Nobody knew the space between utterly disgraceful and painfully embarrassing was hilarious until Ricky Gervais took us there.

Its amazing how well this has aged. Still feels fresh, funny and relevant. Probably will in another 20 years.

I once had a boss like Brent. Same hair, same beard, same age, always arsing around, cracking jokes and trying to be funny. He even said he was more of an entertainer than a boss. This was about a year before The Office came out. When it did and all his staff were laughing at him, he failed to see the connection.

There are too many subtle bits to mention throughout the office, but the way Brent stands up prematurely and has to sit down again, along with the glance at his watch when Neil's stealing his limelight always get me in the first scene. Never gets old

Man, Ricky's acting is incredible during when he's pleading to not be made redundant.

“I’m not gay, in fact I’ve never come over a little queer”. Imagine it was for real and your boss said that in a welcoming meeting. It’d be off the scale hilarious

People seem to overlook the writing and directing genius of Stephen Merchant. Him and Ricky together were brilliant. The office is the greatest comedy ever committed to film and can never be beaten. Ricky’s acting was utterly sublime and completely unmatched by anyone.

Crook's delivery of "i havent got it on me, but when youre next in" was brilliant

Love it when Gareth is giggling away to the joke Brent is telling again to the bosses 😂

All these years later this is still as cringeworthy , not a lot on the telly now that can match this , absolutely brilliant in every respect

Brent referring to Glynn as "Taffy" for Neil's benefit is a yet another subtle touch of genius.

Having David break the moment he shakes on his redundancy deal is one of the hallmarks of the genius of this series.

Honestly how do they not die of laughter during this literally in tears. The scene with Gareth is just phenomenal.

Unbelievable that having endured David Brent for all this time RG can bring us round to feel huge sympathy for him in an instant during the redundancy scene. Quite brilliant acting.

The "Whats your biggest disapointment"? "Altern Towers". That had me giggling.

The last corporate presentation I went to had a pause for us all discuss how wonderful a 0.22% increase in employee engagement over the past 12 months was. David Brent would have been a big improvement on that one!

what I find most interesting about this show is how people interpret the characters so differently. Some see Brent as self serving, ignorant, egotistical others are more sympathetic, see him as just wanting to be liked etc. Also the Neil arc is interesting, how in earlier episodes he seems quite fair, charming, but later picks at David, mocking him with Chris Finch. Was that just Neil having enough of Brent's antics or was he enjoying the fall from grace? I don't see Lee as a bad guy either, in fact he was pretty patient around the fact Tim was after his girlfriend, I just thought he wasn't the right fit for Dawn, he was just a bloke, well meaning enough, but some make him the villain. Its pretty well done, there's no real answer, hero or villain, just a lot of grey areas. I dont think anyone was the real hero of the show personally, not even Tim who seemed to get joy from mocking a person that wasn't as socially aware or smart as he was. Just a great piece off work all round, ageless.

Its the Arctic silences that reign supreme....Can you imagine this with a laughter track over it? It would make it at least 75% less funny. Genuis from start to finish

I remember watching this when it first aired and to think that I am now the same age Neill is in this series and the fact that I'm older than the majority of the main cast during the time of filming is truly depressing

The multiple times I've watched the Brent dance before I've never noticed Rachel bursting out laughing (at 26:54). That definitely was not supposed to happen as by that stage everyone had their horrified faces on. It's fun to see it slipped through.

I met Neil Godwin in central London 2 years ago. He was an Incredibly friendly guy. I was in a shop and he asked the shop keeper for directions to some gig he was doing, I had to stop him and shake his hand🎉🎉🎉

This show is always hilarious, no matter how many times I watch it. I've worked with so many people like David and others. All the awkward moments were so hilarious.

as annoying as gervais has become, he gave, arguably the greatest comedy performance ever put to film by playing brent, absolute genius!

You can almost see Patrick Balladi biting his cheek to stop himself laughing when Ricky stands up in the Bernie Clifton ostrich costume. That had to be a scene with multiple takes.

One of the funniest comedy's for me in fact most things with Ricky Gervais are funny.

I honestly don’t get the American remake. I just can’t see the point in taking something this perfect and trying to do it again.
