Should Your Church Start a Discord Server?

Facebook, Instagram, even Twitter can’t hold a candle to the environments and tools Discord gives its users to grow closer with one another. If your church or ministry is honestly interested in creating an online space where congregants can meet with each other, pray for each other, worship together, even just laugh together, I believe that Discord is something you should be checking out. We use Discord at my church for camera operators, security, greaters, children's ministry etc. I made our server last month 😁 the hardest part is selling the name "discord".

I'd suggest just calling it your "online campus" that HAPPENS to be on a platform called Discord. Though I'd agree, it is a hurdle...

@@Blackbar that could be easy ..Isaiah 5:20 Living Bible 20 They say that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right; that black is white and white is black; bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. Maybe discord can assist The Church in getting on one accord? like non fiction .

I’ve been interested in doing this, do users provide their own phone or do you provide a fire tablet or raspberry pi for your A/V team.

We have android Trac phones mounted on the camera, with vmix tally and Discord running in a split screen app. We found one ear headsets that have a microphone toggle on the cable. We set discord to voice activity so when you toggle the microphone button on the cable to on it will activate your mic in the discord server.

Thank you so much! I have been using Discord for a long time for gaming, and only recently moved our youth to discord. This motivates me to do even more for the rest of the congregation!

Hoping to have a discord server for youth pastors and people serving in youth ministry. Started a server for my youth group about two years ago and it has been great.

One suggestion! Make the server you were showing into a template so churches can build on what you've shared. This can be done through the server settings.

Sounds great 😁 👍 Thank you, I like this. From Admin point of view.. what happens if numerous people setup usernames that are 'generic'? How do you and others know who people are? Any tips?

You could probably go about it one of two ways: 1. Just ask them! If they're part of your congregation, they shouldn't have a problem revealing who they are. 2. Maybe make a "real names only" rule in your discord server. Users are able to set up a nickname in each server they're in, (and you can even change it for them) so it shouldn't be too hard to get everyone on the same page.

The fact that pastor could send a message and literally everyone will get a notification for it by just addressing it to @everyone as opposed to hoping everyone saw a post on Facebook is awesome.
