It may just be a marketing move. Remember Ign's Witcher season 3 review? Ign was also complaining about it being too book-accurate, meanwhile season 3 continued destroying the books. May be the same with Silent Hill 2.
@@rockmanzeroxexedash Are you guys smoking crack. It's not the looting aspect it's where they are located. In SH and RE OGs more often than not they were visible when you enter a room, not hidden in a cupboard. If the expectation becomes "hidden" then naturally your gonna be focused on scrounging every cupboard rather than the counter top. it's literally going back to the PS1 days of constantly clicking the X or O button trying to see if theres something hidden on the ground.
@DisappointedBuddha welcome to survival horror, where large ammo crates and health stems aren't in every corner of any given room. Did you think this was an FPS or Action/Adventure game? Honestly, why would you expect to walk around a haunted town and everything you need to survive is just conveniently laid out on the counter for you?
That's IGN for you. Sounds like this guy didn't even revisit the original before playing this. It's either too faithful or not so faithful and either way someone's gonna be butthurt about it.
Exactly. He’s probably 20 years old and never played the original. I’m 45 and loved the original silent hill and silent hill 2. Bought them both on release day back then.
Yeah, not sure why that's a criticism. Nobody wanted this remake to stray too far from the original. Updated graphics/controls/camera, but keep the dialogue, story, atmosphere etc the same.
@@cvampaul yes, but who likes to press one button for like 2 minutes and watch how enemy falls down and wakes up over and over again. Its been 20 years since the original release
So much complaining in this preview. Faithful voice acting is a huge plus. I'm happy Bloober seemingly hasn't added any new elements as they're not the creators of this franchise. It worked for capcom since they created RE. Bloober was hired to remake SH2, and it looks like they've done an excellent job
Ironically a lot of folks that did the original were brought on for the remake but want to drastically change everything as opposed to Bloober wanting to retain to the original.
Seriously? First people raise all hell to make sure that it’s a faithful adaptation, and now we’re saying that it should’ve taken more creative liberties? The complaints on this one are pretty ridiculous to be honest. Resident evil was able to get away with more changes because, while the games are great, It’s never really been known for having a serious story with strict character arcs. On the other hand, Silent Hill has always been a story-driven series, and the character arcs are written in such a way that changing even small details would alter the narrative entirely. A game like this SHOULD NOT be taking serious, creative liberties, so I’m thankful to hear that Bloober is doing their part faithfully adapting this masterpiece.
And they have givers even more exploration of the town my only complaint with Silent Hill to original is it all the doors were locked now it appears we've got more freedom to explore which is incredible
Bro yall previews and reviews have fallen in quality. How can you complain about looting when it’s a survival horror. How is it playing when it’s a remake of the original game? It’s a remake…..
@@IGOBYTHENAMELOVE Adapting to the times while also keeping the same story and aesthetics as interesting as they were originally. That’s Resident Evil’s bread & butter and they’ve used it to solidify their new entries like Village in a preexisting storyline. Because of their success, other companies have taken notice and tried their hand which this remake is clearly doing.
Honestly it feels like bloobrr cant win no matter what they do. Whatever they do people will move the goalposts to justify their bias against the remake
They've been moved a fair few times since it was announced. First there was worry about bloober changing stuff and everyone wanted the story and characters to remain unchanged and bloober has kept the story and characters unchanged but apparently thats still bad cause its too safe Damned if they do, damned if they dont basically
Bloody Christ. Resident Evil this, resident evil that. Silent Hill is Psychological Horror. You're never gonna see a countdown final boss with OP weapon for the protagonist in silent hill.
He wanted to make a resident evil video but was tasked with a silent hill 2 remake preview. Also the looting complaint is crazy when exploration is major in every game. Looting drawers is an upgrade not a hindrance IMHO.
@@PumKnH3D of course it's gonna get compared, this remake would never get off the ground if Capcom didn't show devs you can save money on resuing a story and just remaking the graphics.
does this mf not get that Capcom created RE2 so of course they could take more creative liberties, while Bloober team was hired to remake SH2; of course they can't take as much creative liberties! the unfair comparisons this mf spits out every 10 seconds!
