It was a thing between my friends and I back when that song was big that his album was just Mambo No. 1 through 12. I was disappointed when I finally looked at the back of the CD in Media Play or Circuit City or wherever I was.
I'd agree with that. First example that I thought of is To pimp a butterfly, one of the best albums of all time and definitely Kendricks best. But I listen to GKMC much more.
I knew he was listening based off his last album review, but NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS would I have expected them to land at NUMBER 2 FOR THE YEAR. This is a monumental moment for Twiggy fans everywhere.
@@timmy5876 when one of the biggest, if not the biggest, music critics of the day says that a band with mixed success is their 2nd most listened to of the year and has their most listened to album of the year, yeah it’s kind of a big deal
Third Eye Blind's debut is one of the catchiest, most fun, most surprisingly profound albums from its era. This year I fell deeply in love with The Background in a way I never had before, but that often happens to me with different tracks off that album.
Melon, this is a clear cop out. Your yearly resolution should be to make two separate accounts; one for making videos and another for casual listening. You've got one year to make this right
"Lana Del Rey at number 11 I've really been enjoying that new LP", for a 78 min record, 468 min spent listening to her means you've listened to the album around 5 times, I'm impressed tbf.
It's so intimate to see someone's playlist. What they're groovin' and movin' too. I thank you for being brave. I hate showing people what I'm really, really listening to sometimes just because I'm prolly insecure or something. Anyways yeah. No biggie. I've been listening to the Lemon Twigs since I first saw this and I totally understand why. It's like the best of that pocket of time that mini era within an era condensed. Like The Carpenters and 70's Stevie had a with a lil disco flair done by the son of the lead singer of REO Speedwagon. It slaps. Hard.
@@Nichwar19 Nope. It screens the audience for meatheads, idiots, and homophobes, and as someone who has been to a few Queens shows, I can attest to the fact that it works like a charm.
Yooo! Third Eye Blind representation, let’s go ✨ Really would love to see a classic review of their debut record someday I said this on the short too, and I’ll say it again here, always a joy seeing Cass Elliot-her music got me through a rough time and it still feels me with a sense of excitement every time I hear her voice
I would not lend too much faith to the stats apple provides. For myself and many of my friends. the statistics seemed impossibly off in many areas. The most egregious example from mine was that the was a classical piano compilation album that I skimmed through once at most and Apple Music claims that I listened to it 22 times. It was one of my most listened to albums this year, apparently.
@jaycyclondo1848 wtf are you on? I didn't even listen to the album once all the way through. Compared to other albums that I had on repeat for most of the year.
Pink Floyd was on my top artists as well and they were my #3 pick, they're still one of my favourite bands and a big reason why I wanted to play guitar and plus they're just a great classic band (I also just picked up a copy of The Wall from a record store I went to with a friend of mine, which is an absolute favourite album of mine) so it made me happy to see that Anthony and I both listened to them
The lemon twigs at #2 makes me happy. I discovered that record because of you, and now they're at #2 for me too 3 out of 5 of my most listened songs this year are from their new album
the entire album is worth a listen, cause each song has something to offer, but here are a couple of my favourites: - Any Time Of Day: great chords and harmony. That last chorus is probably the biggest highlight on the album for me personally. - In My Head: great chords (again), super catchy, relatable lyrics these next two arent the most popular tracks on the album, but i personally like them a lot: - Born To Be Lonely: interesting chord progression (i just really like harmony), the way it switches to a waltz in the chorus is pretty cool. I love the string arrangement too. - New To Me: apparently this track is about Alzheimer, and i have family member with dementia, so that makes this track special to me. I also like singing along with the harmonies. The topic of forgetting everything but still being in love is beautifully sad and its a real thing
It would be cool to see a video like this every year to see what u listen to casually year to year, maybe on a different account to an account for reviewing if money allows? Would be like a different kind of list week
I would really love to see fontano start a music platform of some sort. I am one of those indie artists that he is protecting all the time in his videos, that got zero to no exposure on his music and would really love if i had someone like him behind my back when releasing music. Anyways I am grateful that at least someone is speaking out about the discrepancies in the music industry!!! ❤
Queens at #5? Even though you weren't all that impressed with In Times New Roman? Well how's about that? This makes my day! Hell, my year! (FYI, Queens came in at #1 on my Spotify Wrapped, albiet for the latest record rather than older ones). Long live the Queens!! 🤟🤘🤟
Glad to see Anthony go back to The One off the lemons twigs album from a few years ago, I was the the show where they played that song for the first time ever and I’ve always adored it
I just rewatched your episode with H3 from this January and you and Ethan talked about that debut third eye blind album being really good so I guess it checks out 😂
@@Adrian-fo4kv it is though, listening to music to review is not the same way most people listen to music normally. It's way more mentally taxing to sit there and listen to an album like 3 times in a day, each time having to pay attention to it all the way through than to just put on a record and casually listening to it.
