. And she makes her own choice to come back because she wants to protect him. I truly dislike when people say that it’s SS, when it’s so clearly not. So happy to see you think the same way 👌🏻. Also; I don’t see how people like Gaston more for her. He’s def abusive, the whole time. He doesn’t have a turning point to become a better man. He could’ve, but he just kept basically taking her “no” for “not yet”. And he threatened her dad, her only family, whom she clearly loves. Like, boy bye! 😂
@@latioswarshowdown1202 the beast didn't manipulate her in any situation. When she first became trapped, both the beast and her father were telling her to leave, none of them suggested she take her father's place. She only took his place against her own father's wishes so that he could see a doctor, he was sick remember? The next time she had an opportunity to leave she came back willingly so she could tend to the beast's wounds. The most the beast did was try to have dinner with her and threw a bunch of tantrums when she rejected him. The beast didn't even consider her as a potential partner until his servants suggested courting her and also suggested he put her in an actual room.
@@Nu_Wen Lumiere suggested to the Beast, he decided to give her a room when she was crying for her father , that face of feeling guilty was priceless and showed from the beginning he wasn't a total bad guy
The words of Jasmine from Aladdin👳🐒🧞♂️: I'm not a prize to be won! Fits how Gaston saw Belle, too. He saw her as a trophy. Beast and Belle are a perfect match. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
i have two counter arguments for you: 1. Gaston treated Belle like his hunting trophies. He wanted her as a trophy wife. (not much to think about) 2. the Beauty and the Beast extras on DVD: Don Hahn mentions that Gaston is the complete opposite of the Beast. Beast: Ugly outside, beautiful inside. Gaston: Beautiful outside, ugly inside
Or gift of inventive ability either. Like how in the live action, she kinda made a makeshift washing machine using the village fountain or whatever it was, a barrel, and a donkey. While trying to teach a younger girl to read (which she willingly participated in trying to learn), the villagers threw her laundry on the ground.
The thing about how Belle and the Beast differs from her and Gaston is that Belle and the beast first found respect for each other and then had a healthy relationship and that's when they grew feelings for each other. Gaston never had respect for Belle and that is why they could never have a healthy relationship. The beast was selfless and put Belle's needs before his when he is about to stay as beast forever and that is one of the reasons why I stan him and his relationship with Belle. Gaston only thought about his needs and also he was a hunter and competitor so that is why Gaston treated her like something to win or chase after.
Yes! Great to see someone saying this! I think the whole idea of supporting Gaston comes mostly from a common fallacy of people who want to pretend being smart: that it would be better to be original than be right. Which is just one of the travesties of critical thinking. There's a huge difference between pathological, incurable narcissist and a depressed, short-tempered person who's acting out. Yes, they're both easier to handle when other people allow them to have their way, but the 1st one absolutely cannot stand the idea of allowing someone to oppose them. I'm 100% sure that Gaston didn't love Belle. Love is a commitment, that includes caring, and wanting to be with someone for what he/she is. Gaston shows no regard for Belles feelings or interests, and doesn't care how she ends up, as long as she's his. He just wanted a trophy wife to take care of his own needs, and chose for Belle for her looks, and for the fact that she doesn't show any interest on him, making Gaston a kid who insists having that one toy he cannot have. Yes, the Beast also was furious when Belle acted against him. But as you said, that's only how it started. He was a person in a bad place, ready to change. It started with one choice of doing the right thing by saving Belle, and continued by him finding the humanity inside himself and actually wanting to know her as a person. Even when Beauty and the Beast still isn't in my top 10 Disney films, I'll always appreciate how Belle made the Beast wanting to become the best version of himself.
i agree with you watso, yes the beast was mean and cruel because like the enchantress said he had no love in his heart. when belle was with him, he tried to order her around like a servant but she refused him and did what she wanted. whether it was going to the west wing, leaving because he frightened her, or trying to bring christmas back, belle was true to herself. once she saw him changing and how gentle and kind he was that is the person belle loved. a person willing to not only protect her but wanting her to be herself. gaston just wanted a pretty, obedient woman to be his slave basically, and that is not who belle was. so yeah i think belle made the right choice, great video watso
No i think Belle made the right choice in choosing Beast or (Adam) as he sometimes known because Yes Beast was a rude, ferocious and cruel at first but i like to think Beast was only like that because grew up not knowing how to treat others with respect and with kindness and also he was possibly away from people for years or decades so he was a recluse but with Belles help and love he learnt kindness and to love in return, Gaston showed no urge to change or be a better person and only cared about himself and he only saw belle as a object and trophy to own, but that's just my opinion
I agree with you on that. Because the beast grew up not knowing how to treat others with respect and love in return all on account of his father treating him the same way he's treating others especially after his mom died
Yeah, Mrs. Potts told Belle that his father was to blame for the way he had become in the live action movie. I also think maybe his mother's death also could have played a role. His mother was kind to him and probably his only source of parental love.
yeah according so some theories he was only like 11 or something when that witch cursed him wich would mean he grew up isolated from others and even if it isint the case he still was isolated for quite awhile wich would make anyone moody
Now that you've mentioned it, I think Belle and the Beast are in love because, he truly loved her. Gaston did not truly love her at all, he only cared about himself.
