The worst thing with these drivers is that their lack of trade plates might mean they’re not insured which is very bad. Apart from that though, this is a very long and unremarkable video.
They will be insured, Trade plates only cover road tax and nothing else, they work for BCA who fully insured every vehicle that goes out on the road in their name. Also every vehicle I used to drive had MOT (or was exempt). Basically a set of Trade plates shows the police or DVSA that the vehicle has no road fund licence but is exempt for the purposes of this journey which is either for delivery or for modification (in this case delivery).
The other vehicles most likely are insured hence no trade plates. The trader is the guy with ! The trade plates so he doesn't have to go through the bother of having the vehicle insured an tax the normal way... When those vehicles are delivered am sure the vehicle he was inn will have its own proper documentation when its on the site of delivery
if you drive or not, the other people on the road are expected to drive to a certain standard and the two guys featured in the video are putting both other drivers and passengers at risk the uploader has good reason to be angry since his and the publics safety is being put it risk
Driving is no pleasure these days. A lot of people don't use indicators, overtake on roundabouts and hit roundabouts much too fast. There is intimidation if you're not driving as fast as the person behind wants to go, ignoring of speed limits and general idiocy. There are too many cars and too many idiots. Rant over!!
Not the worst driving I have seen. They didn't appear to be breaking the law other than by not having trade plates in rear of vehicle. Traveling along at 50mph alongside each other isn't breaking the law!!
The lead vehicle might of needed trade plate but the other 2 could of been legal. Looking how they’ve got number plates, plus you legally insured between the trade plats and there not hgv’s you goon
Maybe the two without the trade plates were insured ? You can get temporary insurance on a phone call for anything today to be honest lv seen a lot worse
The number of dedicated traffic police was drastically reduced around 30 years ago when Mr GATSO CAMERA came along but unfortunately they still can't identify a driver who's licence arrived in a Christmas cracker 😢
I have been driving for 51 years, most mileage on motorways. Your video certainly does not show the worst, bad yes but not the worst The worst driving I have seen is urban where the speed limits are 30 - 40MPH. The drivers in your video footage maybe driving with UC&A, that is for the police to decide. The prevalent bad driving in my experience is driving to speed limits not condition. Some motorist adopt an attitude of, 'Its 40 so I'm doing 40 its 30 so I'm doing 30', when the conditions demand a much slower speed. Casing point when a village has a carnival and the there are children meandering everywhere and some bonehead drivers think its appropriate to travel to the signed speed limit when a much slower speed is called for. Appreciate the post but it is certainly not the worst I've seen.
You say they are holding up the traffic, and yet they’re in a contra flow at 50 mph and seem to be keeping up the same speed as those in front. Also there’s nothing wrong in being in the fast lane ( which would be known as lane three by the way) if they are doing the speed for that lane, which again is 50. Yes they are goons for their driving style, but not everything you state is consistent or correct.
That is how idiots in the UK drive. That is why multiple pile-ups happen. Cars nowadays are so safe that people do not recognise danger when it is right in front of their eyes.
A friend of mine was "rounded up" from his pub by a guy offering cash to deliver ten new transit vans - cash in hand. No sat nav, follow my leader, through red lights, frightening roundabout entries etc to be sure they didn't get lost. On delivery four of the vans were damaged, one quite badly. If you see a convoy of identical vehicles, trafe plates or not, leave the road and go for a coffee!
Too many idiots on the road today, I will be honest when I was a youngster I was a tosser on the road but I sat down one night and had a thought about what my actions could do to another quite a sobering experience tbh but since that day I have always driven to the best of my abilities yes I still make far and few between errors but I always apologise if I’m in the wrong and respect my fellow road user. I hate seeing idiots like this really grinds my gears but I try and keep plenty of space to avoid being caught up in their stupid behaviour.
I’m confused! If you don’t drive, what qualifies you to comment? The moment they held up traffic and actually spoke to each other was pretty stupid but nothing else I saw would I consider dangerous driving. Pretty mundane stuff. As a professional driver, I see far worse than this on a daily basis.
Police won't be interested in this I reported a drink driver and I think allow it they weren't interested so I will never ever report anything I see again ever.
Apart from one just going over the white line a couple of times, they really aren't as bad as a lot of drivers I've seen. They wasn't tailgating anyone which is my pe hate, they didn't speed, and the lane changing was no different to your van. If you think they were bad drivers, you obviously don't get out much. 😂😅
You are right to point this out and hopefully some education for the drivers will come from it. However based on the footage and your comments, please tell me you were not holding you iPhone to film whilst driving.
I thought so too, but the rules say not (www.gov.uk/trade-licence-plates/rules) which also say they must be displayed outside the vehicle, so windscreen / back window are a no-no.
Trade plates are not necessarily needed to cover the existing reg plates ( if any) as long as they are visible front & rear clearly. If you are still unsure try checking the legality of these trade plates & where they are ment to be. I MAYBE wrong on my positioning of them but, please don't take my word i am only going by my last checking of them ( quite some years ago) & things might have changed since. So please don't take my word for it. Do your own checking on it.
Check the rules on DVLA is for displayed on front and back on vehicle so it can be clearly visible. It is for tax and insurance purposes not for registration use.
