So you're really getting into worship at church and the Spirit is on the move! Is it OK to speak in tongues if others are listening?

This is why I feel so hesitant to speak in tongues at church! Makes a lot of sense

your rule at the end neglects the full argument in 1Cor14. After Paul tells them that people will think they are crazy, because they don't understand. He then tells them the rule. IF there is no interpreter, THEN sit down and don't speak, except to yourself. The scripture does not say to not speak around unbelievers and confine yourself to very private meetings, but the whole argument in 1COR14 says, do not KEEP doing it, because of them and to stick to edification. This is why he also says "tongues is a sign for unbelievers". It is for them whether it is interpreted or not. If it is not interpreted THEN sit down. sorry about caps. Not yelling. emphasizing.

What about them translating the tongue themselves is that bad if they know what was said

If you want intimacy with the Holy Spirit, go ahead, and speak in tongues! If you want to lead others to learn to speak in tongues, do it! but explain to them that this is a gift from God and not a reward for anything you have earned or deserved, it is a gift everybody can have and I wish everybody would experience it as it is from the Holy Spirit for your own intimate relationship with him. Do not be afraid and do not reject it. It is from the Holy Spirit for your own edification and intimacy with the Lord. do not stop doing it !!

Tongues are a known language meant as a sign for unbelievers. Therefore, Christians are always speaking tongues in public if they are witnessing.

I don't care what this man says or anyone else says, God literally led me to a apostolic summit where they were speaking in tongues publicly and we did so in a unified manner. Jesus didn't contradict himself, he is all about power not misinterpreting his own word! There are people out here who are legalistic and lack power and they want to make us feel bad about what is good and I won't stand for it!

Speaking in Tongues should be discouraged. Speaking in Tongues draws attention to the person speaking it in a selfish way. "Oh look at him/her! Aren't THEY really spiritual and close to God." And yes, when I have heard it before it sounds like the folks there are crazy and yelling yabba dabba do!. I think this gift passed away after the Apostolic Age. Today it is used by people to draw attention and admiration to themselves and possibly power as well. There is no need for that in this day and age. God gave us the Word and it doesn't need a nut babbling to make it more plain.

I agree with you on the fact people use speaking of tongues to draw attention to their own selves in a selfish way. but the gift of speaking in tongues has not passed away. Edit: speaking in tongues is meant between you and God. Prophecy is meant to be shared among believers.

the apostolic age is the faith of the Saints. the apostolic age has not passed away there is Believers in Jesus which will go back and go to the Hebrew roots like how the apostles and Jesus disciples did in the first century. Does not mean they're better or any less. Every believer in Jesus is just a member in the Faith Jesus is the leader Jesus is the only King. HalleluYah Edit: and when I say Hebrew roots I do not mean the Black Hebrew Israelite Cult. I also do not mean any religion or/and Cult. The True Apostolic Faith will be Biblically sound and will not go against Jesus and will not go against the Bible.

@@javieredward777 The Apostolic Age was before the Word was written down and was Canon. Then it passed away 1 Cor 3:10. Tongues is not necessary or useful. I talk to God with my mind and heart not gibberish.

It's not about what you think, it's about what the Bible says on context. He who prays in tongues edifys himself. He who prays in tongues speaks mysteries. Tongues are understood by Angels. It's right to speak in tongues in the right place at the right time.

@@GentlemanJack295 You're leaning awfully heavily on one verse -- 1 Cor. 3:10 -- that you really have to stretch and mold to make support your claim. ISTM quite clear that nothing in the "gifts" and "gifts/body" passages in 1 Pet. 4, Rom. 12, and esp. 1 Cor. 12-14 and Eph. 4 suggest that any of the gifts, ministries, operations, manifestations -- including the spicy ones like apostle, prophet/prophecy, discerning/judging spirits, glossolalia, interpretation of glossolalia, gifts of healings, works of powers -- will be gone until the body/Church is unified and mature, and the Lord returns. To remove any of them would constitute a disfiguring mutilation of the body, and interfere with its progress. ISTM even more *explicitly* clear that Acts 2:39 extends the "promise" of Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:4 and 2:33, which promise was demonstrated in the dramatic events earlier in Acts 2, to all believers everywhere for all time. Denial of glossolalia seems pretty clearly to be despising the promise and gift of God. Deriding glossolalia as "gibberish" is pretty clearly falling into the pattern of mocking displayed by the infidel Jews at Pentecost. Roger Olson said it well at his Patheos blog: "I do NOT hate Christian cessationists. (So far as I know all 'cessationists' are Christians at least nominally.) I have known and been friends with many cessationists over the years. However, I would never join or regularly attend a cessationist church or one pastored by a cessationist." "I will go so far as to say that cessationism is at least heterodox and unbiblical. Nowhere does the Bible point to it. The only passage cessationists can point to is 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 which says that tongues will cease when 'the perfect' is come." "I believe cessationism is profoundly mistaken and evangelical leaders ought to call it that. This is not just a matter of differing opinions. Cessationism is wrong and ought to cease. I am a cessationist about cessationism."