Wtf?! Since when did people hated on the Beast? Come on people Gaston was a horrible person! Why the hell did you all think Belle had no interest in him?
@@IsaacCarlson there is a movement where narcissism is becoming more attractive, like how some people deem Kuzco as best Disney princess. Society's obsession with independence and individuality has driven some people to believe narcissism as the ideal goal. 🤔
Kuzco is best princess because he’s fabulous, not because he’s a narcissistic arse xD (I personally like his level of sass and sarcasm, which is retained after he sees the error in his ways at the beginning of the movie :P but perhaps that’s just me).
Love is letting go, when they want to be free. And hoping they will come back to you. But excepting it with a bitter sweet smile if they don’t. The beast was the true man, and Gaston proved that behind the face of a man was a true beast.
🌹 That's the whole point of those characters. Gaston is hansom on the "outside" but ugly and (dare I say) "Gastly" on the "inside". (Pun intended) Where as the Beast is ugly on the outside but becomes kind, gentle and beautiful on the "inside" (and later the outside too).
Finally, someone expresses the truth. I am for Belle and Beast. I have seen pictures of people trying to pair Gaston with Belle, probably in an attempt at redemption, but Gaston lost his chance when he locked Belle and Maurice in their basement and journeyed to the castle to kill Beast.
Technically Belle wasn’t kidnapped or capture by the Beast, she willfully decided to go with him and traded places with her father, she technically couldn’t be classified as having Stockholm Syndrome.
@@rosestar1324 Actually, she could have left when the beast fell protecting her, but she CHOSE to go back, so it doesn't count as that, cause she fell in love AFTER she had the chance to escape.
I agree with you. Beast changed for Belle; Gaston did not. Beast accepted Belle for who she is; Gaston did not. And in the end, it was Beast who earned Belle's love. They're one of my favorite Disney pairs because of their story and their transition to how they end up together. They're OTP and that's that!
No I Don't Think So Besides I Think Gaston Would Make A Very Handsome Throw Rug And Just Think Whenever He Gets Dirty Belle Will Take Him Out And Beat Him!
Think about Belle as a character - independent -strong willed - adventurous It is consistently shows Gaston wanted a typical girl. He never knew Belle and taunted her hobbies However the beast embraces and helps Belle fulfill her hobbies. Unlike Gaston he didn't want his own version of Belle. He just wanted her as she was, smart, adventurous, and independent
How is Bell adventurous? All she did was sing that she wanted more than "this provincial life" before her father was captured by the beast. And staying in place of her father, who was old and dying mind u is just plain foolish and dumb. And not a day later she breaks her promise not leave by running into a snow storm. The beast getting getting angry is totaly understandable. She clearly went to a place that was off limits and touched what should not have been touched. And the audacity of her to run off like it was his fault...like girl wtf?
Thank you for making this! 🌹🌹🌹 I get pretty annoyed when people insist that the Beast is abusive and that Gaston was a better choice. One of the main reasons why I love the Beast character so much is because he's a great example of redemption and that it's never late to become a better person, which I think is something that should be encouraged! :D
All arguments aside, Belle didn’t love Gaston. Belle didn’t have feelings for him and she definitely wouldn’t have been happy with him as he constantly criticized her. Belle’s feelings about the two of them are the most important because she is the one in the relationship.
The beast wanted Belle to be herself and that's why he gave her the library, where as Gaston kept on putting her down at every opportunity and teasing her father. The beast is a better fit. 🥀🥀🌷🌷⚘⚘🥀🥀🌷🌷⚘⚘
This is the first time I’ve heard of this argument against the Beast, and I find it to be very flawed indeed. It’s very obvious from the beginning that Gaston was not the right person for Belle. Yes, the Beast started out as a jerk, but as the movie went on, he learned to be more selfless and caring, and even loved Bell. Gaston on the other hand saw Belle as an object to be desired. Also, how can anyone overlook the scene where Belle thanked the Beast for saving her life from the wolves? I see that moment as the starting point of their relationship.
