Good game. What a small studio of 16 people was able to pull off was impressive. The heavy build has a neat ability where his attack power constantly goes up as he doesn't take hits. Very good game at the current price point.
I really liked a lot about Mortal Shell, but I had so much trouble with one particular bug off and on where the dodge button would completely stop working during a boss fight. After a few times in a row where dodging or other buttons just _not working anymore_ until I died or restarted the game I had to put it down.I did really like Eredrim's(?) dodge mechanic where instead of doing a big goofy roll he would just take a fast step in whatever direction, despite being the tank character he felt more nimble than some of the others sometimes. You should also give Ashen a look some time if you haven't already, I enjoyed that one quite a bit aside from a frustrating final boss 😅.
Thankfully I didn’t encounter the bug you did but I agree that there is a bit of jank in Mortal Shell. I’ve tried Ashen but it was on the Switch so it didn’t run very well. I’m looking forward to Flintlock next month though (it’s the Ashen devs next game)!
Gotta admit, I am not a fan of rolling or as I call it dodge roll simulator in these games. Big guys in armor rolling around. It needs to be rethought. I also don't like that silly static jump in Elden Ring.
I really enjoyed my time with the game. It had its own charm and did a few things to be different than souls. It was fun, pretty, and as long as it needed to be. Worth it.
Imo this game is not good, i understand theres a small team behind it, but the progression system is bad, far too slow combat and the ganking of enemies would make DS2 blush. I beaten games like Demon souls remake and Elden ring and Lies of P, and what all these games got right is combat and how you can form a build that suits you, yes this game uses "shells" as a class system but it doesnt help thay uou have to find them, with the world mapping being awful, the graphics however are beautiful and it sucks that its the one souls game that i dont find fun tbh.
