I particularly love these videos with both of you brothers. It's evident I don't have to tell you not to take that special, respectful, loving relation you guys have for granted. I had a brother that I miss. I was a tech for 25 years and my hobby was lifting so we have things in common. Gotta say Danner, (James) has some pretty big forearms. Maybe an unusual emotional post but it's that kind of morning. Felt like shootin from the heart. BTW I'm glad you gave "props" to the manufacturer of that kit. Very impressive detail with shoulders on the bracket and beveled bolts etc. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos! Take care guys.

Great video work on this job! It's tough to pinpoint exact locations given how tight components are placed. I still believe that removal of the center steering link would have greatly facilitated installation of the front differential. Big plus having the alignment rack and a brother with an arsenal of tools to help do the job. Two Pgh guys turning wrenches while the old ladies are calling saying "Are you coming home soon,dinners in the fridge, I'm going to bed!" Nice departure from the diagnostic side of " Scanner Danner". Keep up the great work and thanks for letting us in the shop to watch.

You will still be limited on the amount of lift from the top out pads topping out. I would suggest leaving about 1/16" below the top out pad. If you don't leave this space it will ride like hell as it bounces off the top out pad. Also make sure the shocks are using the correct size upper bolt, the factory tends to slam in a 7/16" bolt on the upper shock bolt but you really need to use a 1/2" bolt or there will be play in the upper shock bolt that will also destroy ride quality. All these lift kits really do is set the axels closer to level as you raise it using the keys. In most cases you don't even need to use the special keys in order to raise these trucks, you can just crank on the bolt which doesn't really hurt anything if you follow the other directions I just posted. Been there and done this. You will also need to align the front end after doing all this.

@leebarnes655 8 лет назад
+Rod Palm They like that 7/16 bolt for 1/2 inch hole trick on motor mounts too. Insane to let a motor romp up and hammer the hole like that. I can only assume that the assemblers get final call on this issue and since they can almost always make it fit easy and quick they get to do this. The holes are like .5mm or less from 1/2 inch bolt size - insane in the membrane over at the house of Chevy.
@rodpalm6398
@rodpalm6398 8 лет назад
+Lee Barnes, Yes the outside part of the holes are a bit undersized for the 1/2" bolts but the hole in the shock is clearly made for a 1/2" bolt and if you don't use a 1/2" bolt those shocks will rattle around every time you hit a bump. So you just need to use a dremel for about a minute and the 1/2" bolts go right in. I don't doubt for a second that the motor mounts are the same way. You also need to extend the lower shock mounts about 1/2" or else the shocks will top out before you hit the top out pads which you don't want. I would suggest to Danner that he should pay attention to what I'm writing here as I've done this mod years ago and the information I posted here is invaluable to get this job done right.

Impressive kit. I think you will need to check all those bolts for tightness after a few weeks driving just in case. I think you may end up welding that top mount lowering bracket. There would be lots of force on that if you use the 4wd and I could see those bolts working loose over time. Living in Europe this 'high truck thing' is a little unusual to us.

Couldn't you have taken the pass. side extention arm off the diif? if i remember right they dont have much to that. Or unbolt the idler arm off the frame? I was screaming about paint. You know of how much of a struggle that different was .... it was never coming back out. lol Good job! keepin it real! TV mechanics really don't help. You and select others are showing that is indeed a skill.

Its weird that your instructions didn't tell you to weld a plate into the opening of the lower control arm pocket you guys cut off, before the new bracket was to be put on. I have installed a bunch of BDS and Pro Comp lifts and they all supplied a plate that was to be welded in there first for support then install the bracket.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 8 лет назад
+kenman1717 yeah man, not sure, there definitely was no plate to be welded in in this kit. I'm pretty comfortable with it the way it is but then again I have no intentions of any serious off-roading

do you think it's really necessary to add the front diff brackets and lowering it? thinking about doing a 3" lift in my 06 2500hd and have seen some kits not include those brackets and haven't heard much about that other than here
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 7 лет назад
I don't know for sure man but definitely DO NOT use tapered rear lift blocks! I have a video on this.
@14616mdk
@14616mdk 7 лет назад
ScannerDanner thanks for the answer! but i just watched that video, and it makes sense, was thinking that it wouldn't really be necessary to do the differential lowering unless i went with more than 3" my axles look almost exactly horizontal now so i will see how much of an angle they get once i do the kit and see how it turns out and let you know, subscribed and like the channel so far, keep up the good work and have fun haha
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 7 лет назад
If I could redo this lift kit. I would have purchased the extended steering knuckle instead of cranking the torsion bars more with a different key. It would have made for a smoother ride. It's not bad but definitely rougher and you feel all the bumps.
@LarsonFishing
@LarsonFishing 5 лет назад
@@ScannerDanner my Rough country 6" suspension kit came with these rear tapered blocks, it's the knuckle kit. Is it that bad? The geometry is good with no need of high pinion U joints. Thanks

Not sure man, just make sure your angles are correct when you're done. You will absolutely know it on the highway if it's off.

@rhkips

Haha, why do we do that as mechanics? I think at some point we've all gotten some sort of kit--whether for repair or upgrade--that came with detailed instructions about how to install it, and we look at the directions and promptly disregard them, only to realize later that maybe the people that made the kit actually knew what to do to install it. We are strange creatures... :D

Scary stuff, you cut too much scrap the truck. Is that upper mount hole oval for alignment reasons. @ 52:11
@leebarnes655
@leebarnes655 8 лет назад
+James Schrumm I think so, yes. But the inboard hole has some wear in it in addition to the 45 degree oval at 51:19. Not wheel alignment though, just for setting CV joint flange to be square with the world for maximum CV joint life is my take on it.

Does Danner drink beer? Cause you owe him 2 or 3, after this one!! And those saw blades. THEY AINT CHEAP!!! I bet you spent more on saw blades, than the lift kit!! While I'm thinking about it, you guys haven't whacked your skull on anything (I mean serious, like bloody whacks), or crushed your knuckles with that diff, yet!!! If I had been there, I would have already been to the ER, twice, for stitches, and once to reset the broken fingers!! If you ain't bleedin, you ain't having fun!!! So glad I'm just watchin, THIS TIME!!! HAPPY EASTER!!!!
