Never HEARD about balance between Serotonin & Dopamine. It is the essence of Neurotransmitter balance and YOU HELP to accomplish balance. I feel your truthful approach unlike most information. I watch your presentation 5 times. You brought myself out of depression. I will get to you and you will have a good life.
Awesome video! Super informative and you explained everything very well! One thing I wished you mentioned is issues with too much serotonin like nausea and serotonin syndrome. I’ve definitely had too much serotonin from supplementation and payed the price lol. I’m a big fan of mucuna! People don’t talk about it enough!
Im going to start a RU-vid channel called “Just Get To It.” Just get to it. I wanted to know if I should take L Tyrosine & 5 HTP. I didn’t need to feel like I was in nursing school again.

I can't be motivated for anything. 4. feeling like I am not important for others. sometimes absolutely not 5.can't feel the feelings of love , friendship, mom, dad ...., not a single pleasurable feel(which all I had once) 6. not feeling happiness while playing(prefer not to play) but little anxiety not now 7.simply don't want to live 8.(only after quit the tablets . these little happiness are only for the past two months , i think the reason is i am now on my village medicine(roots and leaves of some herbs) which is not enough. ) but sometimes I can feel the happiness(65% of my usual happiness)(I can feel the nature around me) like it is going to be over but with the 65% after 2 to 3 days it will be gone and the feeling of loneliness, worthlessness and all the possible negative thoughts will get me . can't go out of the house also can't be in home(better than go out),can't even speak with others , talk only one or two words but can cry to my sister (make me some relief) 9. I have these problem for more than four years. Initially when I had escitallopram , it made some relief for first 15 days. after 2 months of taking it . I moved to another hospital one month after quit the escitallopram . there they prescribed mirtazapine . as before this gave total relief for first 10 days and again into same mode and some worst feelings. not improved yet quit all the tablets and i im in my village traetement which made me somehow okey but definetely not enough.*** for the first time when i go for jogging , I felt the total releif but for only one and half days(initial stage of these problems not started any medication at all)*** 10. is it okey to take 5-htp and mucuna pruriants together to releive my symptoms and be free with my usual happiness? @@thejdocrealminute4648 yes indeed very helpful 🙏. I recently picked ALCAR and GDP-CHOLINE. It definitely helps me get through my 12 hr work shifts. Im more focused, alert, energetic. Not mentally exhausted like before. Do you think I would get more benefits by adding NALT+ 5 HTP or l- tyrosine + 5 HTP?
I may have missed it but I still feel like you didn’t answer the question?? I don’t know.. if both L tyrosine and L tryptophan (or 5HTP) both Compete at the blood barrier level shouldn’t they be taken at different times of the day? I know to take L tyrosine in the morning because it gives you energy but I’m also reading to take L tryptophan in the morning so it makes melatonin at night. Would you mind cleaning that up for me? Also, what’s your thought on P-5-P? But really I’m trying to figure out the best time to take the L tryptophan or five HTP. Any help would be great! Thank you 💜💜💜
Confused!! I'm an older lady and just need to know in simple terms what to buy. The actual names of each, the dosage and best time to take. I'm referring to Supplements named Tyrosin and Triptophan or is there different names. This dr is now talking about 5HTP and my head is confused lol PLEASE HELP UNDERSTAND.
by "taking them together", you mean at the same time (one dose) or I can take one in the morning (l-tyrosine) and the other at bed time (5-Htp). Actually, I noticed a huge difference when taking them together (at the same time).
Currently I take alpha brain (contains tyrosine), b complex, fish oil, L-theanine @ night, CBD… I asked my DR if I should supplement 5-HTP to help with my anxiety at night. Ashwaganda was the recommendation. Just curious if I’m off on my see-saw a tad without 5-HTP. Looking forward to hearing from you - videos are awesome!
Ashwaganda is good as well. 5 HTP -- only short term. Ash -- great for the adrenals and thyroid axis. Ash--- I recommend that it is 'dose dependent' ---if you take too much ---> you will be tired and want to sleep.
I just ordered a product from NOW that combines 250mg of 5-Htp and 200mg L-Tyrosine. I'm hoping taking them synergistically will have some positive effects.
In the description the doc wrote a ratio of 10:1, for example 1000 mg tyrosine for 100 mg 5-htp and it's a basic level to start with, since scientific reports that there is no bad consequences to 3000 mg Tyrosine per day.
Apparently natural mucana pruriens cause digestive trouble for those with Oligosaccharide issues. Will synthetic L-tryosine cause those same issues? I need to take 5htp for sleep but want to make sure I do not deplete dopamine . Thank you!
Hey Dr, Australian nurse here. I wanted to help my friends as they had just depleted their serotonin levels after a festival. They asked me for my help and I knew 5-htp would help. They bought a compound that contains - 100mg 5-htp - 50mg L- Tryptophan - 100mg L- Theanine - 250mg GABA Should they take this daily and add a 10:1 ratio of L- Tyrosine or scrap the combination and go strictly L- Tyrosine and 5- HTP Thank you so much for your help 🙏🏻 PS any further advice with supplements would be much appreciate 😊
I want to make sure I interpreted your message correctly, did you recommend 5-HTP & Mucuna, over 5-HTP & L-Tyrosine, because it will be better for your thyroid? I feel like you said not to take L-Tyrosine, but the comments suggest otherwise.
Awesome vedio! Thank you for the info ! I definitely appreciate it because I was about to buy l- tyrosine supplements to boost my dopamine. But I will instead buy the kappichuna supplement. How many mg. mucana perions supplement do you think I need to take to level my dopamine out by taking 200 mg a day of 5 htp supplement?
Just found this channel and subscribed. Incredible content. Keeping working out bro you look good. Anyway quick question because I'm sure you're very busy replying to everyone on your channel.... I have 5HTP, L-tryptophan (which now bc of this video I'm not interested in bc it doesn't cross the brain barrier) my question though is that I literally just began taking 5htp (only so far was going to take Tyrosine in the morning) but I'm still on Lexapro however weaning off. Would you say it's safe to take the 5HTP as long as I'm weaning off and plan to hopefully be off it next week? Thanks for taking the time to read this doc

