Should I skip BREAKFAST? Keep long meal gaps? Try IF?
Part 1 of the "Should I skip..." series.
- NO, don't skip breakfast
- Skipping breakfast or keeping long meal gaps doesn't lead to quicker weight loss
- Instead, causes hunger pangs, acidity, bloating, anxiety, headache, loss of satiety, irregular periods, etc.
- Also, impairs assimilation of protein for muscle mass
- Leads to micro-nutrient deficiencies and low Hb, B12, Vit D levels
- Skip the packaged breakfast, have freshly cooked breakfast at home

So clear and concise... Thank you Rujuta. Your talks always reassure me that whatever my parents have taught me as a routine, is not wrong and not meeting the new age trends is okay and better in fact. Stick to basics and try to focus on weight loss through exercise and portion control, rather than intermittent fastings and crash diets

I tried intermittent fasting and it really worked for me. I was always bloated and had so many gut issues. I had pcod and never got my periods on time. I have lost 6 kgs in 3 months and my periods got regular. But i personally believe that different things work for different people. Also, i follow Rujuta for my daily lifestyle and habits. I never stay hungry, i just eat on the right time and it automatically creates a gap of 12-14 hours. I eat my 3 meals and well gapped. I eat everything i have been eating since i was a child. I just feel intermittent fasting (the correct way) is more about eating discipline than forcing yourself to stay hungry.

I do a 12 hour intermittent fasting and it works. I lost 19kgs in one year and is easy to follow i eat a light pre-workout meal like bananas and dates and almonds My breakfast is after I have done 1hr of gym and one hour of yoga so it’s usually becomes a brunch i snack a lil if i feel hungry in the evening and have a light dinner It’s usually over by 9

I’m so glad you said something about this. Also I think skipping or keeping dinner is right way to do something like IF but because it is inconvenience for people to wake up early and sleep early so they tweak this diet to skip breakfast. Dinner should be light and early. That automatically gives the same benefits as IF

Honestly, I followed Rujuta during the beginning of the year when she launched 12 weeks fitness project 2022 and I slowly started losing weight. I was feeling good, used to be energised throughout the day but than sadly I discontinued due to exams. Again after 2 months I began my exercises and started intermittent fasting for 14 hrs everyday during Navratri.. I ended you gaining weight, was feeling hungry throughout the day, apetite also increased, had major acidity issues and my entire body now looks bloated. I didn’t realise where I was going wrong until I saw this video. Intermittent fasting may work for some, but from my own experience I can only say that it just gave me acidity, increased my appetite and made me feel bloated. Thank you Rujuta Mam, you are an eye opener.

Hello Rujuta, at some point, can you also cover the topic of including Omega-3 fatty acids, DHA, EPA in our diet? What are all these and where would we get these nutrients from our tried and tested aaji’s recipes? Like you always say, our grand mom’s never fussed about these nutrients. However, I read that research links these nutrients with better brain/memory health especially as one starts aging. Is that true?

I think there is no template that works for all. It depends on life style ..personally I have realized that "Do waqt ka khana " 2 meals a day really works ...you can eat as much as you want and Body gets enough time to utilize the food intake ..I have closely observed that even today Tribal and rural communities still follow the same and stay fit and fine ..this is time tested formulae since the dawn of Civilisation

In my 20s and 30s I never had breakfast, i used to rush to work and then eat by 1 or 2pm. Of course nobody was selling Intermittent Fasting then, I just ended up doing this. I put on a lot of weight, I used to be tired all the time. Growing older I have taught myself to eat breakfast but more appropriately learnt to listen and respond to hunger pangs and have a balanced diet eating home cooked food that gives me joy. As I fcussed on healthy simple food, I have lost weight felt better. I eat my dinner by 7.30pm. I automatically end up fasting nearly 12 hours though I am not thinking of fasting. In short in my experience of trial and error, finally this is what works for most people. Satiety, fulfillment, not overthinking food and exercising reason ably regularly has meant that I am slimmer and leaner 50 year old than I was a thirty year old. Different strokes for different folks bur fads dont work we all finally cime back to the habits that sustainably work for our bodies

Well i don't know how far m right!!! IF don't suggest to skip breakfast, it's just take your meal at right time with right amount...m diabetic and i started after reading soo many articles and watching Dr. Jason's videos and all others what I felt for myself that I stopped taking my evening medicine..but i couldn't continue because of some other reasons but it suited me well...I never skipped my breakfast I used to have fruits and dry fruits...healthy fats first in the morning...and then a small bowl of poha/ Dalia/ one besan and oats chilla and stuff like that...but in portion control!! But IF works different for males and females as females requires fats for their hormones smooth working...so females should never go for 16:8 fasting instead of that 13:11 or to the max 14:10 is best but for males 16:8 works wonder...having said all that every body is different and unique...so before doing anything just listen to your body not what everybody around you is saying or doing...

