Regarding the sausage discussion, in the vast majority of the world when you say "sausage" you mean the sausage you just got. The ground sausage you mean can only be found in America.

The ground sausage can be found in Italy too, the sausage that he got in Italy is called “Würstel” and we usually don’t eat it. We prefer the grounded one
It's raw uncured italian sausage on American pizzas, available everywhere. In many other countries, though, the word sausage means smoked or cured sausage, which includes hot dogs, which is what he got.

From my understanding, a grandma pie has a crust like a Sicilian pizza, with the toppings of a Margherita pizza- mozzarella, crushed tomatoes, basil (the ones I've had have a strong garlic taste as well)
