Most humans have the unusual instinct to not feel bad about the harm that they do not actively commit. "Killing is horrible, but letting someone die is not always all that bad..." Toss in normal greed/self-interest and we have our path to extinction... :/ I love her final words too, and I hope they are heard more widely!

We are not killing our home , we are transforming it to fit our needs, you need to think about the fact we are the only animal on record that can do that

Because we are not only intellectual, but also emotional. Without emotional we are no different than a machine. Greed, love, hate, compassion, jealousy, happiness, sadness, etc. They combination of intelligence and emotion makes us human and separates us from other animals such as chimpanzees. Just because a chimpanzee can solve a puzzle or learn that a certain sound leads to a certain outcome is not equal to us. They don't question why they are doing the puzzle or why we ask them to do so. The closest communication we have ever gotten to with them is sign language. Even then, they never asked us what's beyond the field of their vision, why they are locked up, why we feed them, who are we? It's because they lack the ability to think beyond their limits, while humans continue to test what the limits are and refuse to stop trying ways to break them. Because they are limited they are part of nature. We on the other hand have surpassed nature, no longer using the habitats it gives us, but creating those which suit our tastes. If the plants don't grow well we modify them, if there is not enough water we will build a damn, if we want stronger tools we will mine the earth, etc. This has unbalanced our planet and is leading to massive change. When a volcanoes erupts and send millions of tons of toxic ash, sulfur and other toxic chemicals into the atmosphere the world adapts to it, and we don't consider it nature destroying itself . Some species go extinct and some survive. We are accelerating this process and what we have found is that things are now changing extremely fast. This may well lead us to extinction, but nature won't look at us as bad. In the end our species did what it did and had a good run. We just weren't balanced enough to survive the challenge of time, just like the billions of species before us. However there is always the hope that some of us will live, some of us will learn, some of us will change, some of us will evolve and in a few million years perhaps those descendants who look almost nothing like us will looks at us as their primitive ancestors who were the first animals to create language, metal tool, use fossil fuels and utilize nuclear energy. I don't believe humanity is here to stay. Thanks to evolution we will go extinct as our future generations evolve to the world we changed and in a way created.

@@kinggloxinia5091 yeah i get that part but trying to give an animal that throws its own shit rights is crazy to me. Honestly i think chimpanzees should be used in testing since there the pretty close to a human, but if we give them rights how will we be able to do that? They are animals that we use to test life saving medical technology giving them rights would only hinder research.

I wouldn’t even give them the rights we have they would require unique laws befitting a society that integrated the animal not as equal but as vastly different with such a unique similarity ratio to us. If they want rights we can give them reasonable rights to protect them feed them have them near to our scientists. Anyone beyond a scientist or zookeeper I wouldn’t know what you would want a chimp for. It’s not reasonable to want a chimp in every school just yet. Or even uncaged for the most part. Dogs and cats don’t go clawing up the world because we’ve had them in our homes for a while now. So the same rule would apply to any animal. Including us.

To be fair. Realistically speaking not all americans even have rights. So throughout our planet its easy to presume that not all humans have rights.
