As a '17 base, manual ,owner, heavily track modified , there is still nothing better than a GT3, that engine note alone is worth the price of admission.
Dream car! You’ll find the gt3 brakes require more effort due to the difference in “boost” from the GT factory braking system. This is better on track and allows better modulation and feel. It’s a common misconception that the brakes are “worse” due to the lack of initial bite on the street at low effort brake application. Put some effort into squeezing the pedal and you will see the brakes are great! Just an adjustment from a standard 911 or bmw feel. Really comes alive on track, although a more aggressive pad will give back some of that initial bite as well.
I agree with your assessment. The brakes on the GT cars are a bit harder to use on the streets especially when they are cold. But man they brake when you need to on the track
The engine and 6 speed tranny are sublime, plus it’s nearing the end so get them while you can. I have had 10 Porsches over 13 years and most have been GT products. Amazing cars. I say yes it’s worth it if you planning on keeping it long term.
@@TommyLGarage Awesome car, but the engine is a bit of a let down if Im being honest, but if you prioritize handling, you cant go wrong. I had a 718 Spyder too, and I thought overall that was a better car. But not sure if you want to track it.
I got to wring out a 991.2 GT3 at PEC a few years ago and man, what a machine. If you drive spiritedly on back roads and/or go to the track it's an absolute no-brainer! It is frustrating that the price premium on these cars seems to be driven by collectors/flippers who park them in storage; but people can spend their money however they want 😀
I made the jump from F82 into a 991.2 GT3 in March and what a car. Truly blessed to own such an incredible machine. Hopefully one will enter your garage soon!
So i used to have the same f80 as yours. Now in a g80 manual. One car ive always kept though, which i still have is my e92 m3. In a strange way, while in a completely different class of vehicle, reminds me of what owning a gt3 would be like. A naturally aspirated high revving motor with continuous ear porn. My goal in life is to own a gt3. If were talking about car hacking, those gt3 cars maintain value and build. If you can get into one feasibly id say do it and donr look back. I would rather have a gt3 over a huracan, r8, gtr etc depending on spec of course. Do it
Drove a 2018 GT3 manual for the first time last month. The engine is superb and every bit as glorious as they say. I’m sure the T is fun, but my money would go to a GT3 if I had the means.
I’m a big fan of the gt3 and nearly got a 991.2 just as you drove. In the end a cpo pts gt4 popped up and I jumped on it immediately. I have always been partial to my manual Cayman S . The one I purchased ended up being pdk but truthfully it’s still an amazing car to drive. It was my first GT car and I’m in love. That might be your ticket. Just fix the exhaust with OAP and you’re good to go. My desire for a gt3 is gone owning this vehicle.
you'll never be able to shake the thought of having one... only 1 way to truly scratch the gt3 itch! And one of the great things about the gt3 - very little depreciation (or wait long enough and they all seem to go up in value (with the exception of the 991.1 gt3, tbd).
@@TommyLGarage yeah, it's a def a lot more. Prices have been dropping a lot, though. 991.2 gt3 in manual and all the goodies (and non PTS) with 20k ish miles is closer to 180. With the whole car market softening in general (and maybe something starting to move S-ward with the economy), this winter could be a really great time to look. Just saying :)
I had a 991.2 C4S, traded that for a CTV4V Blackwing, then traded that for a 2014 991.1 manual C 4S…. I’m quite happy to be back in a NA flat 6 Porsche. I just didn’t like the 991.2 turbo motor. So I now have the last wide body 4S with manual tranny and NA motor.,
The 991.1 N/A S/GTS/4S/4GTS cars are amazing machines! They scream like a GT3 with good exhaust/headers, considering the S motor was the base for the 991.1 GT3 engine.
I’m an an owner of a 991.2 Carrera T but the next car is definitely a GT3. There’s just something about the noise and experience that’s unmatchable from other 911’s.
