Great video, can't wait to see what you used to cut the frame, a few years ago I used to install lift kits and have probably done about 50 chevy trucks. I always used sawsall with an 8 in blade. And trying to weld on the frame was always fun with the waxy under coating catching on fire.

Hey Paul, that new black piece your brother installed is referred to as the anchor, which is held in by the saddle and adjusting bolt. Once you start cutting the frame there's no going back easily! Looking forward to part 2.

We did one on a pretty much brand new truck it was pretty easy to install. The cutting does make you a little nervous but it ends up not a big deal cause you weld in the new peices solid.

Thanks for this, I'm putting torsion keys on my Aspen this weekend so I can fit 33x13.5 mud tires under it and knew nothing about how they worked :) I might need longer shocks and heavy duty ball joints and maybe a upper control arm too but we will see.

Be happy with what you have, there isn't a lift kit out there that does no harm to something on a given vehicle.

With a bit of fender bending you can fit 295's on these trucks which not only look better but the extra traction make the brakes work much better because the stock wheels truly suck on these trucks. I have a 96 2500 with the same suspension which hasn't changed much at all.

Awesome process. I watched all the videos. I'm now thinking of buying this lift. It says on the website you can buy shock boots of different colors. Did you buy them? Do you need them? What color did you pick? How many did you buy if you bought them?
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 7 лет назад
I bought 4 of the black ones but never put then on. One of the technical support guys from that company actually told me not to put then on as they just trap dirt and moisture.

Ball joint press will work for this but you better bring your brains to work with you that day because it can get iffy real quick. I ruined one adjusting bolt by NOT taking as much pressure off it as possible first although it may have been broken already and was just waiting for me to touch it. The bolt was cracked diagonally thru the threaded 'D' anchor such that it locked up, stacking upon it's own remains and was the devil to remove. I came away with - it's best to turn these with the weight off the tires.

@ljchrzan
@ljchrzan 8 лет назад
Suspension modification is not something I like to do. I had a customer want a lift kit installed and I did not have the torsion bar tool. The ball joint press did work, at least on that particular Chevy truck.

HAHA that is what happens if you drive GM's You are spot on. GM likes em low and slow LOL. That is for sure the first thing I do after a trade. But inching toward the "50" mark I found that 8"inches on 35's is hard to get in to LOL.

thx for sharing. is it not normal to rust protect the cars in your neck of the world? your car is in some serious need of tectyl. road salt and no tectyl... not ideal.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 7 лет назад
It's a 2009 and in awesome shape for here. I use a mixture of diesel fuel and linseed oil before every winter. Not familiar with tectyl. Where do you get it? Got a link?

a good lift kit should not involve any cutting! there is always a way to engineer around having to permanently modify original parts. i would look for a better kit.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 8 лет назад
+happy543210 wait for part 3, you'll see why the cutting needs to be done and also how well the replacement piece was built.

Screw all that mess for a lift. Just crank the torsion bar. Done in 10 min. No way a "layman" could do this job proper.
