My name is David and with my dog Lefty we travel the country in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment! Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 68lb American Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter (www.vsas.org/) in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. I hope you can keep both of them, David! It seems like the E bike is just perfect for you and Lefty to take on long walks. And on the days when you don’t feel as a energetic, you could still take him for a long walk and he would love it! But your motorcycle is for you. Your face lights up when you get on it, and you have so much fun riding it. Your lifestyle requires a lot of things you need to do and have to do and should do, but riding your motorcycle is something you want to do! We all need to have a really fun outlet which gives us a lot of joy and almost bring us back to our teenage years when life seems so full of hope and of course lots of fun! I’m not sure when you’re going home to New York. I thought you said you might stop in a few new places this time. But I hope you have safe travels home and that you are able to have some new and fun adventures along the way! You and Lefty take care! LeeAnn 😊

Hearing that bike and watching the videos of riding around remind me of years ago, riding around with my buddies with our two-stroke Enduro‘s. So much fun riding the trails on the weekends. Seems like it was just yesterday.😊 thanks for bringing back all the good memories.

My wife and I both have folding e-bikes which we fold and put in our Honda CRV with shaded windows we don't worry too much about theft instead of a bike carrier where I would worry when we are staying in a hotel. The major Pro is you don't need a drivers license and there are amazing trails in the Pacific Northwest for bikes and not motorcycles. Since getting our e-bikes we plan trips to places with awesome trails. Our bikes weigh 60 lbs without the battery and have a range of 150 kilometers.

Great question, Thanks for bringing it up...! In the US, if you're using the bike for inner city commuting to work and shopping or for bopping around a campground or exploring parks, and don't need long range capability, The ebike is totally more cost effective! No insurance, or registration or gasoline makes them very economical for short range rides. And you still get needed wind therapy... Sometimes I haul my motorbike in my camper and am more able to explore local highways. But other times, it's ebike only!

Wow! It's so green there. I am not on the road yet but I thought an El bike would be useful if you broke down so you can get gas or get to a little town for help. Because a moter cycle weights much more than an E bike.

If a person is so lucky as to live long enough to obtain wisdom, consider yourself blessed. My thoughts are that your best choice is not Things that are the most practical, sensible or reasonable. My theory is that if it makes me happy, that is the deciding factor. You're a pragmatic guy David, and sometimes pragmatic people need to be reminded to Target their joy, Especially when The Hourglass has more sand on the bottom than the top. Best wishes

The motorcycle is handy if for some reason your bike rechargeable battery were to be lower than expected, or even out of charge. The bike is perfect with a full battery. The bike, and the motorcycle have their cons and pros. I love whoever decided to put the bike and the motorcycle together, and they had a baby. The electric bike! It's great as both a regular bike, and like a motorcycle with the battery part. :)

I have a similar ebike and a 80cc gas engine bicycle. Debating in which one to travel with on my ambulance rv. I guess the gas bike would have less strain on my house batteries and I guess everyone has a spare gallon of gas if I run out. Incredibly hard to pedalable though. The ebike is faster, but the gas engine bike can go significantly further.

Where has the time gone? The most I felt comfortable doing in one day was 300 miles, and that was exhausting. TBH, if my vote counts for anything it's motorcycle. I'll finish watching the video now

Doing 600 miles in a day is a long day and it doesn't always work out... if I'm not feeling good in the drivers seat, I stop for the day. I'm glad that I'm not on a tight schedule and that we can take as long as we need :)

Hi David and Lefty: Video was so pleasant it seemed shorter than the twenty five minutes shown on the timer thing. To each their own needs. I own both a gas moto and an electric bicycle. Enjoy riding both. If I could get back into the life I'd like to have both with me. For all the same reasons you mentioned. I just restarted my chemotherapy last week and I may not be well enough to comment on every video but I'm still here watching all of them. Stay safe and be well.

