Should Christians Be Minimalists? 

Do you consider yourself a minimalist?

Thank you for this! I have been decluttering and simplifying my life for years and have always balked against this basis of the minimalism philosophy. What I have observed about my self in this process is that the decluttering process has really been a sanctification process. Some advocate getting rid of all flat surfaces, to avoid piling stuff on them. No, I realized that I need to learn more self control and just stop piling stuff on those flat surfaces. Same idea with shopping, self discipline, just stop buying stuff I don't need. There are many great aspects of minimalism and definitely simplifying our lives but without that godly, biblical motivation and focus, we will still be unhappy, just sitting in an empty room!

I don't know if we (morally) should or shouldn't. I suppose it's less a question of direct morality and more a question of wisdom/foolishness. In some situations it might be wise to minimize, in other situations it might not. That said, and for better or worse, my temperament is minimalistic in general! 😊