The law states - How to display your trade plates When you display trade plates, you must: put them on both the front and back of the vehicle, or just the back for motorcycles make them visible and easily readable from a distance of 20 metres put them on the outside of the vehicle not cover the existing number plates, unless it’s a motorcycle
This is what angers most of us honest trade plate drivers. I see a lot of these convoys where there's a social hierarchy, and they strangely fear overtaking the lead driver, thus causing absolute "May-hem" in their wake. Obviously an independent whose got a couple of his mates from the pub to help him out, hence just the single set of plates. Click Cardel of Derby springs to mind. They like to send their drivers out with one plate, then sack them when they get caught! There's a quick buck to be made in this game, hence the prolific amateurism. Inevitably they soon get brought to a screeching halt by Bang, Crash, Accident... or BCA as they like to be known!
Agree. I done a double check on how many vehicles can be driven under 1 pair of trade plates...result came back as only ONE vehicle per trade plate...fine for mis-use of trade plate...£5000....wander if the offending drivers have got overdrafts with there bank accounts.
@flipper2392 Trade Plate E7735 belongs to BCA at Thurleigh Airfield just outside Bedford. I have used that plate myself a few years ago when I did a few jobs for them. They are a shyster Company and all their drivers are self employed and "negotiate" for the work (read that as lowest "bidder" wins the job). I left them in a very short time and went to drive for a much better company that was actually reputable! The way it works with BCA you have to have a driving licence for more than 3 years, have less than 6 points and be over 25 thats all the requirements. All 3 of those drivers would be BCA subbies and will have probably worked together before at some point. They definitely won't be "his mates from the pub helping him out". Also they won't have HGV licences and wont need them for those vehicles as the OP suggested. Those vans are well withing the 3500kg normal driving licence range. All 3 will have been issued with Trade Plates but probably forgot them, they only cover road fund licence anyway nothing else, but they should still be displayed front and rear. I agree these idiots need to at the very least lose their jobs (which they will if the OP sends this to BCA at Thurliegh). BCA won't report this to the police because its in their interests not to as they dont want the police sniffing around their drivers and business practices.
You talk about Trade plates all the time , it may have only been the one vehicle that needed them , the other two may have been taxed and registered already , have you checked that ?
Seen a gang of those exact same Chassis fuelling up at Severn View services so i assume theynget shipped into Avonmouth. 10 mins later they passed me on the M5 in a convoy all about 5 yards apart, 6 of them running up the motorway like a snake. Accident waiting to happen.
These are brand new chassis cabs on the way to have a flatbed / tipper / buck or whatever fitted. The actual vehicles are roadworthy , it is the drivers that are not.
These are brand new chassis cabs. They're being delivered to a coachworks to have the rear bodies fitted. Once the body is on the wheels are covered. In this instance the police would take no notice. Its a non endorsable offence anyway...
After a quick google search, i discovered that If its going to have bodywork built on the chassis, in the c&u regs, there is an exception for - unfinished vehicles or trailers proceeding for completion
Well done , could be a full time occupation sending footage to Police. Motorway driving is atrocious and dangerous. LANE HOGGING, Mobile phones, ignoring red X, speeding . It’s total mayhem.Get onto the M62 Leeds to Manchester 👍👍
They are obviously brand new and not finished yet, trucks normally have truck beds or box bodies on the back, they are going to some fabrocators to be finished then registered when they have buyer sorted.. the plates though, shouldn't have been made before the registration is complete, I guess companies know the plate numbers that DVLA gave them so.can print them early, but that's probs a breach in itself..
No, vehicles on trade plates must also be insured and have valid MOTs (although these 3 are new so not due MOTs yet). the plate merely covers an exemption from road tax.
I’m a central London bus driver, I’m also a Fellow member of IAM , your toes would curl if you saw what I see also. On average I save around 4 lives every single day
Tbf I've been on them buses, if it's not the public it's the road users!!! Said for a long time I wouldn't for love nor money drive buses in Birmingham or London....... 4 lives a days an understatement!!!
They probably dont have licences or insurance, just jobbing. I have ofter seen similar behaviour with sporty car drivers, boy racers on motorways. Never seem to be any police around when you see them though.
The registration plates aren’t registered with the DVLA. Also if you’re driving a vehicle like this with no body on the back if you have to break hard as there is little weight on the back there is a danger that the vehicle was skip and hop and affect the breaking, and the stability of the vehicle
Well done for putting this one line ,thier are publically spirited ,sensible people who care for the safety of mankind still left in this crazy world ❤
You filming this with an iphone while you are driving is much more of shocking violation of driving standards than anything they did. Pay attention to your own driving and get a life.
Well done for capturing, releasing and reporting this footage. They could have easily caused a pile up. Definitely unacceptable behaviour and driving from both of these drivers. Especially driving for their jobs they should not be on the road like this.
Trade plates are only to cover Tax, not insurance; part of the registration process for new vehicles will include the first year's road tax, so it is reasonable to assume that these new, registered vehicles are in fact taxed, even if the DVLA database hasn't yet been updated.
Not so. These vehicles are most likely to be going to a commercial bodyworks and as such do not need to be taxed to be moved on trade plates. The trade plate companies pay the tax for the use of the plates. It is most likely the two vehicles drivers have trade plates, but have been to idle to display them. The DVLA database will be updated when the new keeper receives the vehicles, taxed and ready for use. The new keeper receives the first V5 certificate (the Log Book).
Not necessarily. The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 section 63 (h) provides an exemption for unfinished vehicles to be driven (legally) on a road without spray suppression (mudguards).
Every busybody’s a bloody expert. And not one of them wonders why THREE identically coloured vans with no rear bodywork are being driven in convoy. They ain’t got the sense they were born with! 😂
