[SIGGRAPH 2018] FoldSketch: Enriching Garments with Physically Reproducible Folds

FoldSketch lets designers add folds to a garment via schematic annotation strokes. It produces new garment patterns that facilitate the formation of the desired folds on real and virtual garments.

It's something I never considered but wow! Seeing it this way and the clarity of your presentation now makes me wonder why everyone wasn't already talking about it. Congratulations and I have a deep interest as a 3d animator consumer in this! Good luck along the way. Do you then sell the algorithm? Do you market it as a stand alone product? What's next?

Hello! Thanks a lot for your interest and acknowledgement to our work! Since the current FoldSketch is only a research prototype, we are planning to do more follow up works to make it industry level and probably incorporate more new features, then maybe you will see it in some garment design software.

Hi, Minchen Li! Your work left me speechless. I've been watching your other videos about smoke and fluids. I must congratulate on your fantastic results! I was wondering if there's a page where we can follow your work, and, especially, if you have a plan on releasing this piece of software (foldsketch)! Is it ever going to be available to the public? I think it would greatly benefit the 3d community, especially those who would like to learn how to create cloth of different kinds without having to go the full route of learning sewing, folding etc. in depth. Thank you for your incredible work!!

Thanks for your interest in our work! We have a project page for FoldSketch here: www.cs.ubc.ca/labs/imager/tr/2018/FoldSketch/ Right now FoldSketch is only a research prototype, but it may come out in the near future when it gets polished to industry level.

This User Study tho.... How the heck could anyone without disabled vision point at B? Did you also ask blind people and they were randomly choosing or what.

Well, the user study just shows that simple intuitive ideas usually won't work, and previous methods also works poorly because they did't consider physics.