Growing up on the St. Lawrence, I zipped around in my Boston Whaler with a 33 Evinrude. The e-bike is more like a trolling motor on anluminum fishing dinghy :-). If you have to choose, definitely the motorcyle. (From soneone who only paddles a kayak now, but love your videos of speeding down those dirt roads. Yee-hah!)

Kept waiting for you to carry that front wheel for a while! I sold my last street bike several years ago. Yamaha R1. That one would pull wheelies like nothing. Gas bike all the way. Remember, you can put the gas in it and go. No batteries going swap on you. Have a safe trip home.

I have a motorhome and only other transportation is my ebike. It is limiting as to how far you can go and do even though i bought an extra battery. Charging batteries on solar is a challenge. My car died a year ago this month and couldn't afford to fix. If I had a motorcycle I could go further to shop.

I have a foldable RAD-Rover Mini e-bike which has a governor to make the ride pop more. The way I ride, I am always pedaling. Even downhill if I get the power control right there’s a power-assist from 1 to 5, so the pedaling never stops. If the bike rode like your moto, then I wouldn’t pedal, but as it is, the e-bike is meant to pedal (my opinion). Would you say the e-bike would be sufficient for the ride into town? The only downside to getting to town here is that the roadway is 65mph and the side path that the SXS's take is far too rough for the ebike. If the road was 35mph with a good shoulder to ride on, then it could be done. Other places we've camped are 5 - 15 miles out of town with some steep grades so they could be done on the ebike with some effort. For me it would be a lot of physical effort to make the trips. A high end ebike would be better.

What works best for you is what's right 🙂 I have to tell you, I watch You Tube with subtitles and I find it hilarious that when Lefty does his low grumbles it subtitles it as "music" 😆 Lefty is singing the song of his people! Idea: I was thinking, why not put a screened, louver style vent in the door of the cabinet with your AC unit? It would be nice for you to not have to have it open when in use. So are you going to take more time getting back this year? There's got to be some interesting stuff to see along the way...maybe?

Yes I asked you this question before and thank you for filming this. It is not as clear cut but the EV bikes are just getting better with time and can hit some decent speeds. I do think it is only a matter of time before licensing, certification, and insurance become mandatory for the e-bikes as well. The government/insurance companies have to make their $ (and they will justify it in the name of safety). So any serious advantage with e-bikes will be nullified. Enjoy them while it lasts.

Loved scooter 🐶 dog😂 , Honda makes a modern version of the CT-70, but they don’t sell it in the U.S. yet, but that’s what I’m waiting for. The KTM 500 seemed like the best? I’ve been looking at the E-bikes with the dual 1000 motors, front and rear.

Be careful while charging your battery Dave. When the battery is full please unplug it. There is a hazard of the battery catching of fire if it gets too hot and gets overly charged.

Most good quality e-bike chargers automatically shut off when the battery is fully charged. I know mine does but I do unplug as soon as the battery is fully charged

Hey buddy. I got to say I’m a little sad you’re leaving I don’t know why I’m sad because you’re still 2 1/2 hours away from me. Anyway, it would really be cool to see some video of your drive back to New York. I was hoping to be able to start by cordite and see you this time around but maybe next time. I agree with you on keeping the motorcycle. Nice thing about that is if you really had to go someplace in times of real trouble even had to abandon the ambulance that motorcycle could take you on paved highway or off-road and over the mountains.maybe you could rig a basket up to hold Lefty. Well, I hope you let us know the day you’re leaving and then I’ll look forward to your next video David.

I agree with what you said about an emergency situation and having the bike as a way to get us into town if we break down. That's something that I've always 'carried in my back pocket' as another protection for us. While I think the e-bike is cool for putting around the camp area, and a e-bike would be nice to take Flash my Border Collie on long outings. I think overall I would much rather have the motorcycle so I can go trail riding while out on the BLM land or make short trips into town for little things. Since I can only carry one or the other I prefer the street legal trail enduro type motorcycle like yours David. To me it is much more useful. Another plus is if my rig were to break down I would have a way to go get parts or whatever I need to get the rig going again. Who knows, maybe I could teach Flash to ride on the tank?