I am off lactose since 6 yrs. I have NOT bought Plant Milk once....I make it at home. Almond, Cashew - Soak one or both together overnight. Morning - Grind them with water. Strain it. Milk is ready! ....This is inexpensive too! 😍 There are tonnes of videos on RU-vid showing how to make Plant Milk & its dahi, butter, cheese. Go ahead & explore!

Every individual body is different.. a particular lifestyle/diet might not yield or suit the other. You are your best judge of your body and how you feel after adopting a diet .. the goal is to have a consistency of adopting the changes for a long term .. Personally IM has done wonders for me … also I don’t follow IM every day of the week .. it’s either 4 or 5 days a week … My digestive issues have considerably improved… weight loss .. clarity.. alert mind .. no more foggy mind in the afternoon.. Again when adopting a diet be your own judge on how you feel and whether it’s yielding any results .. I would say at-least give 3-4 weeks of implementation.. then do a self analysis… IM concept thrives on having a stable insulin level for longer time .. As many of suffer from insulin resistance.. Again be your own judge on how you feel.. do your own research and don’t follow anyone blindly.

This time I completely disagree with her... I have tried IM (14-16hrs fast) myself and never experienced all the issues that she mentioned.. Infact I'm less hungry, cravings gone, lost weight, feel better.. I don't think about food all the time.. I don't drink all the special juices she mentioned during my fast (then it's not fasting).. just water.. IM is a gradual process, you don't just start 16hr fast at once.. IM doesn't mean you have to skip breakfast.. You can have a late breakfast. But when the cravings are gone, you don't eat as much, so you end up having just 2 meals a day and maybe a snack(some nuts) in between.. You eat just as much is needed for your body.. She should have looked at the long list of researches on fasting benefits before making this video.. We already have a eating disorder (eating all the time) in our country, by saying eat eat eat she's just adding fuel to the fire..

I totally agree. Eating two times a day when u r most hungry is best. I have been doing so after listening to dr Dixits videos. I have my lunch by 11 to 12. And dinner by 7 to 8. Only water in between. My husband has stopped having acidity and gastric issues after following this life style. And we have our regular traditional Indian meal both the times. No fads such as low carb no fat and so on. And our haemoglobin and all is normal. It’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle which one can follow for the rest of his/her life. Eating four five times a day is not at all good for health.

iss field mein sabse gyaani aap hi hain. your goal is not to tell ppl how to lose weight, your goal is to make sure they understand logics, and not compromise on their well being.

She is trying to explain the fad of intermittent fasting on daily basis which most of us are trying to incorporate in our life for quick weight loss. Even our culture has fasting days on festivals. Occasional fasting is good for health and stomach/gut as well.

Of course IF helps in reducing wt.but the theory behind is just ur on a calorie deficit for a longer window.i have and i am practicing IF.but as she said there is considerable loss of muscle mass which is not good.i follow her past 10 more years.she is the one who insists long back food should be approached and consumed with neutrality ie good and bad food classification, now the western agrees with it.any way this video makes lot of sense and logic.hats off RJ

Really helps how? With what? Without any details and more information about the circumstances, the period, the age of the person, what benefits were seen and over what period of time, were there any negative effects etc., your statement means nothing.

Think about the rural people and the farmers (typical naturally healthy people). Do you picture them eating every two hours? Then, why are they not suffering from lifestyle problems? What is breakfast after all? Anything that breaks your fast ... correct? If someone skips dinner and eats next morning that is breakfast ... if someone skips breakfast and eats lunch directly that is also breaking the fast. I have personally practised both eating every 2 hours and intermittent fasting for 16:8. If your goal is to reverse diabetes ... then eating every 2 hours is not the way to do it. I thought I was doing something healthy and ate 2 hours a day but it only took me dangerously close to diabetes. Then I watched Dr. Fung's video on youtube and started IF saw my glucose levels come down.

Mam if you read my this comment then please make a video on gap of drinking water and meal because according to Late Rajiv Dixit 90minutes gap so it's difficult to keep maintain gap when we eat 3-4 times food. Please 🙏 make video
