Hey Tommy. You don't need to go down that route. Check out b2 audio and spend your money there. Check out the power output at low voltage max 15 volt. Jeez even with engine off at 12.1 volt you can get 6.5 kilo watt. :-)

I have a 09 BMW and I have been told that they are known to pull more voltage from the battery then other cars. I’m wanting to get the full 14.4 V to my rockford R2 1200x1 so I am able to keep my system stable at 1 ohm. I have a 10 Farad Car Capacitor but it seems like I’m still pulling too much energy. am I doing too much or is there something I can do to level the voltage throughout my system and vehicle out?

You have amplifiers at 2640w but at 75% efficiency will consume 3520w, So for XS Power, you can fit a D series under the hood and an additional XP3000 in the back. That can be about 200aH total. So at least a 200A alternator will do you great. 0awg will carry about 200-250A So it is at the limit of those 2 amps but will work. Make sure its copper OFC.

Hi, I have a 12volt battery and I recently changed my alternator which was a 14 volt to a 12volt alternator. I have a 2005 Chevy uplander. Now my car reads charging system failure and the battery light is on. Lights go on and off while driving but car does not stop. If u look up my car it says its a 12 volt. Why is my car acting weird? How do I fix it? Any advise would help... Thanks in advance!

Could you run a XS Power lithium ion battery in parallel with a acid lead battery. Like leaving your stock battery under the hood and use a lithium battery in the trunk for your stereo in parallel. Or don't mix them. Also are these XS Power batteries straight drop in's. Isn't lithium batteries need a slow charge. And wouldn't the alternator damage them. Also lastly does these lithium batteries have protection circuits in them for over charging.

It may confuse others by adding a 14V charger in the diagram. What about grounding when running 2 different voltages off one alternator? Must run all grounds directly to their specific batteries? 2.) And I assume it's safe to use an AGM 12V under the hood and Yinlongs in the back (15.5V) when the AGM runs the vehicle and the LTO runs the system by using your diagram (stepdown). My Ford with smart charging doesn't like the 15.5 V bcuz I noticed the PCM Adjustable Voltage Regulator shows 15v but my Forscan shows the PCM reaching as high as 16.7V! It's as if the duty cycle is off. Wish thru Forscan I could disable smart charging. (2011 Ford Edge SEL 16kW 155.5dB Street Class unlimited setup 2 15" Fi NEO 4.11) as shown on my RU-vid channel by clicking on my profile photo. Thanks guys!

Question.....I have a trailblazer I6 Lt running 2 Orion hcca 12" running at 1 ohm with matching orion hcca D5000 D amp not the red one but the gray one I want to replace my secondary battery from an optima red top to xs battery or blockshakers or whatever else but red top but confused on what to get have not done a big 3 or upgraded Alt yet what son you suggest???

I have 2 hcca 8000.1ds running 4 hcca 15s and a hcca 2000.4 for mids and highs I have a mechman 270 amp alt ,12 -22 amp hour agm’s and a 100 amp hour lithium and it still ain’t enough drops into the 11s at near full power I say you need at least 5 14volt batteries and a good alt

I drive a 2000 chevy 2500 old body style and I'm daily confident that it would have no problem running a full 14v system but I'm worried that my kids and highs amp (skar skv2 100.4) won't be able to handle 16.8v... do you have any info on these amps whether or not they can handle the extra voltage... thanks

hey i added a 270 amp mechman in my 02 tahoe, added a half inch smaller belt also, voltage is reading 16 volts now and the alternator is a direct oem connect. got big 3 upgrade, and extra yellow top in the back.

I got a 2009 Ford Fusion with a stock alternator. I have a skar RP 2k with 2 sundown EV3 12 D4’s wired to 1 ohm. I have one 12 volt under the hood and the amp is in the trunk. Can you help me with proper wiring to run the amplifier?!!! I’d greatly appreciate it!!

It depends on the power level you want. What is the combined amplifier output capabilities? Base the battery bank off of that power then you base the alternator output on the combined capacity of the batts.

Does having multiple batteries help to keep the voltage up or is it all about the alternator? for example I have DC 2k that takes 200A, stock battery and alternator and my volts drop below 11. Is my amp not getting the power it needs to? Car Audio is life for me so i would really appreciate the help

bigger alternator will help u keep up the voltage atleast at 13.0-12.8 volts on full tilt playing systems, ur stock alternator wont supply the demand that the amplifier is asking for, i went from stock low 11s from a singer 250A and up to 13's with a 6500 watt amp, wired at .35 ohm load. meaning bigger alternator will help, i do have 4 rear batteries but that helps provide amp hours for the amps, the alternator helps charge up the voltage in general back to a safe voltage hence, 12.6-14.4V +

ChiterV yes, you are dropping too low and are straining your amp. It's a good amp, but Korean line my Crescendo 4500, you need to upgrade your alternator, and maybe get one good battery in the back and your amp will make so much more power. Hope probably getting 2/3 of the power that amp is capable of... Like my Crescendo, I believe your amp is rated @14.4v, and will probably do at least 2400 watts, if it's stable @18v and you can get your current up to 16-18, you could probably get 3k+ before nix rise and all the current lost traveling from the front to the back. So having a nice amp is great, but that amp will make power but needs it as well. First do the big three upfront, then email a good h/o alternator company and tell them what your working with and they will help. Hope I helped you out. I'm still trying to gather everything to run a Crescendo 4500 @ half ohm @ 16+ volts so I can push my two BRAND NEW FI AUDIO BTL 18'S😆. The 2017 Neo model. Excited.