Me too. Evaluating each actions toward Belle. Who in the end changed and accepted Belle as herself? Beast, who wanted Belle to change to fit their needs? Gaston. You can't force people to change, they must willingly choose to do so and Beast did. Gaston in the film barely paid attention to anything she said and never truly knew how Belle though of him until she called him a monster.
I think people who consider Gaston the right choice for Belle entirely missed the point of the movie: not always people are how they appear. So Gaston, despite being shown by everyone as an attractive popular and respectable young man is a monster on the inside. All the argomentations in his favour are based just on the surface and on the superficiality in the judgments that this film teaches us to avoid.
I don't understand why there have been so many 'Belle should have married Gaston' video's lately; Gaston thought of Belle as a trophy he didn't love her.
I've never considered how it would be if Belle married Gaston.... I still don't think Baston (Belle x Gaston) was meant to be. I think that Gaston has a *bit* of an ego problem, and he kinda just wanted to *make* Belle marry him because she's beautiful. Not for her personality
NOOOO GASTON IS A JERK THE BEAST WAS PERFECT FOR BELLE!! they had so much in common like they both like to read and he gave belle a HUGE liberary i mean she couldnt of asked for a better guy?? i mean who gives you a libary??
I totally agree with you. Belle did make the right choice. Plus before she meets the beast and his world, she made a wish to have more than the norm of life was to offer her. She wanted love , adventure and mystery. To sum it all up in those 3 words .Belle is one of my top favorite princesses.
In the MOVIE, Gaston looked at Belle as a conquest. He didn't love her the way WE look at love, he just desired her because she was the one woman he couldn't have right away. He's more of a Mortimer Mouse than a Mickey Mouse. He sees women as property, not people. He even sings a song detailing this in the musical! However, that does NOT mean he shouldn't have changed too!
This is actually shown by the colours they wear. The Beast and Gaston wear red at the start, but as the Beast grows a a person, his cape switches to blue and then he wears a blue suit. This shows that the beast is willing to grow and change for Belle, while Gaston wants Belle to be the to change.
🌹💕🥀 Belle and Beast (or Prince Adam) are a great pair for each other. All the points you made are the reasons why Belle has been and probably always will be my favorite Disney princess. She wasn't brainwashed by Gaston's manliness and looks. And questioned and called him out on what he said and thought and the townspeople STILL loved him.
John Doyle's analysis is nothing compared to Fodero's. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tdDozgFr25w.html Behold! 'Tis the PEAK of Neo-Gastonism: framing Gaston as a tragic victim of societal encouragement and lack of honesty from Belle, solely with what the movie shows us, in half the time it took John Doyle to say it.
Between Gaston, the Beast (Prince) or being alone... here's what I would pick. First, I choose myself (Belle has dreams that will never come true if she pick either one). Second, Gaston... yeah, yeah he's a jerk (arrogant, etc.,) but most of the people in town are jerks (not to many options there). Lastly, the Prince yeah he has a library but she will be trading one lonely existence with another lonely existence. A golden cage is a cage.
+Wotso Videos Good video, Isaac. Belle and Beast are perfect for each other. Belle would never love a selfish and sadistic monster/villain like Gaston. When Belle and Beats connect, Belle can really see the kindness beneath the Beast's exterior. I think that's kind of a power Belle has, to see the good beneath someone who was selfish and unkind and helping them to redeem themselves. The message/moral in Beauty and the Beast is really important to live by, "True beauty is found and comes from within".
Maybe since people apparently don't know how to pay attention to certain songs and scenes, analyze "Something there" ? I do have to say thank you so much for covering this, i have hated how people are on about this whole Gaston > Adam thing.
I kind of enjoy the idea of Belle wandering across France as an acclaimed inventor and scholar without being married to either of them, but Beast is definitely the better of the two. They both have their selfish motives regarding Belle (Gaston sees her as a prize and a challenge because she’s the only woman in town who isn’t awestruck by him, while Beast wants her in order to break his curse), and while Gaston only further spirals in his desires, Beast breaks past them to see Belle’s desires as well.
No... one Twerks like Gaston Makes it work like Gaston No one drops down day booty And works it Gaston. Edit: I can’t take credit for this. I don’t know who made it.
I prefer Beast than Gaston. Belle wants someone who understands her and don‘t complaint about her „strange“ being. Beast had learn it, that he can‘t forced her to love him, so he tried to make her happy to stay in castle. But than Beast understands, that Belle wants back to his father (because he‘s in danger). His big personal development is to let her free, even he knows, that the last Roses petal is dangerously to fall. He learned to love and care other people.
