The subject of the "release" of the golf club is one filled with many outdated cliches and misinformation.
Most golfers have a very poor concept of how the release and the follow-through should work, which hampers their ability to ever truly learn how to control their golf ball with any degree of predictability.
The release should be done in such a way to help a golfer perform the three fundamentals as consistently as possible, while at the same time ensuring that they are moving in a way that minimises any unwanted stress or impact on the body.
This video will demonstrate how the Stack&Tilt GRID can help you to understand the geometry of the golf swing, and with the help of the Precision Impact Training Aid, learn to conform to that geometry and ultimately make you a better golfer.

Another great video explained in simple detail to understand. Just one question on the role of right side bend on the downswing, how it relates to the movements you described. Can a video be made on that to blend both together. Thx Steve F

Hi Rob. Another great video! I notice in this video there is no extension of the left wrist into the follow through. Just a hinge upward. A video you did from a couple of years ago regarding the wrists (using the hanger training aid) has the left wrist cupping or extending, and forearms supinating into the follow through. Are both forms of release correct? Thank you!

Rob, thanks for all this info, your content always helps me. For this video, would it be safe to say to never roll your wrists until it gets into an upward radial deviation?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
You certainly don’t need to roll the wrists if you have the face closed enough at impact.

Rob, another great video full of value. QQ - i’m tending to do a push fade (rather than a push draw as per your and the typical S&T shots) with this follow through. Clearly I’m doing it wrong so welcome any tips or checkpoints you could suggest? Many thanks and appreciate all you’re doing for the community
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Sounds like you need to close the club face to reduce the "slice" portion of your shots. Make sure you have the club face in position at P6 as per the recommendation in this video.
@CRCCPastor
@CRCCPastor Месяц назад
Rob, are you actively releasing the right arm through impact? Should we feel "pulling or pushing" or neither?
@MichaelSeverini
@MichaelSeverini Месяц назад
Rob, great video and something I’ve struggled with since using the S&T method. By not using my wrists on the follow through I now tend to block or slice the ball. In video my clubhead is closed on the backswing and in a good position. However at impact I can clearly see the club face is slightly open to the path. Logic would seem to say that I need to be closing the club face on the downswing with my wrists. I’ve got my weight forward and following the arc…I think so what else might I be missing that is resulting in the club face being open at impact? Thank you.
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Hi Michael. It sounds like the club face does need to be more closed, you can do that with the extension or the trail wrist (twisting the shaft) to close the face.
@MichaelSeverini
@MichaelSeverini Месяц назад
@@robcheneygolf1 Thank you and you answered my next question which is does the lead wrist or trail hand make the adjustments? I’ve found when I try and twist using my lead wrist I tend to pull out resulting in over the top. I’ll go is on my trail hand releasing more.

I have a couple of questions you may help me with : What exactly are you releasing Where does this release take place When does the release begin and end And is this arc take place on the ground. Thanks indeed and cheers
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Hi Fred. 1. Releasing the club head and shaft past the body 2. It’s happening all the time, but this video refers mostly to the bottom part of the arc (just before to just after impact) 3. Throughout the entire downswing and into the follow-through 4. The arc is in the air

@rob- I really struggle with a hook when i try to release the club around my body...any ideas? possibly just pulling the club with a super shut club face?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Likely CLOSING the face via too much twisting as you try to move the hands/club around the body. Try feeling like you hinge the wrists UPWARDS to keep the face more open as you do the follow-through.
@chrisfaliao4675
@chrisfaliao4675 Месяц назад
I have the forward shaft lean but I’m fading/slicing my shots too much, does this mean I need more body rotation to close off the club face or perhaps release a little earlier?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
You’d likely do well to twist the face more closed and keep the same shaft lean.

I can trace the arc with short clubs,but when the club gets longer I end up swinging more out and rolling the club face. What’s the best drill to use to work with a longer clubs?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Place a tee or a glove under your trail arm and hold it (squeeze it) in place throughout the swing, especially in the follow-through. 👌🏻

There are past and present tour level players who are right arm and hand power players. They HIT the ball with their right side. A near tour level pro named David Knighton in Florida can hit the ball about 300 yards with his right hand only on the driver. His two handed swing looks absolutely effortless. But he will tell you. "I am hitting really hard with my right arm". He uses very little leg action. David claims to have tried every swing there is and likes the right side swing the best. I followed him at Bay Hill where he almost made the U.S. Open final cut. He can play. One time he continued playing with a broken left arm in a cast hanging from his neck. And he hit one long par 5 in 2. Missed the putt. Did not work for me.

@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
There's certainly more "throw" with the driver due to the faster club head speed. It would also depend on your current ball flight shape and whether you need more DRAW or more FADE pieces in your swing.

Rob, this video should have been about ensuring your wrists turn correctly at impact. This came across as a training aid promotion, I’m not interested in buying this training aid. Please concentrate on teaching not advertising.
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 Месяц назад
Hi, Stuart. Sorry you felt that way. For this part of the swing (which is happening extremely quickly), I find the majority of golfers have little to no idea what is moving or releasing. Having a device that can expedite the learning and help someone to do better, faster is what good training aids can facilitate. I do understand not everyone will be interested in the product, but I try to find a balance between explaining the benefits of the device and the regular teaching/education component. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I hope you will find more value in future videos on the channel.

@@robcheneygolf1 thanks Rob, I do find your videos helpful, but this one seemed very much like an advertisement for a very expensive aid.