Question for you Dr Jawad... I have read and seen where it is not best to take 5 HTP for more than a few weeks. Is this because people fail to balance it with L Tyrosine or Mucana Pruriens? In other words, is it okay to take 5-HTP indefinitely as long as you balance it with Mucana Pruriens? Or do you still recommend only taking this combo a few weeks at a time? I ask this because I have been taking 5 HTP for a few days and it has greatly helped my insomnia. However, I have not balanced it with L Tyrosine or Mucana Pruriens. I have some L Tyrosine on hand but not Mucana. So another question would be... Will the L Tyrosine do absolutely nothing in balancing or will it help a little? I know you recommend Mucana. Just wondering if I need to immediately buy some Mucana Pruriens. Thank you in advance for your reply. Thank you for this video!
I only recommend 5 HTP short term. You can take Mucuna for long term because it works on a different system. L-Tyrosine short term is beneficial as well.
Is both can be used like weekend recreational? I mean one time per week? Before bed? Both? Or morning on empty stomach both? By experience whici one is the best option?
Tyrosine in the morning and noon, 5htp in the afternoon and before sleep. Tyrosine always on empty stomach, 5htp is fine with a light meal (also in empty stomach is ok).
Take Tyrosin and 5htp together per day to keep the balance between serotonine and dopamine. A 5htp Therapy for depression is 3 to 5 weeks then same amount of time a break, for example 4 weeks break, then repeat until depression cured. You can also take it on weekends before sleep but this kind of "soft therapy" won't Cure depression, it's only against sleep problems.
Don't take tyrosine and 5htp at the same time, rather wait about 1 or 2 hours. Both are necessary to keep balance, if you take 5htp or tyrosine over a long period of time. If you take 5htp or tyrosine 1 or 2 days per week then 1 supplement is enough.
I tried taking L-tyrosine (500 mg) in the morning and always got a headache in the afternoon. I think I'll just focus on eating high-tyrosine foods and see if that does the same trick.
Hi Doctor, I am depressed for the past one year(feeling not interested in movies, games , anything.... , *worthlessness, can not have a single pleasurable feel) but once a three or two months , it feels like it is going to be over as feeling something good(only for two days). even sucsess can't make me happy. is it okey to take 5-htp and mucuna pruriens? how long will it take to feel the difference?
Hello doctor. What if you have low dopamine receptors. Ive read that taking Macuna will increase dopamine but it is bad because it bypasses the upregulation of dopamine receptors therfore bombarding your brain with too much dopamine and causing more down regulation. What do you recommend for dopamine upregulation?
So still not clear, I am sure it’s me not you. But I never heard a definitive answer. But I think I heard take 5-htp with Mucuna and not Tyrosine. Because Tyrosine can impact the thyroid some how. Is that correct?
Hello, a couple of questions. 1) I am taking 5-HTP for insomnia. I took 100 mg for 5 consecutive days before bedtime, then I took 200 mg for 7 consecutive days before bedtime, now I am on 300 mg for the last 10 consecutive days before bedtime and will continue this dosage for awhile. I have yet to see any improvements in sleep and I know it may take longer yet to start seeing results. Do I continue with the dosage I am on and keep going, or do I increase dosage? If increasing dosage, how many days in succession usually is a good rule before increasing dosage? 2) I also read that 5-HTP can elevate serum cortisol levels. If that be the case, does one really take 5-HTP before bedtime? Maybe a different time of the day? I usually wake up a couple of hours after going to sleep. I was hoping 5-HTP was going to solve this and let me sleep for a longer duration. Any feedback. Anyone at all.
