*** Update (March 02, 2021) Sig has sent me a 2nd MCX Virtus and I hope to have an updated comparison review on this model in the next couple of weeks. #staytunedforairgundetectives
*** Update (November 08, 2020) I have not been able to verify any updates by Sig Sauer to the MCX Virtus PCP. Sig advised they would provide me we a newer version of the rifle to test however this has not been the case of yet.
Sig Sauer Virtus PCP amzn.to/39zlIUQ
***Update(July 14, 2020) I have been in touch with Sig and here is a brief summary of the updates:
The batch that is currently being released:
For improved accuracy they added an 11mm OD inner barrel, they also improved feed/belt mechanism. To improved the velocity they increased the inner valve and updated the trigger for a better feel.
On the next batch: All the improvement listed above in addition to the beefing up the handguard and they switched from countersunk to low-profile screws. "I hope to have one of the 2nd batch model to complete my independent review".
***Update (March 11, 2020) Recently I have been in communication with SIG Air and shared some technical feedback with the current Virtus model. SIG just advised they will be updating and improving the performance of the rifle and the newer version should be released sometime this summer. As soon as I get an updated model I will be featuring a "New" and complete review! So..."Stay Tuned for Airgun Detectives"

Is it possible to remove the tank when it's still filled? Or is there at least a method of degassing it?

One more question...two actually...were the 21 grain h&n slugs among what you tested? If so, what kind of accuracy would they get, despite the reduced velocity?

@@AirgunDetectives pyramyd air's b.b. posted about getting around 500 fps with 21 grain beeman kodiaks, but accuracy suffered too. The weight is throwing it off obviously, but I was wondering if the shape of a h&n slug with the same weight would have better results, especially considering the way it engages the grooves of the belt, and the rifling itself

This must be the best and most professional review of this gun to date. Thank you! I really appreciate very very much the effort put into finding the best suitable pellet for this gun. Most reviewers probably chosen JSBs for their reviews since JSBs apparently often kept as allround most suitable brand for target PCP rifles. This gun has gotten so much positive and negative feedback. From side to side. But I am definitely getting myself one when it gets to my local dealer. And getting of those GTOs too. The shotcount somehow seems to drop as time goes by. Steph from SIG said 200 at Shot Show, then came 150-160.. And now only 4 mags worth.. But I personally am all good with that 4 mags worth of regulated shots. And that accuracy segment's grouping was better than I expected. The trigger on these Sigs are one of their own. But I have never had anything to complain about.

@Smash Revino Glad that it is out? Oh, yes! Finally! Just wonder though the manner it has come out. Seems guys in the UK got their modded piece in their hands before even decent US videos started to come out by your everyday consumers and not just pro airgun reviewers. And yet apparently some big airgun webstores in the US are just selling out-of-stock.😁 My local airgun retailer will be importing it later in spring/summer. So getting to wait for it myself also. But that gives me time to stuble upon issues and opinions that these guys first in line gets along the way..

