Overall thoughts:
This is a phenomenal boat but you will need to either a trailer or truck bed with a bed extender to transport. It will very hard to tip and impossible to swamp. So if safety and stability are your main goals, this is a great boat option. Though it’s not the speediest of kayaks on the market it will maintain 3 mph all day, 3.5 with some effort and top out at around 4 mph. Turning radius and boat control is incredible, paddling, is a little more challenging but not impossible and certainly doable with short distances. You’ll have near unlimited options for customization whether its power poles, a trolling motor, or, if you are just a DIY/tweaker type person, you will not run short of options with this boat. If you fish big waves and big water or even the ocean, this is the boat I’d want to be in. Also, if your looking for a partner to share your boat with whether it be a child or another adult, this boat will accommodate not only the weight but an additional Native seat with the gear track system.

Right on review. Both my spouse and I have a Titan. I have a trailer to transport two Titans. They are a beast on land, but once in the water they are fantastic for fishing and cruising. Fishing for muskies and walleyes in rough weather is relaxed due to the Titan's stability, which is great for this 71 year old. The issues you described is consistent with our ownership. I solved the seat noise with a simple use of a foam cushion on the seat. The propeller noise I just learned is being corrected by a fix from Native. My biggest concern has been the Boonedox wheels and I am waiting for a response from Boonedox thru my dealer. The tires go flat when the Titan weight is applied making it very difficult to move with a flat side. Otherwise, the size and stability is everything I had sought in a fishing kayak. The Titan is a joy to fish from. Thanks Greg for your videos. Enjoy the best of times- Fishing.

Thanks Rev. Pat Pierce. Trailer is definitely the way to go. Must be a rush catching those fish up close and personal! Never caught a walleye but have landed a few Tiger muskie and they're gorgeous fish. Interesting about the seat, I'll have to give it a try. That's too bad about your boonedox wheels, I hope that gets sorted out for you. Thanks for watching and my pleasure!

NiCe Kayak.. WoW..Hats off to ya.. My set up is .. I'm a Professional Amateur , Bought a Hobie Oasis Tandem July 2017, First boat..using it as a solo kayak.. Originally bought it to do wildlife photography .. but I figured while I was out there , might as well fish while I was out there right..so I go out with 3 rods.. 2 for trolling and 1 with a bobber for lunch time .. gotta 150 hrs plus in it .. really enjoying it! .. top speed 6mph solo ..havn't fished for 30 yrs but I'm picking it back up.. longest trek was 19.5 miles, a learning experience, bring more FooD! LoL! .. Hobie Oasis 14' 6" .. empty weight 93 lbs , 550 carry weight.. when I pull into the parking lot.. in 15 minutes I'm in the water .. using a Deeper Sonor Plus with a Galaxy Tablet.. Good Luck to ya!

Great review Greg and glad you are rocking the Titan. The kayak is slightly too big for my size and needs. Look forward to the 10.5 foot version coming out I believe it would be a winner, still offering tons of capacity and stability while being possible to car top.

Good review. I can see how this boat is favored by flat-water fishers who don't need to load it overhead (150 lbs? Yikes!). It is so wide to be barge like yet the pedal drive makes it faster and more nimble that it's girth would lead one to believe. You yourself saw how this kind of boat behaves in chop when you capsized and needed rescue though. So it isn't for big water fishing or maritime fishers. I used to paddle an Ocean Kayak Prowler 15 and surf-launched it. I would never, ever even consider the Titan for ocean or big water fishing. I fished Lake Crowley California in white caps ithat would dump the Titan but didn't my Prowler. There is no "one boat fits all", the Titan is a great boat for a certain range of waters and so perfect for some. Right boat for the right water. Thanks for the review.

