Castings look nice. Sounds like you are glad to be selling finally.

I am so glad. Honestly wasn't sure if the day would ever come. Won't be making much from it just yet but I'm getting it out there at least and seeing interest.

One way you can keep the screen clean is to mount a street sweeper, or one of those round brushes they use for cows to brush their faces, heads and backs. I know it sounds funny, but it's a real thing. I got a used one for my goats and they lived rubbing all over that thing. If you mount it on top with bearings, the bristles will poke through the holes in the screen to help clean them out. Iactually saw it on a RU-vid video about diy trommel builds. Just a thought.

You should pitch the trommel more so it goes thru faster. Plus ,slow your machine down also. Just play around with it . I have a trommel like yours ,mine is on a speed control switch

I ended up changing the pitch just yesterday and it ran much much better. The next one will definitely have speed control.

@@westmountainorganic8084 just take a the same switch that you use to slow/dim down a ceiling fan .. mine is hooked up to a hand drill and works great.. The reason your screens are clogging cause the material is to wet. You could bait the worms in a certain area to move the worms to another bed,while the castings have time to dry out more. This is where a flow thru system comes into play.. great work keep it up..🖒🖒

I was just waiting for the wheel barrow to tip over... But it didn't! I like your set up!

Thanks! I'm glad it didn't either. I'm liking the set up so far too, going to get better and more organized hopefully

If you haven't already, have a look at the flow through system, they have a better footprint and they will handle the cold better. Great content though, I enjoyed watching your process and progress

The original plan out there was a flowthrough type system but the way the sheds are built makes it hard to do. It still could happen in the future though, they are great. I have a small institutional one I convinced my work (day job) to buy so they could compost their cafeteria scraps and I love it. Maybe one day when if I have the funds I can make some adjustments to the sheds and make it happen. I'd love to fill that whole place with huge flowthrough systems if I could. Thanks again for watching!

Wish I'd seen this when it first came out. Good cast, but definitely need to reduce the RPM's.. 👍

You might want to see a video by Vermis Terra showing an attached brusher along side/top of the sifter to sweep the sticky castings as the trommel rotates. Is the inside of the trommel smooth as the pipes would be attached outside or are the pipes placed inside of the mesh? What are the dimensions of the trommel? It is fun watching your videos and keep planning how to expand my worms' adventures. Thank You!

I'll have to check that video out! I was actually thinking about doing something like that. I'm going to be watching a lot of videos before my next trommel build, I'm hoping the next one lasts a long time. Thank you for the advice and for watching!

Is Vermis Terra same as Vermisterra channel, I tried to look for which video had the brusher attached to it, but havent found it yet, thanks

Right now I'm filling just 1/2 cup sample bags. But some larger ones are coming in the next day or two.

Congrats on first commercial order! The product looks great. Do you have a schedule in mind for sifting that whole first bed? You probably don't want to rush to fulfill a large order in the future and would rather have pre-sifted wormcast ready to bag and ship. If the lab testing is affordable I'd run a test for every 'batch' as you move along the bed.

I am just going to keep sifting and filling the 350-gallon tub I have at the farm. If an order comes in that is bigger than that I might have to scramble a bit. I'm hoping to have all of the current worm bed sifted and stored somewhere where it will keep for a while by mid-march. Thanks for watching!

I think the sifter would be more efficient if you slowed it down.
@westmountainorganic8084
@westmountainorganic8084 4 года назад
Yeah the sifter needs some tuning. I did end up changing the angle yesterday and that helped immensely

do you have a temperature gun? wonder what the temp was in the spots you found worms.

I cant watch everything because of time. How many pounds do you harvest
@westmountainorganic8084
@westmountainorganic8084 4 года назад
I need to get a scale out there so I can start tracking poundage. I think in this video I harvested just under 100 pounds, that's just guessing by the end weight of the wheelbarrow though.