@@AirgunDetectives Ha! Thank you so very much for the info! Yeah.. I rarely read the descriptions of videos..😁 Rarely someone puts something significant in there - as you truly did there.. Thank you! -An upgraded version with better performance? Oh, man! The ones that are often tight on cash but still pre-ordered this one..they gotta be pissed! And think of the ones in the UK! I really gotta write my retailer and thell them not to be in hurry to import the Virtus yet.. Although.. If it may come already improved.. Where is the fun in that? Just an hour ago I shot my co2 MCX after putting it back together last night. Dialed in the red dot and tested the functions after alterations of internals. Smoothened out the trigger. No tougher resistance at the 2/3 point of the trigger anymore. After that first loose part of the trigger it kinda hit a small "wall" (or a steep climb if you will) that you had to pull over before the trigger got lighter once again before the releasing point. Now it rolls smoother than ever - and will probably smoothen out more with use.. Also renewed the firing pin. The original pin was just pressed in there - so, after it fell out once (an issue others have suffered from also on their MCX/MPXs), I decided to switch it to a steel bolt with threads all through the rear of the gaschamber. Made a longer and round nut on the back of the gaschamber that secures the bolt and also functions as a small guide rod for the spring within the tube behind. Filed also a bit the latch that drops down onto the belt and stops it at the barrel.. Allkinda small things. The first time ever I did not take it apart and put it back together all in one late evening..😂 Just shot one 12g capsule/30rd mag this morning, but it seemed to work promisingly well. Hope it just keeps up like this.. ..And allkinda small things like these I would have been expecting to do on the Virtus also..(just to keep this long last text somehow related to the Virtus😂)...
@AirgunDetectives
@AirgunDetectives 4 года назад
@@brorjordas1979 good job on that trigger work and firing pin replacement! You'll have to do a video on that custom work. I shared that info with SIG that I shared with you. More psi, raised lips in the mag belt, heavy trigger. They advised they are addressing it and the newer version "will have much better performance" I will test one of those as soon as they are complete. I am still waiting on my 1200, 1500 and 1800 psi regulators. Will still test those just for fun.
@brorjordas1979
@brorjordas1979 4 года назад
@@AirgunDetectives I bet you are going to test that improved version.😁 Will be interesting to see how much it may differ from this first edition. After changing that firing pin on my co2 MCX it shoots noticeably harder - or at least as long the co2 has not cooled. Seemed to keep the power up better this morning than before. Had a too long head on the prototype firing pin before, so it only gave about 10 hard shots before starting rapidly to cool too much. But those hard shots gave good results on target - while those sloppier shots also gave a wider spread on the grouping sideways. I mostly want this Virtus to get the cooling factor away from the equation. I dunno - but as if the fps would remarkably affect the sideway spread also. I shot my 30 shots today with an unmodded magbelt - and it seemed quite accurate. Only shot from approx 10 meters (unmeasured) of course - because of not having a clue how much off target the red dot might be. But I am hoping/guessing a harder shooting Virtus might also be more accurate. I hate it when I hear a noticeable difference in the sound of a shot with the co2 MCX - then I just KNOW that a grouping has gotten an awful flyer somewhere. But luckily, I did not hear that today.😁 Just awaiting for your regulator tests. Will be interesting to see the differences in percentage rates between the raised psi and fps.. Probably not gonna do videos. But I do every now and then put up pics on airgun related FB groups of my mods and stuff.. I usually take pics - just for documentation. No need to rely so much on memory - and then cancalways show actual parts instead of just describing them.

@@AirgunDetectives If you will get that gun and how it works or anything, please make a short video or message. :) That is very usefull. I'm thinking also about SIG MCX 4.5 CO2 and convert it to use 12g capsules. I don't know if the power is lower when using conversion, or is there some kind of regulator which takes mostly the exact same amount every shot? For me buying that kind of stuff like PCP scuba tank, or pumping on the shooting range for half an hour makes it difficult to fully want to buy that kind of gun. Anybody know if that conversion for MCX 4.5 is worth it?

Believe it or not I was getting some shots that were 14 ft lbs with my Sig Sauer Virtus using 15.89 grain JSB Exact Jumbo Diabolo @ 630 fps. Most shots were in the mid to high 13’s. BTW, the tank must be removed from the gun when filling with a hand pump when the gun is new or when the tank is empty - otherwise you will hear air hiss out the breach. Also - don’t forget to use a moisture filter between the pump and the tank. You do not want water or oil trapped in your tank to infiltrate your gun and ruin the seals. Sometimes the gun will fail to fire a pellet when the trigger advances the belt, so it’s a good idea to check to make sure all pellets were fired after removing the clip. Also - 120 shots per tank is absolutely correct. That’s precisely what I get (4 clips per tank). Thanks for the thorough review!

@@AirgunDetectives Sure will inform you. What? That I would not leave it stock?..😂😂😉 Yup. I guess you know me.😁 Yes. I do think it is basically same as them co2 versions - but with some parts changed for the use of air.. I gladly woulda gotten this in .177 - just because larger spaces needs more air to fill it up - and I prefer flatter trajectories. I do have now had time to see comments online by other owner's mods and so on. Will see what I dare, can and will be doing. I do though think I'll never go up to a 1500psi regulator mod as someone did. Probably a bit too much imo.. The rifle do state it's max pressure after all - and I would not like to risk my rifle, that cost me over €500 and has no spare parts sold online (as far as I know).. Now. Time for me to open that parcel I received today...😁😁😁😁😁😁 (hope all is good. Thumbs up.)

