You did an absolutely beautiful job on your pool. I have to do mine so Ive been watching the videos and you make it look much easier than some of the professionals make it look with the same product. Thank you for the tips on what not to do. You give great inspiration to all of us DIY'ers.
You are such an inspiration! After watching your video, I've decided to tackle my pool by myself. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with all of us out here!
Don’t do this to your pool sand professional to come and ship it out and re-plaster is the correct way otherwise this will fail and then they’ll charge you twice as much to replaster it because it’s horrible getting the stuff off
Awesome job man!!! Looks great! I have a small leak in my spa which is attached to the pool below. I had a guy come over and quote me over $7000 to plaster the small hole left by the repair of the leak (1 jet). He said it would need the entire (6 Person) spa to be redone. I told him we were going to sell the house but he insisted. When he left I thought..."This dude just insisted his way out of a job!" LOL! After seeing how nice of a job you did...I'm all in on doing it myself. Once again... your pool looks like it was done by a professional! Congrats...:)
I’m doing the exact same thing to mine plus paint. You’re right it is some hard work and especially in the Texas heat / sun. I have no bird cage either (I’m jealous lol). Very nice work man looks great!
wow great job man! looks great! I have the same project down the pipeline sometime, my plaster still looks ok (just some discolorations), but tile is cracked already in some places. Your video is super helpful - hopefully i can do everything myself.
Great video - very helpful and reassuring that you are a satisfied customer. We have inset tiles in the floor of our hot tub. Did you need to chip some of the old plaster away from the around the tile so that when you spread the 2 coats of sider-crete on that everything was flush with the tile.
I did not. I just taped over the tiles and rolled the plaster. It may have come out better if I would have done what you are saying, but I have no regrets. I don’t think it would have been worth the work in my situation. The new plaster is not noticeably thicker or above the tiles and you definitely cannot tell with the naked eye when everything is filled with water. So I guess it’s up to your judgment.
Hi Great job. I am about to start plastering. What is working time for the plaster once it is mixed and before it becomes difficult to roll on? What did you use to get the bull nose round at the steps? Thanks Dan
I just continued to add a little water and mix the plaster as it started to stiffen up on me. I didn’t notice any negative effects, so that’s how I kept it rollable. The steps I just used the same process. Rolled on the plaster, used the squeegee to smooth it out as much as possible, then if you let it dry for like 5-10 minutes you can come back with a slightly damp sponge and get out any more imperfections.
WOWZA! Thanks for sharing you awesome restoration project. I'm in the process of researching how to do our pool. Not sure if you still see these post but, great job. I've gotten a couple quotes and they are astronomical so I will definitely be doing what you did. How much product did you use and how do I figure out how much I'll need? Our pools are very similar in shape but ours is 12' deep... Any help is appreciated.
store.sider-crete.com Call these guys: 1-888-743-3750 Tell them your pool size and how many gallons and such. They were helpful when I did mine. I ended up ordering 11 bags.
Well Done and Thanks for the Video. Did you replace the tiles in the steps? I have the same type of pool and I'm not sure if I will need to chip out the tiles in the steps and put new ones in.
I did not. I guess it all depends on your preference though. The tiles are a little lower than the plaster finish, but it is not a big deal to me so I just taped over them and kept them since they matched the color scheme. Some people might not like the look or feel of that but I guess that’s up to you.
Thanks for video, getting ready to order my Sider-Crete roll on plaster today. Any new updates on the product, on how it is holding up and would you still recommend?
Thanks for the video! Question: I am just doing this to my hot tub and I’m about to do the first coat of plaster. What tools did you use to smooth the plaster after you rolled it on where the steps in your pool are? I’m speaking about the contours around the stairs where you can’t fit the rubber float? My hot tub has so many sharper angles and I’m trying to find the best tools. Thanks!
I think my pool is around 11,000 gallons. I bought 11 bags of the actual plaster and had one bag left over. I only bought 2 bags of the repair cement and had some left over. I got all the supplies from sider-crete
Do you think we can save the already mixed sider repair until the morning? I'll call them in the morning, but wondered if you were able to with yours and use in the morning.
I don’t know. I wouldn’t recommend it. You could add water and mix it up pretty wet and then pour an additional amount of water to sit on top of it until morning. But it’s risky and it may lose its integrity doing it that way.
Yes I did the floor last. I tried some other tools rather than the roller but I found the roller to work best for me. I started in the deep end and worked my way out the shallow end steps.
I apologize for bothering you, but did you use Sider-resin coat before applying Sider repair and then plaster? We ordered plaster and repair kit but it turned out one more step needed before we start.
Yes. I used a paint brush and brushed on a coat of the resin before using the repair. Just where I needed to fill in holes and such. I did not use it before putting on the plaster.

I pressure washed and then sprayed it all with acid. However, in my opinion, it was an unnecessary step. I don’t think my pool really needed it, but that’s just my opinion.
@@alreyindustries thanks my pool is really big im looking at about 3,500 but I have had leaks here and there over the years I'm hoping this puts a stop to it
The only thing I looked for and chipped out were loose pieces of plaster around the areas of erosion AND I did have some hollow areas where the old plaster was separating/not making a good bond with the cement underneath. I went around knocking on the old plaster to hear if it sounded hollow or not. If it was, I chipped those areas out and repaired all the holes with the repair plaster before putting the final plaster on. Other than that I just rolled the new plaster right over the old.
@@alreyindustries thank you. Your water color just perfect. How long did it take to receive your order from Sider-Crete? We will need 18 kits of plaster for our pool.
@@ZoyaPetrovnaMamina I do not recall exactly how long it took from order to delivery, but it took 3 days for sider Crete to ship it from there warehouse and I’m assuming it took another week or so to get to me. Probably looking at a week to 10 days. If you call them they might give you a better idea. They were pretty kind and helpful when I called and asked a bunch of questions.
Hard to say. I would work on it after work mostly so it was a bit sporadic. Took me two to three weeks doing it that way. I’m sure if you dedicated full consecutive days to it you could get it done within a week.
$1859.42 from sider crete. That was for 11 bags of plaster, the tool kit, 2 bags of sider repair and 1 jug of the resin for the repair stuff. I probably spent $500-700 on tile, cement and grout. Then I bought a new pool light which was around $300. So between $2,500-3,000 I’d say.
@@friendofmind7859 I’m not sure exactly. If you go to the company’s website I used, sider-crete, you can call them and they are very helpful. They will tell you how much you need.
I don’t remember a whole lot of hair line cracks. I had more loose material and hollow spots. If you’re worried about the new plaster cracking too you can treat those cracks first with some crack repair compound.
@@alreyindustries Thank you. And please have mercy on your guests and yank that ugly garbage off before they see it. Replace it with something better so you don't have to worry about them talking behind your back about you having tiled your pool with tacky bottom of the line Home Depot special tiles.