@@jcbanbury , If you have any recommendations or can point me towards some good resources I would appreciate it. For context, I am 5'11" and 200 lbs. If it was going to help, woudn't I have seen some changes of benefit at some point and then maybe changes that were detrimental?
Another question, why do you recommend to take 5htp short term? I have read some information that seems to suggest that most ssri affects or lower dopamine levels which could suggest that taking 5htp for long periods of time could have a similar effect to taking ssri during long periods, or am im on the wrong direction? I mean people take ssri for decades without even supplementing l tyrosine. Or is there some fundamental difference between taking 5htp and ssri other than that 5htp raise serotonin levels in general, while ssri inhibits the reuptake and thus the destruction of serotonin in the brain, leaving you with more serotonin in your brain as a result?
I'm a heavy caffeine drinker and been taking a lot of dopamine supplements. I now feel anxious, irritable and depressed I'm guessing it's time to add some 5htp I also been been craving sugar like crazy
Hi Dr. Jawa, Thank you so much for your Amazing n informative videos I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism should I take l-tyrosin or Mucuna extract ?! I don't take any medication for hypothyroidism just lugol's iodine?! I'm 56 years old (menopausal) . Greatly appreciated 🙏😊❤ Subscribed well deserved!!
Why not take tryptophane instead of 5htp? Sure because of the rate limiting step the increase of serotonin is slower, but isn't it more natural? 5htp enables us to bypass rls thus producing more serotonin. Isn't that potentially more problematic than producing more normal quantities through tryptophane?
5-HTP is generally recommended over l-tryptophan because it crosses the blood-brain barrier at a higher rate, is converted into serotonin more efficiently than l-tryptophan, and has a more pronounced antidepressant effect. The rate determining step is the slowest step of a chemical reaction that determines the speed (rate) at which the overall reaction proceeds. The rate determining step can be compared to the neck of a funnel. The rate at which water flows through a funnel is limited/ determined by the width of the neck of the funnel and not by the rate at which the water is poured into the funnel. Like the neck of the funnel, the slow step of a reaction determines the rate of a reaction. Not all reactions have rate determining steps and has one only if one step is significantly slower than the other steps in the reaction.
Thanks for the video. Could you please let me know if Goat or Bovine Colostrum is safe for human consumption? I've heard that it contains growth factors that human body doesn't recognize and causes an immune response and prostate cancer in worst cases
If I take 50mg 5htp and 320mg of l tyrosine is that enough to balance them? or do they need to be the same dose like both 320mg? I heard GABA the calming neurotransmitter regulates them both too
Can you specify the ratio of intake Mucuna extract(which contain min. 15% L-Dopa) to 5-HTP(200mg per day)? Should it be somewhere around 2:1 (considering the amount of L-Dopa from the extract)? Like 2600mg of Mucuna extract(which must contain min. 390mg L-Dopa) to 200mg 5-HTP?
I'm still confused. Are you saying don't take l-tyosine but instead take mucuna pruriens? And also to take 5-htp? Do you take it at the same time or maybe mucuna pruriens in the mornign and 5-htp at night?
You can take Mucuna and 5 HTP at the same time. I recommend taking the Mucana in the morning while 5 HTP in the evening-----if you need something to have get to bed. Remember, 5 HTP is a 'natural anxiety' supplement as well.
@@thejdocrealminute4648 I've seen other video saying mucuna depletes your natural ability to produce dopamine and to instead take bromantane instead. Have you looked into this?

