Great overview, thanks Toby! The focus hold is a very interesting touch, but difficult to overcome 3 times the weight of the Sony 14 1.8. I think this is a great option if you're only going out for astro, but not to go in my bag with the rest of the gear for a multipurpose trip. Also, can we spend a bit more time on the tripod collar and dovetailed foot? Come on manufacturers we want a foot that DOESN'T need something bolted on to make it usable!
I personally settled on the Sony 20mm f/1.8 for my work - I agree that 14 is wide... but I certainly would like to have that focal length as an option sometimes :)
Great video! That’s exactly my concern, the weight, but for the other side this is exactly what Astro Photographers where screaming for, a wide angle lens with the fastest aperture, what a dilema !,
The coma and star wing at the really edge of the frame , GM is obviusly better. (video time 6:52) I wish you could show the image comparison in term of sharpness in the middle of the frame between Sigma vs GM .... and that would give us for the conclusion in term of that.
It would be fantastic. This is actually where this lens would really be worth it - with active aurora you can use f/1.4 and keep those shutter speeds short for great detail.

@@photorectoby I understand - and its nothing personal at all :) Yeah im sure their "old" 14 mm is still amazing. Not that im into astro. Took a pic of the moon once with sonys 200-600 from my window. Googled settins and it came out amazing. Thats all the astro I can brag about :D Thumbs up still for the video though :)
