Yeah, it does hurt but I think the main incentive for me was to get the correct rope length, my rhythm and then everything fell into place. I still trip but now I have learn to get control and I don't trip as often as I used to.
I learned to jump in socks only in a gym with some plastic mat on it. It was challenging, but I learned how to jump fast. I did play basketball and was fit, so I didn’t experience any pain other than hitting myself with the leather rope.
Not gonna lie, I was like “oh shit” when I saw the title. I always jump rope barefoot 🤣 I thought you were gonna tell us we shouldn’t. I do jump on rubber mats and I’ve never had any problems. My knees are not the best and jumping barefoot is fine for me.
And also i noticed that when i jump barefoot i don't trip much...idk what's wrong with my shoes 😂😂 but i can jump for longer without tripping when i do it barefoot.
I was thinking along the similar lines but I remember someone else has already posted a vid on the advantages of skipping barefoot. I was skipping with shoes on for 1 month before I progressed to barefoot.
Jumping rope barefoot (with socks on) has made it much easier for me to get more jumps in before I tangle. With shoes I tangle every 50 jumps, without shoes I tangle every 150-200 jumps
I've started jumping rope barefoot but it's started to hurt beneath my soles..i want to add here that I've started jumping rope after 35 years..I used to be an athlete and gymnast in school and I'm terrified to see how much weight I've gained due to my sedentary lifestyle..but I am determined to get back into shape .Thanks for letting me know that i should wear shoes and jump rope..will start from tomorrow itself..🥰🙏
yes please do a video about choosing shoes, I have been jumping in my Adidas Ultraboost but they seem a bit too heavy (probably not the best choice), but the cushion keeps me from getting foot pain. Thanks for your awesome work Dudes keep it up! :D
To be honest, I do jump rope barefoot and of course on concrete. And I feel pain. When I feel pain , I take gap then. I'm kinda used to doing this ,you can say. BTW, thanks so much for your suggestion.
I wanted to say that I'm so grateful that i found this channel. I just started picking up the rope for a week, practicing your nutrition guide, and I've already lost 3 pounds. You guys motivate me to #DoTheThing
Started last year during lockdown so never bothered with shoes. Tried with shoes recently and can’t find my rhythm at all. Only ever done it on tiled or concrete floor, never on a mat. Never experienced any issues but also don’t know why I never tried a mat before lol Edit: hate when the rope slams into my foot and gets stuck between my small toe 😂
I learnt jump rope from you guys years ago and have kept that going with the end goal of learning martial arts. Started Muay Thai last year and guess what we do for the first fifteen min barefoot? 😄 Love you guys. Peace! Still can’t nail that double under tho hehehe
Duuuude that's awesome. I am sure with your experience you were damn near teaching the class! Have you seen this video for the dub: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8wwZEFkGB-Q.html
I prefer shoes, but I've done it barefoot before. I know that people who train Muay Thai will jump rope barefoot (and their ropes are heavy and really hurt the toes when you miss a jump).
Would love to see a current video with your shoe recommendations. I'm old, with pre-arthritic big toes (hallux rigidis) and I've been using thickly padded hoka one ones with decent success. Thanks.
NO!!! I did that for a week early in the summer and my knees started killing me. I had to take a week off of exercise. I have never had that problem when I wear sneakers.
I used to jumprope with shoes..but it used to feel bit congested/less free..tried socks too..eventually settled on mats and bare feet. Feel much more free
Does anyone else gets planters fasciitis in their feet from jumping on concrete? It sucks so bad that I had to give jumping rope up. I’m hoping I’ll eventually get some advice from this channel because it’s my favorite cardio
Careful guys! I made the mistake of jumping in my barefoot shoes on concrete… top of foot pain that is improving but it’s still a set back and I’m still not 100% sure it’s just going to heal. Mind you I’m 255lb so this was just very dumb of me. Again be careful especially big people! I’m gonna look on your channel for advice on this pain I hope it’s there.. or somewhere 🙏 Edit: (in the context of getting back into fitness after a 3 year break)
Hell yeah. I’ve been jumping rope barefoot since the beginning. Nowadays the gym got a wrestling floor for a little bit more than 1 year😍. With shoes on feels not normal to me.
