I love the part where you were concerned about the slots on the passenger side of the front diff and then James starts to remove the bolts and says "I am not concerned about it"

This type of work always gets my blood boiling! I remember trying to remove the front diff on my '89 S10 Blazer - problem was, I installed a '00 Jimmy 4.3 V6 (stripped all F.I. & electronics off - went carb & HEI ignition :) ), and that big aluminum oil pain was right in my way. Then, I had to weld a 18mm socket to a head bolt out of a '00 Ford Focus, just to hold one of the bolts up top. Still didn't quite fit right, so in frustration I cut the hole bigger & was finally able to get in there. After wrestling this thing, laying on my back in my driveway, outside, in 30° temps, I find that I STILL don't have the clearance to drop the oil pan to fix a major oil leak I had at the timing cover. So I just wasted 2 days of effort for nothing! I heard my voice echo through the neighborhood that day ... :D Ended up having to pull the engine, just a year after I had originally installed it. You'd think I'd have replaced ALL the gaskets before installing, right? LESSON LEARNED! :D :D

+ScannerDanner - When I worked at a GM dealer, we would remove the three bolts out of the steering box, that attach the it to the frame, and push the whole unit forward. It gave us just enough room to rotate the diff a little and drop it out.

Paul, you mentioned having pocket screwdrivers, tshirts, and hats made with your logo on them. What about stickers? I think Snap-On should start putting your logo on the Verus, as much as you use one.

Remove the three bolts holding the steering gear to the frame then slide the gear forward and the center link will go with it and give you more room to remove the diff.

Twisting a bushing is true when it settles but the same is true when you jack the truck back up. So really the trick is to not tighten them enough to put the bushings in a bind to begin with. Same is true for shocks with eyelet bushings.

paul u called it mindless work, wrenching on cars, do u feel the same way at the end of part 2? There was several mistakes made because of not THINKING! things out. I don't think u meant any disrespect by saying it's mindless work, it just a different THOUGHT process. Thanks to u and james and the shop for letting us see it as it happens.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 8 лет назад
+rbbbjl1 forgive me, I meant no disrespect. It's just different type of thinking and I agree that even the stuff that we did in this video not everyone can do! It takes a certain skill set to be a mechanic and you either have it or you don't. But no doubt, when it comes to troubleshooting electrical problems, that it is a totally different mindset.

@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 8 лет назад
+Ivan Speranza I apologize my friend. I meant no disrespect. It truly does take a special talent to be a "wrench"! Trust me, I know this first hand from being a mechanic instructor for 16 years. There are super smart people that can't fix a sandwich. It's one thing to know it upstairs, it's another to be able to take that knowledge to your hands. I was speaking more on the amount of variables when it comes to electrical systems troubleshooting and how brain taxing it can be at times. Say as opposed to separating a ball joint. Though I almost kissed that upper control arm didn't I? And that was from not paying attention!

Your brother wasn't getting concerned with anything you were saying. He was having fun ragging on you. You should have heard me yelling just cut the damn thing & get it out of your way! I will say you with an impact looks as much out of place as James would be with the Smart Board. James teaching your class probably would have your students saying what did he say especially if he drew a diagram like in his clogged exhaust video but it would be entertaining.