Sick of these fake SH fans jumping the hype train complaining about everything, rushing Konami and Bloober, complaining about things in the game that’s literally in the OG game.. I’ve been a fan since 99 and have been through the ups and downs with the series.. That being said, you don’t understand how lucky we are to be getting this remake.. the series has literally been dormant for years. I’m hyped for this game🎉
yes, team silent was heavily inspired by twin peaks and david lynch, and the dialogue in sh2 especially sounds just like his work sometimes, especially that classic maria in the jail cell scene
Did this company not get bad press for making ammendments? And then they've went back to keep in it faithful and the reviewer is saying he doesn't want that? As someone who only played the silent hill 1 demo when it came with Metal Gear Solid back in the day-this is a big welcome for me.
From playing some of their other games, Blooper NOT taking any big swings was the best call they could have made. I'm actually kinda excited about this now
Absolutely no one asked Konami to remake the game that proved video games are an art form, but considering they did, yeah, people are gonna complain when it's watered down into consumer slop.
I'm definitely looking forward to this, it looks excellent and definitely captures quite a tense atmosphere. Bloober Team actually did a great job all thing's considered. Can't wait to finally play this.
I’m actually really happy to hear just how faithful this remake is to the original, especially considering it’s already been overly (and often harshly) scrutinized with every detail. As opposed to Resident Evil, Silent Hill is not exactly a series you can mess with without disappointing pretty much everybody. This is a game that should be left as it is, and I’m happy Bloober Team has stuck to that plan.
Wait you said there is not scary part of the game but then monster jumps on you while looking at the item? You said you dont like loot but you like RE games that have loot? Wtf is going on with this preview?
Why you comparing silent hill to resident evil, they are completely two different game, and also comparing black myth to souls games when delevopers said that their game isn't about souls like genre how in the world this ign reviewing games, they are literally don't know anything about gaming
The dude is complaining like the game shouldn’t be a survival horror when this series has been always survival horror. 🤣 Playing it too safe. That’s what we want with some new added features that don’t change the game. IGN please choose other better reviewers for your hands on previews that aren’t clowns. Comparing silent hill to resident evil really shows that the reviewer doesn’t know crap about games.
Why in the hell is every single English-speaking commentator for these mainstream video game sites British or Australian? Why can’t we just have an American?
Silent Hill 1 has already been "remade/reimagined" as "Silent Hill: Shattered memories" so they would have essentially be remaking a remake again, similar to how Capcom did RE2 RE2 remake Because RE1 was already remade.
6:26 all that was LITERALLY in the original game. You search the area, you find goodies, like bullets and health items. You need them, Silent Hill doesn't like to hand those out like it's candy, unlike Resident Evil. This is Survival Horror. Get used to it if you're gonna play it.
DUDE THE GAMEPLAY LOOKS SICK!!! SILENT HILL 2 REMAKE LOOKS GREAT AND THE FOG IS MATCHED LIKE THE PLAYSTATION 2!!! I CANT WAIT FOR SILENT HILL 2 REMAKE!!!
Why this guy is comparing An Action based horror game like Resident evil with a Psychological horror Silent hill . Please IGN for the love of God keep this guy away from the silent hill review. He dont know anything about this game .
It's been surprising how few updates/previews Konami has released for such a highly anticipated game, especially when the release date is less than 2 months away. Nice to see a review even if it's just for the first 3 hours.
Looting is bad ? In a survival horror when it’s the essential game mechanic of this genre ? Ign journalists truly have no idea what they are saying Absolutely lost all the credibility
Can this guy shut up about Resident Evil? It's blatant that he's the expert of RE and not Silent Hill, his review is uncredible because those two games are so different
6:39 The flashlight is one of the most important items in the game, like the radio. Also, literally, the original scene was made this way. You pick up the flashlight, then Mannequin jumpscares you. There's not a lot of jumpscares in Silent Hill, but the ones there are earned
Over the shoulder view? More like behind the shoulder considering James is almost as tall as the screen. Why the hell would anyone in game design choose to put a character on screen like that? It's such terrible placement.
@@K2NGG That's. No. The original four were all by the same dev team inside Konami, every game after the original four was by other devs, and every game after the original four is hated foor having many of the design decisions that SH2R has.
