This game was popular enough in Japan (where it's called rAf World) that it was re-released on the original Playstation on Sunsoft Memorial Series Vol. 5 with Hebereke (aka Ufouria). I don't notice any enhancements, but there a few regional differences in the sprites, mainly the main character. Kinda neat, though.

Too late! After I beat my other original collection NES games (i.e. the ones I had growing up) that you had videos for, I beat this one. The only games from that set I haven't beat are Golgo 13 (love it but it's long and difficult), Superman (I don't hate it, but it's not good), Godzilla (I do hate it, and it's super long and repetitive), and Ghostbusters (not as unbearable as Godzilla, but still not very fun and I couldn't even beat it with Game Genie, so idk) Not counting games like Tetris or California Games that you don't technically "beat".

You made this game look unbelievably easy. I'm disappointed that you didn't mention the Japanese version of the game, which is known as _Raf World_ , and has a totally different protagonist, a totally different title screen, and a developer credit on the Japanese title screen.
@actionvestadventure
@actionvestadventure 3 года назад
Yeah, they lose the Terminator license but the Japanese version still has what is most likely the soldier sprite from the original concept. Why they decided to redesign it to a slightly more cutesy main hero for the US release is beyond me. Then again there were a lot of interesting design changes when games where translated out of Japan back in those days heh.

Helpful addendums: I'll note that the faster enemy that spawns at 16:28 starts at a different height than usual, so if you don't jump to attack, your first shots will miss, and you might not be able to kill it before it goes below the floor. It will come back up under you, and it can overwhelm you, so save yourself the headache and jump to attack it, as shown. There are one or two others like it, but you can see them in the video. While the video did touch on this, I'll also emphasize that, after the elevator at 17:45, you don't want to move left at all. It makes the first enemy that spawns after you start heading right harder. It may be helpful to know that the bouncing spikes in level 4 only pause when you jump over them, so if you just watch and wait to see when it happens, you might be a little confused. For the floating blue guys in level 4, if you advance the screen just enough to get them to spawn, they'll fire once and then do nothing, so you can take them out without using ammo, which he demonstrates towards the end of the stage.

It's tough, but not too tough, The "weight" of the character takes a little getting used to but the player easily can get the hang of it. I like the design choice of "longer levels" with an easier boss fight. I need a sequel!!! LOL..... ALSO on the 3rd level mini-boss you can hide between his legs and use homing missile, he can't hurt you.

Battletoads that game was awesome and insanely hard. Ironsword (wizards n warriors 2) was another cool infuriating hard game.... what else... ducktales, rainbow island, timelord....mario bro's 3 ( Mario bros 3- i remember the movie the wizard totally WRECKED that game! Limited continues is usually a sticking point for me, but Journey to Silius is short enough that it doesn't feel like a couple of hours just went down the drain when you run out of continues at the end, like Blaster Master and Turtles do. And the soundtrack is so good. I think only NES soundtracks I prefer are Ninja Gaiden II and Solstice. I always see this game compared to Mega Man and Contra, but I don't think it feels much like either of them, though those are probably the closest comparisons. I'd say this is maybe halfway between those two in how it feels.

Just completed the game yesterday, went blind. Glad to join the club, unfortunately the game feels somewhat rushed/unfinished and a bit on the easy side. Still good to play.

Good video as always. I wonder how wide of a distribution this game had back in the day. I don't recall ever seeing it for sale or rent, and none of my friends had it, even that one kid who had a bunch of games.

This channel is so amazing. Every time I see a video I expect to look down and see it was uploaded 12 years ago. It has the vibe of classic RU-vid

I'd like to see Sunsoft's Gremlins game eventually. I rented that game for a weekend, but it felt a little too difficult to play in a weekend, and I was too young to think about how I was playing it.

I remember beating this years ago. I always wondered what was up with the intro saying it was about terrorists, then to fight robots the whole game. Then I heard it was based on Terminator, and everything made sense. This has the most 80s soundtrack I've ever heard.