Totally accurate review ... hundreds of miles peddled on the water this year ... Big Lake ..Big seas ... No worries. 250# guy that feels totally safe and stable. Can not wait to try the 12'. No lie ...I was out on Oneida Lake in 4 footers with this boat. Greg .. could you imagine pulling this one through the sand for a surf launch ?? BoonDox needs to tweak that model to make it handle the weight better.
@bradreid6057
@bradreid6057 6 лет назад
I'd only add to what Stormy Outdoors posted that, yes, Boonedox could "tweak" its Landing Gear for the Titan, and other makes and models, too; but, it'd be really nice for Native to concede the point that if you own a very large kayak, a Titan 13.5 for sure, that it is very likely going to be wheeled down to the water. So, if this is a 99% certainty, why isn't Native beefing up, even providing a custom mount location for a Boonedox Landing Gear? Native is, after all, doing exactly this by providing two mounting areas at the stern on the 13.5 for micro power poles. So, Native relies on Boonedox to beef up its backing plates? Absurd. Take the lead here, Native! You are already working with Boonedox so mold in what is needed from the factory. It could be a multi-purpose mount so if not for a Landing Gear, perhaps someone could use the mounts for outriggers and a ton of other things. brad P.S. Good review, Greg!
@GregBlanchardFishing
@GregBlanchardFishing 6 лет назад
Great to hear! Yeah, I remember being on Oneida when it got a "little" choppy in my slayer 13 and I couldn't get to shore fast enough! Just not my cup of tea with big waves and feeling like I could flip at anytime. No issues with the Titan. Size is definitely what makes it so great but also a pain! I don't even think you could roll this through the sand, or at least, not very far. I've actually tried putting a C-TUG cart on the front so that it has 4 wheels and that makes carting it (on level surfaces) a breeze! 10.5 and 12 definitely intrigue me!

Greg, I love watching your videos. Definitely getting me to look at the Native kayaks. Quick question, what line do you use on your Rage Menace and Chatterbaits? Lojo, I am a big fan of your channel and will continue to be, so please don't take this the wrong way. But, I just have to wonder why you returned your Native Titan. It just seemed like a complete 180 from some of your previous videos. The explanation for returning it in your video comparing the Hobie to the Titan just did not make sense to me so maybe you can elaborate on that. First all the PA is a great boat, no doubt. But, early on you mentioned the problems with your rudder / cable on the Titan and then posted in the comments of one of your videos it was an easy fix. Then out of the blue it was returned for this same exact reason? I can honestly say, that I would not return my Titan for a cable issue as the system is so simple that any issues are easily fixed and I would not give up the stability of my Titan to swap it for a Hobie PA. I have had some other issues with my Titan, and at times even questioned my purchase, but all have been easily resolved with a few modifications and I am glad that I took the time to make these mods and work through problems and make the boat my own, the way I want it to be, and to suit my needs. So, please forgive me but I have to point blank ask, is Hobie now a sponsor of your channel? If so, no problem I just think everyone should have full disclosure if that is the case. Or was it some other specific factors that changed your mind about the Titan?

Thanks, Lojo! Yeah, that's too bad,. Hey, whatever gets you on the water and fishing is all you need.

A very comprehensive review, well done. I do have one question regarding the fishfinder: how do you power it up? Do you also hook it up to the same battery as the go pro? I'm considering buying a fishfinder, but a kayak with two people on board has only so much room for gear. Thanks!

Thank you! 12v battery in the front hatch. I have a separate battery in my yak attack blakpak, also a 12v, for the gopro. This boat will support 500 pounds so you'd really have to load it up!

I did a search on the 12' titan you mentioned, didn't find any info about it. Was hoping there'd be some info out about it. Going to wait and see if this 12 footer happens. I like the old town pdl specs but it seems the titan has room to lay down rods on the side of the seat which I do a lot. Rudder seems way better on the pdl though.

Hi Greg, Considering a Titan. I fish southern California bays in a small kayak now. I'm looking for something that would allow me to stand and fish ( i use fly fly rod sometimes) and have more confidence to go out of the harbors (newport , dana point, huntington beach) . Seems like from the research I've done these are every bit as capable as a hobie pro angler. What do you give up on the 10.5 ? What would you recommend after having both the 13.5 and 10.5 kayaks? Thank you for the video it provided a lot of insight.

@GregBlanchardFishing
@GregBlanchardFishing 6 лет назад
Not bad, I only have a small bit after a months worth of trips, and it might be coming from the rear hatch actually. This boat was the 2nd Titan made so the sealant on the rear hatch is supposedly sub par which they've corrected. Agreed, I don't care about the noise from the seat (maybe I'm used to it from the slayer?). But yeah, overall, great boat if you have a good means of getting it on/off the water!

Great video Greg. Quick question. As you picked up the front to load the native and the rear went down, it looked like the rudder hit the ground. Will this cause damage at all if it continually happens?
@scoutshooter4018
@scoutshooter4018 6 лет назад
I have been concerned about this same thing. My rudder drags whenever I put the bow up on the trailer to load it. The rudder will completely bend. So far, I have not had an issue with the factory rudder. However, some people have had issues with rudder damage when they have replaced the factory rudder with the all metal Boonedox rudder which does not flex. For this reason, I will be keeping the factory rudder. The Titan will already turn on a dime, I see no need to put an aftermarket rudder on it.
@GregBlanchardFishing
@GregBlanchardFishing 6 лет назад
Yep, you're right. I take the rudder off with transport. I'm so used to it now it takes me 10 seconds but can be a pain initially or if you're trying to install the rudder in the dark

Questiosn about the 12-VDC power for the GoPros: 1. Are you using GP4s or 5s? 2. Have you figured out how to make the USB power for GPs water-resistant or water-proof? Kind of important in kayaks unless you watn to replace all your GPs if you capsize.