@@AirgunDetectives Had my own private unboxing last night.. Dunno where the copyright texts are. Not sure where to search for a date-stamp. But I think I got a "First Edition"...🙄 -First thought truly was "Wow! This seems a bit heavier.". But the bottle wiggle is just..Wow! Never noticed that kind of a wiggle in review videos. And after putting the bottle onto it - the rifle front also started kinda sounding odd. But I guess it is because of the loose handguard fit and a two-part plastic outer barrel/shroud. I never kinda realized the outer barrel being polymer (wtf? I woulda preferred aluminium myself, absolutely) - and the two parts not fitting that well into each other, and may draw the shroud into a left or right tilt when the inner barrel end cap is tightened against the front part of the outer barrel. I think the outer barrel joint needs some slight, fine redoing so that the outer rim of the outer barrel joint is compressed into each other and not the slightly too long flat head-cut fitting.. I do kinda like the idea of this outer barrel. Inner barrel screwed in, outer barrel attached around it, a nut draws the inner barrel while compressing the outer shroud/barrel tight - but the parts could have been done better and be more refined. The inner barrel sticks alone out from the receiver very sturdy - but after the installment of the outer shroud and handguard..THEN you seem to get some movement in the front also.. Tested my DIY electric hand pump machine for the first time with an actual bottle now. Only pumped the bottle up to the green zone. I had to test that one too of course, to see if the bottle sorks as should. Gonna test shoot the rifle "as is" at first of course. Then can decide if I truly wanna keep this one or just send it back - and buy from another retailer that most probably now got of the second batch.. But of course I'd wanna keep this one.😁 I kinda like the idea of the challenge that I've been sant. But only if it works as should, without any accuracy expectations and all. The internal mechanical action seemed good. The cone behind the mag gets moved fully out before the piring pin gets fired. The mag sits sturdy and goes all the way up without any up-down movement. The belt stopper fork moves all the way down as it should.. All this could be seen within the magwell. The trigger just needs to be worked in - or given straight away a filing/polishing job.😁 But, will see. Gonna have time all by myself next week. Good time to test shoot - and maybe tear it all apart if deciding to keep it, which I most probably will...

@@brorjordas1979 the bottle usually stabilized once it is full of air. In my opinion not a big difference in performance between Gen1 and Gen 2. They only had Gen-1 out for a few weeks over a year ago. They recalled them from the distributors. The odds of you having a Gen-1 are very slim. Somehow I think you'll make a good shooter out of it. Keep me posted 👍

@@AirgunDetectives I do have read the bottle oughta stabilize after filling it up - but also read that according to Sig it is not supposed to be sloppy like that at any point. Someone patched that up by just adding a couple of o-rings upon the regulator neck so it'll hold stiff against the rear of the rifle. But I'd wanna fix that bottle wobble internally - if taken the rifle apart. Seems like loosely fitted internals to me. Kinda odd though. The co2 MCX had very well fitted parts whenever they were meant to fit tight. Okay.. Thanks for the info! We usually do get late shipments of all products over here in FIN. Therefore I'd then not take it as a gen1. Especially if gen1 taken from the market that fast. Tested pumping just the bottle last night. Slowly got pressure built. But now gotten to think ifbI oughta have pumped it when attached to the rifle.. So I now decided to empty the bottle by twisting it slowly onto the rifle and let it leak out. Dunno how these seals hold up a full bottle. But apparently air also came out thru the barrel - which now means of course that the valve inside is leaking..🙄 Just getting a steonger urge to just take it apart..😂 I did after all also void the warranty on my co2 MCX before getting to shoot a single shot with it.😂 No idea why this all is happening to me..😂😂😂

Hi there Airgun Detective. I fell in love with the sig sauer and preordered mine. It should be arriving at the end of october. Thanks for the review. I had a closer look at this rifle. It has a barrel twist rate of 1:8. That is what i always have been looking for. Also and a big also. It has the very same cylinder as the airforce escape. Without the regulator. It should therefore give you about 1100 fps with the eunjin 32 grainers or maybe you can use nielsen slugs. There is so much potential in this gun. I calculated as a hunting rig. 40ft/lb would give you 32 shots ie. Enough for the mag of 30 rounds before a refill. Please please do a review with the airforce escape bottle and if it still runs at 11ft/lb then when i get mine i will refit mine with the harper valve for better shot count. I have the same set-up in my daystate regal and i am very impressed with it. I also plan to fit mine with a hugget moderator as it will be very loud. Please do that test for us. Thanking you in anticipation. Take care.

