Hello Aaron you alredy give more budget to performance max campaign then search? You use performance as main campaign of the account alredy? Or is better keep search campaign with more budget for some more time?
The official word from Google is that in this case the Search campaign would be the priority campaign in the auction HOWEVER what is unclear is what would happen if a user first engaged with a discovery element of the PMAX campaign before completing a targeted search. As in this case my assumption would be that the PMAX search ad would win.

For PMax campaigns that are in the same vertical comparison to Search campaigns, the difference in serving comes down to your keyword match type. PMax Search Ads will serve over Traditional Search on Broad or Phease match keyword types. But exact match keyword searches, Google will always serve your traditional Search ad.

I use google ads and for the first 7, 8 days I had about 300 impressions and 20 clicks, then a boom happened, in 2 days 2000 impressions and 30 clicks, then for 2 days almost nothing, and lately about 70, 80 impressions and 5, 6 clicks. I have moved from one shopping campaign for my entire store to pmax with assets groups per category and my conversions have Fallen from a cliff, not sure about this recommendation
Hi Leon thats really frustrating! But as I said in this video I would not do this all at one time as I would recommend to just start with 1 or 2 products in PMAX so you are not completing turning off your old Shopping campaign. When did you make the switch? As if in the last 30 days you could still re-engage the old shopping campaign
I will never leave everything to Google, the company that makes money on your ads. The main problem woth Google Shopping is, that Google defines all keywords, also in PM. This is very expensive. Instead I use keywords strategically, which allows defining keywords, making Shopping marketing extremely sharp, and at the same time effectively filtering all irrelevant keywords invented by Google. PM will never beat that.😊
Hi Bent, while I do definitely agree with you in regards to Google & Shopping. The core understanding when you are engaging Performance Max is that it is a completely different type of campaign to shopping or search, so you need to take a longer term approach and focus on new customer acquisitions which YES will be more expensive initially but if you can increase your AOV or lifetime value it makes it very worthwhile. The other issue to consider is that over the next 12 months if you have a shopping campaign going against long term PMAX campaigns that have 2 or 3 engagements before the user completes a search that triggers a shopping ad a straight shopping ad will have trouble competing. At the moment it is ok because many Shopping campaigns still have stronger long term conversion data BUT as competing PMAX get better conversion data this will have a smaller effect. Don't get me wrong I am with you and still have some accounts that only run on shopping as they are getting good results still but my feeling is that the writing is on the wall for these accounts and we will have to start moving over to PMAX throughout 2023

In my opinión it's always best to have a search campaign running in parerell (make sure you add audiences to observation to collect data) If it's a new account start with that. Get those conversions and in due time add your Pmax based with audience signals that worked. Cheers

That's bad for small business and startups because the video content needed can likely not be produced by themselves, so even larger investment is needed. As for Google, they are expensive already and they cash in too much money for too little results in my view.
