Hi! I’m zone 9b too in Fresno Ca. The research I’ve done shows worms aren’t supposed to tolerate the kind of killer heat here… can get up to 112… but you are proof that worms can make it through the heat. How do you do this please? I sooo want to have a worm farm. Thanks!

My hubby gifted me Angela's Growing in the Garden perpetual calendars, one for flowers, and one for vegetables. They are amazing assets for growing in zone 9B. Angela has done all the work adapting seed packet and transplant instructions for the harsh low desert environment, and put it into a beautiful, functional format. My calendars hang on the wall right next to my desk and computer where I do my planning, but their beautiful photography and formatting on heavy stock would be lovely and inspirational anywhere in your home. Each monthly page has a "plant outside " list, seed or transplant indicated, and a "start seeds indoors" list. I couldn't garden in Mesa without these calendars (and Angela's monthly e-mails and regular videos with all sorts of tips and education for desert gardeners). Angela's calendars are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thanks Angela for provided a much-needed service. Suggestion: a local resources list would be a huge hit for locals. I'm sure that I don't know about all the local nurseries and other gardening resources in the low desert.

It’s so good to see your garden and how it fared in the heat! I’m in Tucson - and my garden was destroyed by a hailstorm about a month ago. I did some initial cleanup. But have been waiting to see what survived - turns out not much 😅. Surprisingly, most of my herbs made it. Getting ready to replant in the next few weeks.

We're in 9B just up the road from you in Black Canyon City, and the summer has been very hard on our tomatoes. We grew Sungolds from seed this year and they were doing great but then the heat started to take it's toll. Our peppers and eggplants have been getting hit by ants and rock squirrels, and few miscellaneous plants here and there are just stunted and not growing well at all. But the yard long beans are going like gangbusters right to the top of the trellis and providing a massive harvest right now, and our watermelons and herbs are also doing great. Sunflowers did amazing this year in our garden also.

I’ve been putting an ice pack on top of the worm bed, then I cover it with a box and a towel so they don’t fry in the heat. It’s quite a chore twice daily. Rough summer. Had a few cantaloupes, zucchini is not great, romas didn’t produce and my loofah plant died. Not a great summer. Too darn hot at 115-120 too many days. Love your videos!! It's spring where I am. I planted white echinacea but it was towards the end of summer and it died back fairly quickly. I was sad because it was so pretty. I knew it was perennial but I felt it hadn't had enough time to really establish itself to be able to come back again the following season, but I mulched around it and marked the spot where it had been and crossed my fingers. A few weeks ago I found the tiniest green leaf poking up and I was beside myself with excitement. Ditto for a terribly pot bound rudbeckia that I planted that rapidly died off. I'm so looking forward to seeing what else pops up in random places that I either forgot about, thought was dead, or self-seeded.