@@TheCampulanceMan Thanks David. I broke down In Corinth Mississippi in September of 2022 and had to rent a car for 28 days while my truck was in the shop. If I had a bike like yours the car rental would have paid for most of the price of the bike. My travel trailer was parked 7 miles out in the country and I had to have a way to go get groceries and check up on the truck repairs. Unfortunately my entire diesel fuel system had to be replaced because the high pressure fuel pump went out. Very expensive !!

E bike looks like fun but not convenient where i live.i live 17 miles from4 different towns.batteries wouldnt make it there and back.nor would i be safe from the cagers. So i got a couple of sma bkies,an ADV150 a nd a honda monkey,125.they get over80mpg.hubby and i plan on getting a cargo trailer to haul them and use as a camper and storage.when we teavel,we can leave the rig parked at a campground,and ride the small bikes all over to explore and save gas

Be sure to keep your original blimp video for when that company who claimed they took your shaky moon video files a claim that the blimp video is theirs, too. Every time you zoom from a 2-wheeler to something in the sky, it is trouble. But more seriously, what is the year and model of your GasGas motorcycle? I think they've brought in more street-legal models since you got yours. I still haven't wandered down to CT to take a look. I think if I get a motorcycle, it will be more likely a Yamaha TW200, but I want to be comparing apples to apples in terms of specs like weight, power, etc. Probably I'll stick with using my car and my feet, but there have definitely been places I've gone where a Rokon would have helped, but not often enough to justify one, and then something like the TW200 looks more appealing due to being able to do some of what the Rokon does, plus most of what an ebike can do, plus be usable on the road cruising 55mph and redlining at 65mph with the usual sprocket change. Adds a lot of redundancy, also, if I get a flat tire 30 miles from pavement in my car with no spare, nor room for one except where the motorcycle could just as easily go.

Remember that!! My moon video scandal! My bike is a 2023 Gas Gas EC300. Gas Gas has released a 350cc dual sport that's street legal, 4 stroke. It's similar to the KTM and Husqvarna 350s. I'd love to have one of those and I know they're lightweight too!

I travel with a ktm 500 six days , and a Honda 125 trail, and sometimes with a ktm 300 xc-w 2 stroke my girlfriend rides the 125

I had a 2018 EXCF 500 with extra SM wheels that I bought in 2018 - boy was that a powerful light bike! Of course I did the Vortex ECU, desmog, air box mod, exhaust mod... and then almost died on it twice! If I could, I'd have 100 bikes !!!

The only “ e-bike “ I imagined you getting is the Sur Ron. I don’t really trust these “electric” anything ,because they catch fire all the time. Boondocking and not having a secure way to charge my ride. I’ll stick with gas thank you. Great video 😊👍 Have fun no matter what your riding 💕 to Lefty 🐶

Charging is an issue for folks that don't have large solar/batteey systems. Charging these batteries takes hours even using the AC charger. It would take days using a solar panel.

there is a big wash that goes from here to town. but the sand is deep there and on a motorcycle its tasking to go that way. if you have a side by side its ok.

so you cant insure and license a 2 stroke street legal bike in Comifornia?.say i buy one in texas or whatever you mean i cant ride in cali?..hmmmm...on a sidenote as much as he lug that thing im sure he has spare spark plugs because a 2 stroke needs to wind out not lug around.i honestly think he would've been better with a 4 stroke but i fully understand why he bought it cause i love the powerband and the smell and the sound so im biased as well

The gas gas was made for low end pull and it does it great! It's not like any 2 stroke I've ridden before and the power is even through the range. It doesn't have the explosive power band and is real smooth power

It's a no-brainer the gas job 100% is the better way.... Look they're using fossil fuels to generate electricity to charge that bike... So why not just use fossil fuels to begin with....😊