You do realize that Gaston was basically trying to rape Belle right. I mean he tried to force himself on her multiple times. even blackmail by putting her father into a asylum which is a death sentence in that time period.
Yes! I agree with you 💯! Belle would definitely have been a prisoner had she married Gaston. You summed up exactly what made the beast fall for Belle, and why Gaston was not perfect for her. You did an magical job! 💜💟🥀
The people who want her to be with Gaston are probably like Gaston themselves in personality, and they felt attacked, lol. That's the only explanation I can think of, because the movie does a great job of showing us WHY Belle chose to the Beast, and that she did make the right choice.
🌹 What I find interesting about the Beast and Gaston is that they are very similar to one another on a surface level, but there is a huge difference between them. The Beast loves Belle for who she is and changes into a kinder man out of his own free will. Meanwhile Gaston not only stays the same, but doesn't respect her wishes and sees her as a conquest. That aspect makes them excellent foils for one another and well written characters. Belle made a good call, because she would've been miserable if she chose Gaston, a man who doesn't care about her in the slightest.
🌹 I agree so much. gaston gets more and more miniplutive and narcissistic, unlike the beast who gets positive character development (what I call it when a character changes for the better). Also the fact that he threatened to have belles dad persecuted and attempted to kill the beast when belle shows that she cares about him is twisted and sickening. I kinda think Gaston is a bit of a yandere now tbh, but without really loving belle.
He was okay with it because he was a good friend as for why she chose Phoebos over Quasi its simple: she loved him romantically and loved Quasi as a friend.
This makes so much more sense for those who for some odd reason think Gaston's better than the Beast - LIES! I agree with you Issac, this is a wonderful video, have a magical day!!!
Well, it wasn’t actually true love. Gaston did not even care about Belle’s feelings, he just wanted Belle as a trophy wife. So the answer is no. Gaston is not good for Belle.
Agreed! Not to mention, Gaston had already planned out the life he would have with Belle. The number of children they will have and the lifestyle they will live is a statement, not a question. The beast respects her freedom and her right to choose. Yes, he did take her prisoner in the beginning, which makes letting her leave in the end all the more significant. Gaston wants Belle so she can make him happy. The beast's highest priority is making her happy, even at the cost of his own happiness.
I have read a novel like that, set in the early 20th century. There, the girl was a good housekeeper but introverted and repulsed of the thought of marriage and sex. She also had a successful, charismatic former womanizer as a stalker she had only contempt for. They did get married, but only made each other miserable, because they didn't see eye to eye about anything.
I was already arguing with the pro-Gaston theory when you explained it at the beginning of the video, so I was delighted to hear that you shared my opinion 😂❤
“ They only take a snapshot of who theses two characters are and don’t consider their growth throughout the story or desires of belle her” Is the line perfectly sums up the problem with people who try claim belle should have married Gaston especially with saying they don’t take into consideration what belle wants No matter what you wanna say about beast but belle made perfectly clear she wasn’t interested in Gaston WAY before she meet the beast She said no end of story. It’s gross people try argue and every time I see someone try defend Gaston say belle should married even after she said no and made clear she wasn’t comfortable with it makes me wanna slam their head into wall.
I like that you said “consider subscribing” and didn’t tell us to subscribe to your channel and gave us an option unlike a lot of other channels do 🙂👍🌹(also totally agree with you)
Gaston is nothing a ladies man, a jerk, doesn't love anyone but himself, wants belle only for her beauty not her true self, also wants to marry her and treat her like a slave, also thinks that a woman should never read books, and he would do anything to make belle his wife. Also I agree belle did make the right decision of being with the beast. He saved her life, yes he may have treated her badly at first but he didn't know how to be nice and gentle to others, he started to forget his hateful ways and started to act like a true prince, also he loves her for her and not for her beauty
Though I do wonder about the Epilogue. This was in France, during, I believe revolutionary times? The book was written in the 1700's, and in the movie, steam machines are used. Times when nobles got sent to the guillotine just for being nobles. Back then, rich & in power = evil and deserve to die. If it was, then you'd be having an issue in the aftermath of it all. That mob led by Gaston might come back, bigger, with charges of witchcraft. Except that the servants are human and can't get the drop on the mob any more. That does not bode well for those in the castle. The mob may have been scared off, but again, maybe they come back. Never know. Maybe Beast does get a happily every after. Or maybe he ends up in the guillotine for being a noble and for witchcraft charges. Who knows.
