From my experience diy ends up costing more than a product you know works and is easily available. Once you take into account time+material+trail and error, it’s just cheaper to buy it already made. I love still love diy

Right? I alwats try to save $ and end up spending money on a diy, not being happy with it and then just buying it lol

Depends on how you DIY. If you do it a lot you can make usefull and pretty stuffs with minimal money. Artemia breeder is really one of the stuff that even a beginer can give a go. If he fails the only thing he need to pay for is the airpump that he can use with the store bought stuff too. Artemia eggs are really pricey but Its mostly up to your knowlege to hatch them properly and not the equipment.

I use a pump bottle with the pop top lid to drain the brine shrimp out, it cost me a few $ for the bottle and already had air line and pump and don’t need to heat it cause it sits in one of my tanks, way cheaper and works better for me because it’s 1 less heater I need to run plus I dont need a big setup

Apparently the egress port is similar size to standard air line. So it is easy to extend it out as far as you like. Pop a valve on it and off you go.

DIY option that's cheap and still nicer looking, you can get a 32oz Ball Jar for under $3 and get a sprouting stand for it which will hold it upside down and off the table. Drill a little hole in the lid for your air hose and you're good. The glass stays easy to clean, is tough against scratches, is nearly as cheap as a 2-liter soda bottle, and they make many sizes to suit how much you want to hatch at a time. (a 64oz , a 128oz). Bonus, go to a farmers' market in your town and I bet you can buy a jar of homemade jelly or sauce to enjoy and get the jar essentially for "free" with your purchase, or ask one of them to buy a single jar empty off them so you don't have to worry about getting a multi-pack of the size you want at the store.

I bought a cheap hanging hatchery off amazon and adjusted it a bit. I use distilled water and sea salt. I only have one 55 gallon tank with baby guppies So I don't need a lot of shrimp I hatch small batches every couple of days . I also made my own dyi co2 generator out of soda bottles, gelatin and yeast. The plants I ordered had scuds in them. Now my tank has tiny weird shrimp that live in the gravel. I had to search google for what these things were. Now I have to dismantle the tank and clean everything filter included to get rid of them so they don't eat all my live plants. I am also having a problem with Diatoms to I bought fresh water shrimp for tank cleaners. They seem to be doing okay but the diatoms are taking over, I guess I am going to have to use distilled water for the tank also. It just so happens that I make my own hooch ( mead ) so I already have a distillery. I just wasn't ready to distill 55 gallons of water. this is going to take a while.

Update: I didn't learn my lesson... bought another because the connection cracked where you'd insert a bottle. & @BlakesAquatics , No 🤣 it came with 3× 6g packs of premixed brineshrimp and salt and the 3d print bottom and is branded San Francisco Bay, also it was covid times still which definitely drove up the price. I did find some brine shrimp recently where the hatch rate is great and how quickly they hatch and quantity for the price which I would classify as wagyu brineshrimp in comparison to other artemia cysts I've had.
@RyanStonedonCanadianGaming
@RyanStonedonCanadianGaming 6 месяцев назад
@@latedecember2805 I feed 7 sometimes 8 tanks and probably use about a teaspoon everynight, reuse the salt water until the light doesn't reach the bottom of the bottle properly, I use tap water and aquarium salt and I let my unhatched cysts/eggs tumble with the new cysts/eggs I toss in for the next day, just incase some of those eggs are viable and are able to hatch. Kinda experimenting even though I've got it going good. Ohhh, I also premix my salt water and have it in a dispensing jug just to have it easily accessible and don't have to mix salt and water and have it get to proper temperatures as it's already ready to go until the 5L jug runs out, then just refill. My problem I currently have is Hydra... feeding baby brine shrimp too often. Good luck with your 55 gallon!

@@BlakesAquatics hi, tks for the reply. yeah you can do that. but I have been looking for other keeper's suggestions on how to keep the shrimp alive longer for later feeding and for enriching them for max nutrient content before feeding. seems this zist canister would be really good for this because you can control the aeration very well and feed the shrimp easilyy. Many salt and reef keepers recommend american marine selcon to enrich. the product info also says this is great for freshwater predators in moderation. so I have been using similar to feed the brine and then leed betta and paradise fry. any experience with that or other foods? I appreciate your vids and thank you for the contribution to the hobby. But a suggestion. some of your vids watch like you are just going through the paces. this zist vid is a good example. there are many vids with reviews on this product and 99% of them say the same. I have kept fish and had a fishroom since the late 80's, but always willing to learn something new. so I really appreciate presenters that go the extra to give me their experience on the tips and tricks they have come across. Like the segment where you explain that hanging the canister from a rack created better circulation and eliminated the dead zone in the corners. this one tip is worth more than most of the vid. there is also a tip from other channel where is uses a short piece of flexible airline hose inside the cap so that the rigid tube can flex better into the bottom. anyway, my point is that if you go to the trouble of making a vid, don't only cover the beginner points. go into the details that more experienced keepers might be interested in, (like material quality, salinity mix, pH, adding some baking soda or other pH up if necessary). sorry to rant on, again, really appreciate your effort and look forward to watching more, but would also like to get that in depth content that so many other channels just do not or can not give. tks again.

@@rjv2395 Interested in your custard egg/shrimp recipe. I am currently growing out some tilapia so that I can breed with them and harvest those eggs as soon as they are laid. I think fish eggs would be the highest level of protein that we could feed female fish to bring them into breeding condition - in fact it may be too rich and need to be fed sparingly.

Please don't hang this on the side of your tank you guys. I bought one yesterday, hung it on the side of a tank that was probably a bit small (60L) and it was fine until I went to bed. Got up 7 hours later to find the tank drained, killing about 50 month old goldfish fry. It's a LOT of weight to hang on the side of the tank, and if I hadn't been so busy & had thought about it more, I'd have waited and made a rail to hang it from. Hope someone can learn from my loss.