@@TommyLGarage The gt4 engine isn't a patch on the 4ltre in the gt3.Nice car but not a gt3.2 Even the gt4rs is dropping value as its too harsh with high interior noise. The damping is excellent on the gt3.2
The 991.2 or the 992.1 GT3 will be my next toy. I just don’t know if I would sell my 997 to get it… I prefer the more raw experience and the 991.2 is pretty refined when you put it against a 997. Out on the street the lower limit and less power is actually better
@@TommyLGarage I have a 997.2 GT3... yes it is one hell of a car, hard to think I would ever sell it. But I can see myself not wanting to deal with the super heavy clutch anymore at some point
@@lotion90 no but let me guess - you do! And you have hands on experience. And guess what - it’s all subjective. Happy you feel that way, but I simply don’t. No point of arguing. It’s like arguing about politics - makes no sense.
How come the original GT3 brakes are less performing then aftermarket 🤔 I doubt this comment, after all the brakes are what Porsche is famous for among other things.
@@TommyLGarage Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make videos. I've only recently purchased my first 911 and the enthusiasm in the Porsche scene has been absolutely intoxicating. I might need to get back into making videos for fun again. Cheers from Chicago!
@@mikeh501 even on the street? Please educate me.. honestly just want to learn the key differences. Not trolling. I've been the owner of a 991.1 C4S manual with PSE for a couple months now. It's my first Porsche and trying to understand what I'm missing. I love the NA sound and responsiveness and the manual has been fun. I've tracked cars in the past, I just don't know if I want to track the C4S yet.
@@raphaeledwards you should try one,but in every way tbh. Steering, sharper more direct more feel. Suspension, like hard mode on your gts all the time. Noise, more road noise, and the NA howl of the 4.0 is race car tbh, addictive. Speed, it’s much much quicker, feels it in every gear; whilst it’s only 70bhp more, it’s geared for 200mph not 300mph like a gts so always more urgent. Interior is the same unless you have club sport which is a must when you get buckets.
Owned many Porsches over the last 25 years. Over 400,000 miles driven in them. GT3's are special... no doubt the best sound and definitely worth lusting over, but not good daily drivers and you really need to rev them out to feel the power. I have been perfectly happy with my 911 C4S , which sounds great with a few mods and checks most of the adrenaline boxes for 99% of my driving habits. Even though I can afford it, I would not spend $100k more to own a GT3. Bragging rights to own one.. sure, but is it $100k more enjoyable than driving a carrera or carrera S? I am still not convinced. Love the car though. Porsche enthusiast and owner for life.
Owned a 991.2 T and sold it for a manual GT3. Controversial but I was disappointed - I really preferred the T for the road. It felt smaller, lighter and was way more fun at lower speeds compared to GT3. GT3 needs to be driven on the track to come alive unless you can drive constantly over 60mph. Obviously, nothing beats 9000rpm but I regretted selling my T. Ideally have both!
I had a Golf R and sold it for a Carrera T … Miss the Golf as smaller, lighter and was way more fun at low speed compared to the T …wish I had my Golf R : ((
Greats cars. But I didn’t realise a gt3 had poverty brakes. I thought like my 991.2 turbo s they had ceramic. Best brakes I’ve ever felt on a car. I deffo wouldn’t want a gt3 without ceramics.
GT3 does not come with sunroof = it is worse option than Carrera. And only people who can dream of driving one won't understand that you actually never use the performance it offers on normal road but you very often cruse in spirited manner and then having sunroof open is just a best feeling ever :)
Slicktop Porsches are desirable by enthusiasts. Most GT3s are tracked anyway, not sure why you would need a sunroof. If you’re prioritizing a sunroof then a Carrera or turbo would be a better car.
I went from a F80 M3CS -> Civic Type R -> 991.2 GT3. Nothing gives me confidence like the GT3. I am very curious about your thoughts on the Cayman GT4. 80 grand less, 8000 red-line, same engine, but mid-placement. Perhaps 90% of the fun for 2/3 of the price?