I tested the 1st generation model with a 1200, 1500, 1800 and a 2200 psi regulator. It had no effect on increased performance because in addition to the bottle regulator, it had an internal regulator set at 1200 psi. The extra pressure caused miss-fires with the semi-auto mechanism. I was hoping it would have been like my .25 Gauntlet. I ramped that up with a larger bottle and regulated that to 2200 psi. I am getting 58 FPE out of that. I was hoping for increased results with the Virtus but it didn't happen. I was a bit frustrated with Sig in that the Virtus could have been so much better.

I also now have one of these, I've padded out a sock with some flat foam packing and slipped it over the tank covering the manometer and fill point. Have you got the semi auto function back to working, if not check out UK youtube channels, you will have to observe carefully, cos you wont get any verbals. That FPS is way to low for hunting IMO for a one shot kill IMO, 650fps is definitely weak for a PCP or even a break barrel however, hopefully they upgrade the FPS a little for the .22 cal because I can’t hunting effectively except maybe for rats. The UK dumbed down equivalent, requires a forward push on the trigger to take subsequent shots. A simple external remedy can rectify that, if you check out other youtube channels. @@harryzero1566 I actually tested the trigger pull on camera with the belt removed from the magazine. I was totally surprised that trigger registered at 9 lbs. I tested it about 6 separated times with and without the magazine with the same results. You would never guess that trigger was even close to that weight. The pellet that works the best, GTO, is made of an alloy rather than lead. The skirts maintain their shape better than the lead after they are pushed into the belt. The belt actually causes small cuts or grooves in the pellet skirts. That causes an unbalanced trajectory and affects the accuracy. I am going to modify a belt and attempt to reduce the groves. Good to know...are you talking about tightening the barrel sleeve after you remove the muzzle brake? Also read the comments I just released today. It's under the video in the description portion. Sig will be addressing some issues and releasing a revamped model this summer.

Does this guns dust cover open? And can you hunt grouse with it?

So is the trigger pull so heavy because it also indexes the next pellet or is that powered by the air? Also can it be adjusted. Im looking at this because i actually want a low power PCP. Semi auto is just a plus

I would have never guessed it was a 9 lb. trigger. I would have guessed 5 at the most. That belt is light and smooth so it is just the mechanism. I tested the trigger without the magazine with the same results. But, I kid you not, it is pretty smooth. No adjustment but I would guess it will get even smoother in time.

Great Video.....Got a quick question that Nobody is really talking about they just do promo's for these guns. Why do these guns stop working just after a few hundred rounds, suppose to be 15.000 rounds ?? I'm on my third one....... Sig has replaced two because it could not be repaired and the FPS is far less than 600 to 700, more like 350 to 400 fps, somebody needs to get the facts right! thank...... keep up the good work.

Mine leaks air now if the tank is attached to the rifle and I only have 500 rounds through it. When they advertise FPS, this is the case with many manufacturers, they use alloy pellet or a really light lead pellet. So your common pellet does not achieve the claimed FPS. The more I studied this rifle it is not built on a PCP platform. It is designed on a Co2 platform and adapted to shoot in a PCP style. Regardless, when it is functioning it is really fun to shoot.

The co2 versions often stop firing due to the firing pin popping outta place. (The pin is just pushed in there by force. I think no glue has been used). As a result all seems good - but no gas get released. Then you often can hear the pin rattling inside of the gun. Happened to my own MCX once too. Easy fix though. The Virtus can also leak. Many do not lube them due them being classed as a PCP rifle. But some drops of silicone oil into the rear of the Virtus before attaching the tank will keep the valve lubed and working all good. No need to lube that often though. I've now shot about 2500-3000 shots thru my Virtus and I've been all good. I have though had the Virtus apart lots of times - but mainly for other reasons (plain interest at first - and later on some power and trigger tuning etc). But the Virtus has worked way well for me at least. I have not put mine away ever since I got it (probably 4 months ago, maybe). A way awesome can killer!

@@AirgunDetectives I have had mine for about 18 months now and have put hundreds and hundreds of pellets through it and just recently I noticed that the pressure was dropping when left for a week or so.
