Wrists vs No Wrists.
Should you use your wrists for chipping and pitching?
This question is one of the most common ones I hear when discussing the short game and shots around the green with players looking to improve their short game.
The short answer is YES... but HOW YOU USE YOUR WRISTS depends on a few factors. It depends on what type of shot you are trying to hit. What the lie is like. Do you want the ball to fly high or low? Do you want it to stop close to where it lands, or release once it hits the ground. You also need to factor in what the lie is like and what the ground conditions are like, as well as any slope that you are playing from, or need to land your ball on.
The wrists are involved in EVERY single shot you hit in golf - even putting. Eliminating them completely is neither possible, nor desirable. Managing the wrists is the key to having success with your chipping and pitching around the green, and understand exactly HOW TO MOVE THE WRISTS will free you from the shackles of your one-way thinking when it comes to these shots and unlock an entire new world of possibilities when it comes to your shot selection around the green.
In this video, I will use the HACKMOTION wrist sensor to explain and demonstrate how the wrists move for different types of shots around the green.

After some time, I have come to embrace the S&T GRID, and it has significantly enhanced my practice sessions. I now consistently incorporate the GRID into my block practice routines. Rob, I gained a deeper understanding of your putting stroke thanks to Timo van Geest's integration of the GRID. I encourage you to consider incorporating the GRID into your short game video instruction, covering chipping, pitching, sand shots, and lob shots.

What a great video. This explanation and demonstration is going to be so beneficial. Thanks so much 😊

This is what I had troubles all along around the green. Thanks for the tip...

Really needed this Rob. It re-enforced what I felt I've been doing well but sometimes slip off the trolley. You are the best. Stay well.-Russ

Interesting.

Another great lesson Rob , what club we're you using ?
@mntlblok
Happy to start seeing something about flexing and ulnar deviation being "coupled". This stuff is

Not sure if you have covered the topic before, but if you did a Bump & Run / Rule Of 12 type video it would be awesome. Some of what you discussed here looks to describe some issues I'm having, but if I need the ball to fly 3' - 15' and roll and equal or 2-3 times the amount I would be swinging the club too much with this video.

Wow! It seems that chipping & pitching are very complex processes. Yesterday when pitching with my 56 wedge, I got the ball up in the air, but my problem(even with short irons) is that the ball goes left of target. Maddening!

Rob, so interesting. I “accidentally” stumbled across this wrist cocking technique to get out of bunkers and has now turned a weakness into a strength. Started using this technique recently to pitch and also works great. But having trouble using it when close to green and need more runout than height. Ant thoughts on this?
