Great advice. I always tell customers with light colored leather seats that if they wear jeans they should get their seats coated right away. It’s an easy sale and your providing a valuable service to the owner of the vehicle.

The thing I love best about ceramic coatings is the price. Cheap investment for long term protection. However, the thing I hate most about ceramic coatings is that they’re all neutral and cold looking. No pop, just gloss. It’s why I still prefer waxes to coatings. Waxes don’t offer any where near the protection but they’re excellent at enriching paint color and warming the tones. Should vehicles be coated? Well …… my opinion = maybe. Depends on what you’re looking to get out of it.

If you prefer the look of a wax, apply a coating, allow it to cure a week, then apply the wax of your choice.

@@Detailers-Business-Academy Tried it several times, it doesn’t have the same look and often the wax does not play well with certain coatings. *EDIT: What I mean by “does not play well” is that some waxes are just flat out repelled by coatings. Wax on top of coatings causes fogging/sweating. Wax doesn’t last much passed the first wash if the vehicle is coated. *Don’t misunderstand, I’m not advocating against coatings. I know their strengths quite well. In fact, I rarely wax anymore unless it’s my personal vehicles. However, I prefer waxing over coating because that’s my personal preference. I am, in no way, saying my preferences trump actual science. After all, results don’t lie. Performance doesn’t lie. I’m not going to pretend waxes are superior, because they’re simply not. I just prefer the look of wax over the look of coatings.

Have you tried soft99 fusso coat? Has just about as much protection as you can get from a wax imo.

@@muchachogrande2019 Yes. The dark, light and even the older “stinky” versions. They’re good waxes, just not what I’m looking for on my personal vehicles.

@@Reaper-Jim that's definitely fair. As an owner of two white cars, both with single stage paint , the struggle to make it pop and look warm is one I know well. As odd as it sounds, O'Reilly has a shitty ceramic detailer that's their own proXone brand (rebranded purple power prime shine stuff btw.). At any rate the stuff really sucks, it's thicker than most any spray wax I've ever seen let alone a quick detailer, has no hydrophobics or protection as far as I can tell and doesn't do much for slickness. What it does however do surprisingly is leave a nice warm looking gloss with a bit more depth. I've sorta enjoyed the results of laying that stuff down and then adding a coat of Griots 3 in 1 ceramic on top.

BMW Beige interior should always be coated. LOL A friend had a few 750s for his limo business. We use to just call it dirty beige.

Tintcoat/candy coat/tinted clear, are becoming more popular. GM has used them for a while now on "premium paint" options on Cadillacs, corvettes, and special edition Camaro's. The metallic red, for sure, but I have heard the metallic orange and metallic blue on the corvettes are also. Not to be confused with Tri-Coat paint, which has a pearl layer between the color coat and the traditional clear coat..... AND YES!!!! they are sensitive to overheating/over polishing!!!! IT WILL CHANGE THE COLOR and look blotchy!!! I used a rubber pinstripe/adhesive remover wheel once, and it did not end well!!

The white vinyl interior is luxurious looking aesthetically but highly impractical. I think Tesla is doing customers a disservice by coining the phrase ‘vegan leather’ so they think it’s somehow ecologically responsible. There’s nothing organic or natural about polyurethane or PU. It takes years to degrade and releases toxic chemicals, etc. but that doesn’t seem to matter since all auto makers are using vinyl or vinyl coated leather. Anyhow, I learned a ton from this video gentlemen - thank you. And I love the “car talk”.

You are wrong. I just watched a video today of guy that has over 100,000 miles on his model 3 with the white interior. He has flogged it and he has dogs that ride it it all the time. The detailer that as working on the interior was amazed and how well it looked and is now a believer. Tesla has a winner there thats why I bought the same interior. I am a single guy and will not put mine near what he did so I am not worried and when I give woman a ride the go gaga over that white interior!

Coating fills the pours, just like it does on paint.

@@Detailers-Business-Academy Glass is not typically porous, nor is metal or the paint that’s sprayed on top of it. Just saying. Windshield glass is porous on the molecular level, though. A coating would, indeed, fill those pores on a molecular level. 😬

Ivan I am extremely interested in this RR paint code. I a few weeks I have an original 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible. 25 years ago the car was repainted in the original Burgundy color. I do not yet know if it is single stage or clear coat. However this tinted clear is something I need to be aware of. Is there any way I can tell the difference between single stage and tinted clear. The car overall has been a cream puff. It is driven but only a few days a month .....there needs an enhancement. A few area need chip repair which I am scheduled to perform. I look forward to your response. Thank you kindly for offering your time.

Unfortunately there is no way to tell other than polishing or asking the painter. Going from memory, the RR paint colour first came around 2012.

Recently detailed a 2015 dark red/burgundy Silverado HD The finish was pretty dirty but I went ahead with a rinseless wash using N914 and using Beadmaker as a drying aid. i then found tar spatter, and some yellow road paint which I tried removing with Carpro TarX ( I say tried because i never seem to get it all!) I then washed the sides with a heavy mix of Turtle Wax Max power shampoo and followed it with McKee's Hydro Blue. All looked well indoors but when the customer arrived to pick up the truck it was sitting in direct sunlight and he stated there were vertical streaks in the finish on the sides...he assured me they were not there before. Hes bringing it back this weekend...what happened? How should I go about fixing this?

Lots of variables but I would guess a light polish would remove the etching in paint. Bottom line is distilled water when doing rinseless is your best bet, and work one panel at a time so you have more control over the product on hot paint