I listened to 2,051 artists this year, so not too far behind fantano. My 2 top songs were both from Jakey 🐶(pine barrens and drive off a bridge). Top 2 artists Max Richter and TWRP. I like a good variety💃
Third Eye Blind's debut album sits on the same pedestal as Garbage's Verson 2.0 and Fion Apple's Tidal as perfectly executed and infinitely listenable late 90's records. I used to deliver flowers and left my CD book in the van and my friend drove for a bit and came to me gobsmacked at how amazing it is. He assumed it was bubble gum pop or something because of Semi-Charmed Life. Their 2nd album Blue is also very good.
The fact that I don’t know any of his top 5 listening Artists either shows how uneducated I am on the trending music these days or shows what a „special“ taste 40-something year old melon is having.
Melon’s Replay minutes look like someone’s Pokémon Center who has a ton of Pokémon at level 10 while everyone else has a six Pokémon team of level 70s and higher
Dude, queens of the stone age came up in my top listens this year too. Mostly Rated R but some Like Clockwork... Maybe consider doing a Kyuss album for classic albums week especially, if you've recently been on a qosta kick
I've listened to 1,596 artists, 2,378 albums, and 6,252 tracks. 15,127 total track listens. Unsure of how many minutes. Granted, I work in a kitchen and I'm often in charge of our Bluetooth speaker for 3-5 hours at a time four-five days a week, so it'd be a lot less if it was just my solo listening.
@@24eu Oof, that's a tough one lol If we're talking 2023 releases, album-wise it's probably a toss up between Yeule, Sufjan, or Youth Lagoon. Honorable mentions to Cattle Decap, Tomb Mold, and Billy Woods. Favorite track is easily Cyber Meat by Yeule, I'm helplessly addicted to it If we're talking this year in general, my favorite (and most listened) album's been Jawbreaker's 24hr Revenge Therapy, and my favorite track is hands down Dillinger Four's Doublewhiskeycokenoice
Honestly valid I wouldn’t w thought this would be crazy topster/rym coded and cringe but it really isn’t. Seeing third eye blind and viagra boys up there made me happy, both massively underrated, especially teb’s self titled. And qotsa as always. De La Soul too. Don’t often or always agree with fantano’s reviews but I can respect and get behind this kind of top ten.
I feel like there’s definitely something off with Apple Music’s minutes tracking. I’ve independently checked mine then compared to the updates and it just doesn’t track. Like for Anthony that’s only 2.2 hour a day and considering he puts out an album review a day and he’s listening to every Album at least twice we’re already at 80/136 a day and that’s probably the minimum for a review then he’s said before that music is the things that primarily occupies background sound and workout material as well. Just seems very off On top of that he’s doing single every week and why you no review often up it’s at a minimum of like 95 minutes of work based listening a day and I’d be shocked if he only had 40 minutes of personal listening each day
That's interesting when you listen to so much music even some of your top artists only got like 6-8 hours of listening time. Interesting to see Lemon Twigs so high. I liked that one at first and then forgot all about it. I was at over 1,200 albums too and only listen to the full album so I think I beat Fantano on full albums listened to. I also hit 100,000 minutes in august so I listened to more than twice the minutes. I am now the busiest music nerd because I have a fulltime job on top of listening to music. I just listen to music most of the day at work too.
@fantano 5652 artists, 10846 songs, ~95k minutes listened. I go to 2 or 3 concerts per week from local bands, so I find them on spotify before seeing them perform. I also curate my algorithm with absurdly long (15+hrs) moody/themed playlists. What i've found is that this curation helps the algorithm to suggest more local indie music artists that are actively touring. Rate my top artist? (1) Tennis (2) Jack Johnson (3) Taylor Swift (4) Post Nebbia (5) Caroline Rose 2:39