How much mucuna can I take each day? I’ve been taking 1000mg once daily. I’ve also been taking 1500mg tyrosine 2x and 5htp or theanine 150mg. Can I work with you?
Hi, doctor! Thanks a lot for the video! May I ask if the recommended ratio of 10:1 apply to L-Dopa replacing L-Tyrosine? I've read that they work in very similar ways, and wondering if these two can be replaced by each other.

Hi Dr. Do you know if i can combine 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine with ADHD meds? And will you recommend it? I’ve heard people combining adhd meds and 5-htp but not all three
Ask your psychiatrist. For example it's not recommended to combine antidepressants with 5htp due to side effects like serotonin syndrome (it Deadly dangerous).
So is it and useful to take Tyrosine during the day for focus and energy then HTP in the evening? it would be nice if you could take some HTP during the day for anxiety or if you have another suggestion?
Do you have any experience using these two supplements for ADHD symptoms? I am trying to find a natural remedy vs taking Vyvanse. I read a study that these two have proved significant improvement or complete elimination of ADHD symptoms.
do you take your both supplements at the same time or separately ? let's say tyrosine in the morning and 5 htp at night ? or both together one or two times a day ?
It would make perfect sense that I have low levels of dopamine yet I tried L tyrosine and it didn't do anything. I experimented with taking 1500mg a day for a few days. I can't understand why it didn't work and I'm very disappointed. I've heard so many positive reviews about it giving people more energy and a mood boost.
Please help. I'm a gym enthusiasts. I'm basically fine. But somehow I would like to try Welbutrin antidepressant. Many people say it is amazing. But most of all this people ends this honeymoon and they all return back with some heavy withdrawals. Now, I start to acknowledge this dopamine and serotonin thing. I know tyrosine is interesting. Gave me focus, uplifting mood. But I never thought about serotonin balance. Please help me with this info. I have pretty stressful life. 2g of tyrosine in the morning to much? If I take 2g of tyrosine then I should take 200mg 5htp before sleep. Please I also have some problems with sleep. Sometimes a beer is fine. What you think is good add for sleep with 5htp? Aswaganda? Theanine? Thank you man!!! Those times are realy rough. What is your thought on antidepresant? I'm 180 high...90kg weight Peace!!!
If I take 400 mg of 5htp, 200mg in the morning and 200 in the evenings. How much l tyrosine do i need to take? Can i take it at the same time as 5htp? Or how do you suggest i could take l tyrosine if the goal is to take 400 mg 5htp a day. I take full responsibility for my experimenting so you don't need to worry. Right now i take 100 mg 5htp a day but my intention is to increase to 400 mg a day to see if i can replace paroxetine 60 mg a day for my ocd and panic attacks. I haven't taken Paroxetine for 4 month, i quit almost cold turkey after using it for several years. It was not easy but i did it. I now take 3000 mg of gaba a day, 1500 mg of asgwanda, rhodiola rosea 100 mg, high dosed probiotics and 5htp 100 mg. The effect on compulsions and panicattacks is overall about 70% compared to paroxetine. Some compulsions are better some are worse. I also have tics. The effect on tics is about 50% compared to paroxetine. Since i really would prefer not going back to paroxetine i intend to increase the dose of 5htp. Thats why i need advice from someone with good knowledge about 5htp like you. Also, since i have much tics, could it even be beneficial for me to get a little depleted of dopamine? As i understand dopamine regulates among other things, the motoric functions? And also as i have read, people with OCD tend to have too much dopamine in their brains? Would appreciate your opinions and advice a lot. Thanks on forehand.