Also it's easier to jump rope barefoot because when you use sneakers there is a chance that the rope might hit them while it wouldn't if you were just jumping barefoot. I can skip barefoot for like twice as long as I would with my shoes on
I'm at the beginning of my weight loss journey, and for the last couple of weeks, I've been using a weighted jump rope, and I am on concrete and barefoot. I am easing into the amount of time I jump, still less than 100 jumps a day. My feet feel fine, except for right behind my right big toe, along the arch, it's a little sore and tight, so I'm stretching the toe, and massaging the areas that are slightly hurting. I am barefoot all day, and its easier for me to get quick workouts in at home doing it barefoot.
when I started jumping barefoot, I had blisters on my 1st Met-head for a week but I don't get them anymore, I jump rope for 10 minutes Monday to Friday, it's the first thing I do when I wake up, my rationale is that I sweat before I bath and my day just flows from there.
I started working out in my concrete floor basement, after some weeks my left knee started hurting and yes I was doing it barefoot. Havent started back up in weeks and still have sensitivity above my left knee. Hoping it goes away so I can start back up again as it was my only source of cardio in the dead of winter
Well I jump rope barefoot on the concrete. I call in “Earth Grounding”. It’s what I have done since childhood. I agree that if is not what you are use to begin on a soft surface.
I personally can't jump rope barefoot I had knee problems for years due to my weight and sickle cell and I don't want to do it with socks or barefoot as I could easily injure myself
I'm barefoot and on my feet (with socks) all day unless I run out to the store for an hour. I'm a jump rope beginner and am using zero drop shoes. Today's sport shoes have way too much cushion for my comfort; I can't bend my foot at the toes!
I hate to wear shoes in general and especially when I workout but the times I have jumped barefoot for any significant amount of time feel fine at the time but the next day my feet (mainly arches) and calves are destroyed and I can barely walk. I stopped for a while (a covid eternity) and am just getting back into it and jumping with (running) shoes I still feel pain in my feet and wonder if that's just beginners pain, if I need new shoes or a rubber mat like you have mentioned but I don't want to run out an make a big investment as I am also getting older😕 and I suspect that may have an effect too. I really appreciate this video and your advice. I have just found you "Dudes" and wonder if your primary focus really is on "dudes" or if you intend the word in a unisex kind of way?
I've been running barefoot for almost 20 years, not as consistently as i'd like. Started jumping a month ago, up to 1500 skips/day, barefoot of course. No probs so far. Of course, i suspect the advice wasn't aimed at me, just sharing personal experience.
What about arch pain in my foot? I’m do have very flat feet but I noticed that when I jump rope my arches ache a lot after 2-3 minutes straight I’d jump rope
It's been 1 year to me connected with you and Bradnapsin jumping rope and I feel myself fortune that I got your company and lost around 10kg now I totally fit and fine ....but something I feel knee pain ..... could you please explain the main cause behind it or make a video.....
Just be careful, metatarsal Fracture is very possible! Especially without a cushioned floor, I think shoes with some absorption is a must. Barefoot to me is not worth the risk, especially if skipping is a huge part of your fitness.
I started barefoot and now can only do barefoot or with really heavy shoes, i can't do with jump rope with light shoes, and i use 1 pounder one for jump roping.
I did have a routine of doing a 10 minute emom workout of doing 10 push ups, 10 squats, and 5 banded rows on minute one. Then on minute 2 I do jump rope for 40s or until the timer ends. I woukd repeat this process for 5 rounds or 10 minutes in total. I can modify this workout to doing 10 rounds or 20 minutes of this exact workout if my mood allows for it. My experience with doing jump rope barefoot shoes is not that bad. I did wish however I had a reliable mat or carpet so I won't have to experience smacking my shin with rope but also just for the better experience.
A few years back you guys recommended a pair of shoes(Nike) to jump rope and I still use them to this day. I'd love to hear your opinion on the best jump rope shoes in the market today.
