Hi Jim! First off, let me say that I have learned SOOO much from your videos! I have purchased my first order from LE, and I am looking forward to getting them in. I have a question... I have a Revel Nail Spectra nail lamp. It is 168W with a wave length of 365 + 405 nm. Will this lamp be good to cure your P+ products, or should I purchase a Dot? My lamp is fairly new, I've been having it for a couple of months. I just want to make sure I'm good. Thank you so much for such informative videos! I can tell you truly care. ❤

Hi Cajun Sunshine - Thank you for supporting me in my desires to educate and support our nail professionals. The lamp from Revel Nail is fine for their products but insufficient to cure our gels. I highly recommend purchasing a LEDdot or mini LEDdot. Best regards, Jim

I have always preached against mixing because of chemical components and compositions. At nail school other students would look at me like I was crazy because as they would say: “I mixed products before and it was fine”. I would tell them “ it might be fine… for a while. It’ll catch up with you later.” And it has. Sadly, a few are no longer techs. Allergies. This is why I stay within three brands and have the light for each one.

Sounds made up. I've been mixing brands for almost 10 years as have my co workers. Only people who aren't techs anymore are b/c they found higher paying jobs. No brand carries everything that I want.

i mixed brands once to get the perfect gel color and had major lifting within 24 hrs on almost all nails. tossed in the trash.

Hi Jim! Great video! Obviously mixing brands is a no-no, but on a chemical level, what happens when you use a “non-Hema” (say Jimmygel) as a base, and then add a third-party Hema color on top? Will the smaller Hema molecule (third party brand) still penetrate through the bigger molecule (jimmygel) and seep into the skin? Thanks for your knowledge!

Hi Jenn, the least amount of HEMA containing products that can be used, the better for those who have HEMA allergies. The biggest issue is more related to the actual product and how much HEMA it contains. If the top coat contains 25% HEMA, then it could be an issue. If the top coat contains only 3% HEMA, the allergy issue is certainly reduced but not eliminated. The issue isn't the penetration of HEMA through the base layers, it is an issue with the HEMA weeping out of the (in this case) top coat and onto the skin surrounding the fingernail. HEMA is water soluble. If there is unreacted HEMA monomer in the top coat, it can leach from the top coat and onto the skin creating an allergic response from the body.

Hi Jim I was wondering... I have been going to a nail salon for a few months now (they use the gel bottle) and I really like my nails. Now i saw the new HEMA-free BIAB products from the Gel bottle and I saw just one ingredient on the SDS. What do you think about that ingredient/product? Would it be smart to start using that product instead of the original BIAB products?

If the curing lamp is stronger than ours, more heat may be generated causing the client discomfort. The gel cannot cure beyond 100%. It will not crack or change the structure of the gel.

I know im going to get shot for asking this but what are Jims thoughts on Sun One lamps? They seem to be everuwhere? are they bad?

Hello, thanks for your question! Jim does not recommend them and you can find out more info on why in several of our other chemist corner episodes. The Gelish lamp is a great lamp but to make a broad statement that it might cure most gels is just not possible. If you can be a bit more specific, I could give you a better answer.

@@jimmcconnell6079 I’m now using a sun lamp 2c. I have different products of gel I like. Example, Young Nails, LE, and a product called Purple Professional. They seem to all cure in this lamp, except for another product I used, and that was Ugly Duckling. I’m not a chemist, so my question is how does one know what lamp to buy, and will it cure the gels properly. Are you saying that I should only stick to one product and lamp.?
