This is the ballad of Sigmundur Brestisson, the man who brought christianity to the Faroes, by orders of King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway. Lyrics: fotatradk.com/k...
@@nicholasoneal1521No, the Christians won, don't you see the present Faroes is Christian? The heathens only won then, but Christianity is the true winner.
@@AmosBatistaTróndr didn't kill Szeimundr, Szeimundr was killed by a greedy farmer, so Tróndr literally failed in his duty to kill Szeimundr and now the Faroe islands is Christian.
In true Viking fashion it is about one of the bloodiest men ever fought up here in the north, IE Battle of Svold 1012 Note the logest song and dances are the second longest in the world aftr the Egyptian telling about Baibars
is this dance popular only on the Faroe islands, or it was typical also for Denmark, Norway and Sweden? It is amazing! I was looking for some authentic Danish/ Scandinavian dances for such a long time! Please, if you know some others, comment with a link! Thanks!
Fani Dimitrova The Danes no. If I remember correctly only some Swedish do it‚ and the Norwegian have stopped for a long time ago‚ it's known a Faroese Folk dance (Chain dance) or Kvæði.
It's of the west nordic culture. Norway did this until the danes and swedes made it east nordic. The only west nordic countries today are Iceland, Faroese and maybe Greenland, although mostly natives live there.
This type of ballad singing and dancing originated in 13th century France, from where it gradually spread through the courts of Europe and eventually became popular also among the common people. When the Faroese ballads are from, no one really knows, could be anything from 14th to 16th century, some being older, some younger. But the concept itself is southern French.
THESE REMIND ME OF A DANCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS FAROESE DANCE IS THAT THEY SING AT THE SAME TIME AND THE SONG IS VERY HARMONIC, I FEEL CALM LIKE IN A BUDDHIST TEMPLE.
Hej! Jag gör en film om Färöarna och skulle vilja använda några sekunder från den här filmen. Kan den ansvarige utgivaren kontakta mig så vore det toppen?:)