I jumped rope for 10mins x 3 sets bare foot on a tile floor. My calf’s are killing me the day after, I cant walk. Lol. Ive been jumping rope for years but not for this amount of time. I use a massage gun after my workout but I’m still in lots of pain. Can you tell me some tips to prevent the soreness as id love to do a 30 days, 30 minutes a day challenge.
Hey I see this is an old post. Did it improve over time? I used to be in excruciating pain after jumping barefoot as part of other workouts (I like to do everything else barefoot and hate to stop and put shoes on just one part of the work out) so eventually I just stopped jumping rope. Maybe I should have stuck it out and toughened up or maybe I just have very sensitive feet/calves? I hope you figured it out. I am very interested in learning from your experience!
@@MissDanielsonMath maybe you are not warmed up enough before you jump rope...try brisk walking for 15 minutes first. Also the more protection the better....a jump.rope mat and shoes are always going to be helpful.
Dan, why the 🧦 may I ask? I a martial artist so barefoot is important, also there is a bunch of information that the body can use by being directly in contact to the floor. Also to ground better(I am sure Brandon will get that last part😊)
I hate wearing shoes. Of course in public I wear them to protect my feet but at home and when I do sports - no thanks. Naturally I also do rope skipping barefoot ... on hard floor. I can't even properly jump in shoes. The rope always tangles on my shoes. Though I have to say I do rhythmic gymnastics for 11 years now. We use thicc old school ropes and wear socks or half shoes for training. I guess every jump rope expert would shake their head on this but that's how it is and how it stays. I never felt any forefoot pain when rope skipping though. If you experience forefoot pain because of this it is probably because you protect your feet a little too much all the time. The muscles have weakend and get sore while your joints suffer because they don't get the protection they need. I can't explain the details in English since it is not my mother tongue. Anyway cutting it short here - not every pain we feel after trying some different is a bad sign that needs to be avoided. Quite the contrary it is often just a reaction of the body towards a new challenge. The body hasn't built the right equippment to confront the challenge yet. It needs to repeat it for a few times until it gets stronger. Though I recommend you, especially if you don't know much about anatomy, physiology and sports to get a physiotherapist to check on your training and condition. A really good coach can also help. I am studying to become a physiotherapist right now. Though it is recommended to use a soft surface to lower the force on your joints you can also start out on a hard ground but keep the skipping session a little shorter in the beginning until your body adapts. Challenge yourself but do not overdo it :D
There is nothing wrong with barefoot, unless you've spent your entire life in shoes and your feet now require the support of shoes. Everyone is different. We think it's great to train barefoot for a variety of reasons, but as we're sure you've heard/seen, there are people that hear "barefoot training is good." and then find themselves in pain for weeks because they rushed to go tooo hard tooooo quickly.
@@JumpRopeDudes Yes, I understand this. Though you can say this to sports in general. I think their schould be a subject at school calles hgealth and fitness where you learn baout a healthy lifestyle, proper diet and theoretical things about sport and fitness.
Brian R. From Buffalo 🐃🦬, N.Y.& I have sneakers from the Skechers Store here in Buffalo & just wanted to know what kind of shoes 👟 that you would recommend?
I am obese when I started skipping barefoot bcz of my weight my feets become flat so much but when I wear sports joggers it really pain but I think now it's better experience with footwear's
When I jump with shoes my feet hurt like hell and I can barely jump more than 30s at a time before having to rest. Barefeet I can jump up to 5min and don't have any pain at all
So here is the deal, I started to jump rope barefoot cause i was too lazy to put on socks and trainers. Then i just stuck to it and have kept jumping rope barefoot.
parsian rug is ok? Im Irainain we all have Irainian rug, I ve been doing jumping rope for four years, and I didnt have any pain, So Have I hurt myself graduely or not? 😢
Okay, but what if you've been leaving the barefoot life for years? :P Joke aside, it feels like the pain you describe at 2:45 also applies for people transitioning to barefoot shoes and plain barefoot.