Gopro 4 black rear cam, Hero 3 silver front cam. Nope, I have not and it's actually a new addition for me installed by a friend. It's in the black pak and for me personally I don't see flipping. Mainly because I watch the weather diligently now before I go out on the water and also because I've been in some serious waves already in the Titan and have been no where close to flipping. I actually am not sure I could even voluntarily flip this boat without help.

Yea, Greg is right in the video. You'd definitely want a trailer or a truck bed with an extender. I went the extender route. It's not that bad to wheel around with the landing gear, I'd say it feels more like 70-80 lbs when you're moving it which is okay for me as a bigger guy but I do have to be careful of where I put in/take out. Steep ramps and shores are pretty much a no go if I don't want to ruin my back.

Agreed with the comments. I racked it once by myself and it was not fun. So no, trailer or truck bed for sure. Thanks for watching!

How is you rudder cable holding up Greg? Mine has broken twice in 5 trips. This is a pathetic design and completely inadequate for a Kayak of this weight.

Spray some dry lithium grease where the fabric wraps the pipes. It may fix it without getting lubricant on your clothes

Did you find yourself talking in any water? Did you have to go waterproof any of the screws, rail systems, is anything like that?
@GregBlanchardFishing
@GregBlanchardFishing 5 лет назад
nope, pretty dry ride. you might get some water in the boat from the rudder cable holes but that's when it's a choppy day and we're talking maybe a cup of water inside the hull.

Nothing for Nothing, but my waist size is 46'' and I'm 6'4'' with an added weight of 280lbs. I don't think that that kayak will suit my needs..Unless I'm missing something, Am I missing something?.

Who (what manufacturer) has the best/most comfortable seat in a sit-on-top kayak that you have experienced? Native? Feel Free? Crescent? Old Town? Jackson? Hobie? Etc.? Your thoughts?? (Responses MUCH appreciated!)

Hello Greg. Just wanted to say that I love the channel and that I am glad to see this honest, and accurate review. I am 100% in agreement with everything you said about the Titan. There are fixes for the two negatives you described. If you will do the seat mod, (links below) it totally changes how much you enjoy the Titan. At least it did for me and I believe the fish can hear / feel that popping coming from the seat. The only thing left for me to do is to find better tires for the Boonedox as the tires are just not heavy duty enough for a loaded Titan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FhKx4iFUwG8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f5nilNtnNMQ.html

Really just depends on your preferences, very different boats. The Titan 10.5 will be a boat to look out for come this November. I have a feeling it will be a big winner

Big heavy boat! So you need a truck or trailer to transport it.

Greg, there was a video done by scoutshooter showing how he modified his seat. It seemed to work well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f5nilNtnNMQ.html. Also, did you get the upgraded propeller to take care of the cavitation issue?

@stevenburdette5195
@stevenburdette5195 5 лет назад
The pros of a kayak over a boat is that you dont need a trailer (though for bigger yaks like this im sure a trailer would make things easier), you dont have to register them in most states, zero maintenance costs, and they can go places that boats cant go like creeks and shallower waters. There are plenty of cheap entry level fishing kayaks on the market that will get the job done just fine. These bigger and more expensive pedal kayaks are targeted at people who have been kayak fishing for awhile and want to upgrade to something that better fits their needs and wants on the water, hence all the extra bells and whistles that drive the price up.

The answer is, no. If I am to pack that Kayak like the way I see it, I would rather buy a boat because you will not go far with that low hulled garbage. You are always at risk on a low hulled Kayak like these because they are not Canoes, which can take some rough water, but this Kayak, like all other low hulled Kayaks, would in no time take water from choppy and rough water. Let's face it, you hit the water during the early part of the day. You are anywhere in the middle of a placid lake on a warm day, suddenly a cool change comes with gusty and cold winds where the placidness of the lake becomes choppy waters. You're on the Kayak in summer clothes. The cool change gets colder, you take water and start to get cold. You suffer and wished you'd have had a boat with some protection against the elements. But no, you chose this heavy thing and no protection, a summer toy, in fact a toy that is only good for still water and warm day. How often will you use it? Maybe 5-6 times in summer but not on cold or windy days and choppy water. So, yeah, a terrible waste of money I'd say.