Hey, I just started taking 5htp and want to add L-Tyrosin now as well. I heard that I should take L-Tyrosin without food because its fighting with the other amino acids for "the way into our brain". But does this also apply to 5htp. Can I take both together in the morning?

3 to 5 weeks, then make a break for round about 4 weeks and repeat until your depression is cured. Make sure not to overdose on 5htp! maximum 600mg 5htp per day only, and combine with l-tyrosine to keep balance between serotonin and dopamine!

Great information. You probably should advise patients not to take Serotonin or supplements that increase Serotonin pathways if they have HCC and or conditions that lead to HCC like HCV, HBV, NAFLD etc. Recent studies show elevated Serotonin levels is now a biomarker for HCC.
I agree. I have follow Dr. Jawad for a while. I believe he tries to keep this information 'general'. Yes, you are correct about the conditions that would be harmed. He could do MANY more videos about the peripheral conditions but, that is something for the viewer to research on their own.

Ok so I am having a hard time with the takeaway. So is tyrosine or Mucuna better to take with 5htp? And if so, how to take them together to reduce depression and anxiety and boost motivation?
@@hugsxkissesftw3959 To be safe, the recommended ratio is 10:1. Ten units of L-Tyrosine for every 1 unit of 5-HTP. So, taking 500 mg of L-Tyrosine in the morning and 50 mg of 5-HTP in the evening. Research showed one can safely use up to 3,000 mg of L-Tyrosine with 300 mg of 5-HTP daily. The important thing is to never use just 5-HTP or L-Tyrosine independently.

Dr. Can you take l-tyrosine if taking eltroxin for hypothyroidism? Thank you so much. Macunapurines cause increased uric acid - gout ? Thank you so much.
Tyrosine might increase how much thyroid hormone the body produces. Taking tyrosine with thyroid hormone pills might cause there to be too much thyroid hormone. This could increase the effects and side effects of thyroid hormones. I haven't found that MP can cause increased uric acid production NOR the dosage if it can.
I read that one of the commonalities amongst people who are Tyrosine deficient are people with lower body temperatures. Interestingly, I am blood type Ab Rh negative and they say RH negatives are known to run lower body temperatures. Do you know if low tyrosine levels and Rh negative blood types have any relation to one another? If so, are there any current medical studies that have been done on this topic you could refer me to?
@danielle North my thoughts are low tyrosine could be a problem if your thyroid isn't getting enough "food" to properly convert T4 to T3. Thus making you hypothyroid. Being cold is a hypothyroid problem.

Both SSRI antidepressants and MAOI inhibitors are known to have issues with additional 5-HTP. Wellbutrin, or buproprion, works with dopamine and not serotonin, so if you want to continue natural 5-HTP with a pharmaceutical antidepressant, speak to your doctor about whether this combination would work for you