ChiterV yeah, any time you drop below 12, you are trying to get too much power from your stock electrical. I would do the big three, and then upgrade your alternator to the biggest one you can, especially if you plan to upgrade. Also get a good battery under the hood, and a battery for the back as a reserve and you will be a lot louder!

is there anything stopping someone going the other way around and using a step up from a normal alt to charge a 14v isolated battery system? saves changing the alternator but if you were to change it maybe some type of dual voltage alternator would be better...

hi i , i hope you can help me , have a 1989 chevy astro van i want to put 16 v sx batts in the back and 12v in the front , i have ac and i dont want to take it off ,will the sx power step down work for me, and how many do i need ,i see they are rated 25 amp continuous and 50 amp surge, and will it charge a 12v batt,thank you for any help you can give me ,

Depends on the batteries but you would most likely need more of them. A battery setup for 12k-15kw will need about 500A of alternators to charge them at a good rate.

@@slowbrezze I didn't do anything, I run it at around 14.4v until I want it loud loud then I'll turn the voltage up to 16V. I'm tired of it though bcuz charging warning keeps going off. I'm tempted to return to factory voltage and buy amps that put out full power at 12.8v-14v and get rid of my yinlongs and S6, replacing with Max90 batteries. www.youtube.com/@lowhertzhighspl

Hey ed i have a 05 silverado v6 my amplifers fuse ratings are a total of 1150 amps. How many alts and batts will i need if i keep my stock alt on the 12v side with its own dedicated batt just for my cars every day needs and i run a seperate 14v sustem dedicated to my stereo. Can you please give me advice on how to run the system meaning if i just upgtade the whole car to 14v. You can keep stock if your stock alt is externally regulated. You may have to modify it and add a new regulator.

I’m running two dual 2ohm Skar Audio zvx V2 1500 watts rms each I have a Skar Audio rp 3500 1D I have them wired in series being that them amp is only 1ohm stable. I’m running them at 2 ohms rms at two ohms 2300 watts rms big 3 upgrade sundown audio 1/0 wire red tap dry cell under the hood and a XS power XP3000 my voltage sets at 13.7 to get the 2300 watts I have to be at 14.4 when I’m riding and playing it it stays around 13.3, 13.4 what should I do oh yeah I do have a stock alternator so what could I do to improve

Another battery. Many drag cars get rid of the alternator because they have multiple 14-16v batteries. Alternator will slip at high rpms and sometimes might not charge fast enough so an extra battery is needed to garuntee you maintain your target voltage. LithiumPros batteries are nice imo

Sort of. Depending on the manufacturer, amplifier power ratings can be misleading. They test their amps on a test bench and not in the actual environment that you use it in. If a factory alternator charges at 14.4v, you will never see power at that voltage. This is because any load at all will make voltage drop from that point. So at the very least, you get that 14.4v rating for the first split second you start playing it.

Wicked_Awesomee you can add a second alternator. of 14-16 volts nominal. with the 14 or16 volt battery in rear. share the ground to body/ frame. but you must run the alt pos output to batt only. then batt to amp only. and the remote turn on should be OK!

You're going to need way more than 6... I don't remember the suggested watts per D16, but I think it's 1000-1200 per battery.

If they are externally regulated, you can add an adjustable voltage regulator. If they are regulated by the car's computer, you cannot.

Radio Shack buy 2 .06 ohm resistors and run in parallel on alternator regulator. $4 dollars cost total and some priceless research

I dont think there are any stock alternators that large. Most are 80-120A. What car is it? A 100ah batt with a 150A alt will be good for about 2000w. But that depends on what type of battery. If it's a higher voltage battery or more CA, it can give more power but for a shorter time.

Only I dont like about 14v batteries is that they dont make them to run systems as strong as 12 volt batteries from what I've seen. I mean it would take 4 of those batteries to do what one d7500 can do.

Every car is different, some take 17V. But you have a 12v battery and should not go over 14.5v or you risk damaging that battery.

Any AGM batt should not be charged past 2.4v per cell. A 12v batt has 6 cells making the limit 14.4v

There really is no such thing as a step up used for these applications. Reason is current. Any step up/down module would be limited in it's current capacity. And when you raise voltage, you decrease current output. So the best method has always been to raise regulator voltage and step down from there. The step downs are used to split and create dual voltage outputs. Doing 2 separate voltages from 1 alt would require more windings and the physical size would become too large and run too hot.

there is a easier solution ... buy just a few hundreds stronger amp. You will save much more money. This solution is limited of course for max stock car (alternator-battery) power but it will work. Upgrading an alternator and batteries is for much more needed for a serious amount of power ;-)
