Excellent podcast boys, the mid section of this episode should be mandatory listening for anyone wanting to serve the collective in one way or another. Having followed you both for years, I truly feel that you both elevated your game so much and considering that you were both excellent to begin with, this is very telling of where things are going. For the next conversation between you two, perhaps get Shaun T to talk about the world champions he's trained etc. As expected, he has left many of his accomplishment in the dark, his judo days, the incredible level of his Brazilian jiujitsu, the fact that he cold approached a company to apply for a computer engineer job that he knew nothing about, only to write a computer engineering book a few years later. This man needs to be given air time for the collective benefit. If something he says, makes no sense to you, sit on it until it does ;)
I absolutely love that line "If something he says, makes no sense to you, sit on it until it does". Thank you so much for the kind words, and those are fantastic points to bring up in the next episode. The podcast has been an amazing ride so far and with the likes of yourself and Shaun it is only getting better!
Thank you so much for letting me into one of the greatest conversations I've heard in a long time. My brother served our country for 27 years with multiple tours starting in around 91. He retired around 2016/17...He was diagnosed with PTSD maybe 3 or 4 years before retirement. Jordy died by suicide a few years after retirement. I couldn't help him...he didn't want any help. It's like he didn't want to burden anyone else. I also served in the RCAF for almost 10 years...working out of CFB Trenton. I had an idea of what he was going through, but not a true understanding. Thanks for helping others.
I don’t even know what to say. I’m so sorry for your loss. Mental health and suicide awareness / prevention are incredibly important subjects to have light shed on and hopefully better understood, de-stigmatized and proactively worked on. Thank you for sharing this and for your efforts in spreading awareness.
Every time i listen to Silvercore podcasts, makes me a better person. This is just my feeling. I wonder how many more people feel this way. :) Thank you Silvercore and guests !!!
The goal is to bring value to the viewers and listeners with every single episode. I am very happy to hear you are finding value, thanks for that feedback Voy 🙏
My man , this guy is Manlet and looks like a nerd. I’m Canadian too but if you think this guy looks harder than Marcus Capone or dale comstock or should Shipley you just lying 🤥
I mean JTF2 and DEVGRU train and are able operate together and members of both have been known to be apart of exchanges. Aka; don't fuck with either of em because both groups don't fuck about.
Forsure. I just did a class with Jon Thursday Friday from silvercore. It was great, great for beginners like me. He is a top notch instructor for sure.
This was a pretty interesting conversation. I forwarded it to someone who I think could benefit from some of these perspectives. I am interested in how some “high performing/achieving” people would view “chasing failure” but also constantly coming up short and not ever accomplishing the objective. I figure failing from trying for difficult goals would lead to growth, however winning and achieving the goal periodically would be nice. Maybe just me but I could see how never reaching your goals could be discouraging after a while, as sometimes your best isn’t enough.
Good perspective. I took the “chasing failure” as not being afraid to look where you are weak and then strengthening that area. I agree that if you were always failing without seeing any incremental gains, it would do a number on your mental game.
Thanks for the comment, and you are right to bring it up. I'm always pursuing failure but along the way I have successes and see winning outcomes. As for the notable wins, it's just that I don't talk about them too much. I probably should have covered that aspect a bit more/a bit better. Appreciate you bringing it up.
Very well done sounds like I was in around the same time as you yes the military was very different back then thank you for your service and for all our lost brothers
"I'm not going to make that comparison to the other teams out there" You absolutely should! Those of us in the civilian world have a very hard time understanding how you fit into the big picture: you do just about all the "tier one" jobs that are usually specifically ear-marked "green beret", and "seals" and "HRT"... the only special forces job I don't know a specific mission to fit would be PJs, and my gut tells me you folks do that too to some extent. So ya, in a very real way the men and women of JTF2 are comparable to other special units out there: make the comparison and teach us what our armed forces are trulycapable of!
As is often the case, once the cameras and mic’s are off the conversation continues and can get much deeper. That happened here and both Shaun and I made the decision that future episodes were necessary. Every comment gets read and, if applicable to the next discussion, will get brought up.
@@Silvercoreca That would be wonderful! I have always thought JTF2 should be celebrated for the work they do rather than hidden away! I was fresh out of high school when 9/11 happened, had waffled on joining the forces (had my references and application sitting on my night table but with Canadian politics what it is I couldn't bring myself to serve at the leisure of fools). I remember distinctly when the JTF2 story broke with the picture of that ogre in CADPAT with one Al Qaeda over each shoulder: I've often wondered what might have been, but 20/20 hindsight our politicians made a complete bodge of Afghanistan, as I suspected they would: had I been one of the hundreds of the CAF members who gave their lives in Afghanistan only for it to shake down the way it did, I don't think my mother could have taken it.
Thanks for the comment Wilfred. I'm new to the podcasting world, so I'm still trying to figure out how to better communicate some of the things I've learned over the years. As Travis mentioned in his reply, we plan on doing another podcast in the future. I'm happy to cover almost any topic, some less deeply than others. For now, putting comparisons to the side, I think it's fair to say that Canada is well represented in respect to the highest levels of performance and achievement.
@@shauntaylors Also, I've subscribed to your channel, but "Notifications are turned off for content made for kids"... not sure that's a helpful setting for your channel, just a heads up
Thank Gawd Canada has a real hero and rolemodel to be inspired by, in a historical display of our current weak, embarrassing presence on the world stage.
I would like to learn about rapport/relationship building with foreign nations from a SOF perspective. When SOF teams are tasked to train with foreign nations, or integrate culturally, I am fascinated by the process, considerations and challenges faced from a relationship building perspective. Sub-topics for consideration: cultural challenges, good books on the topic, and example situations/scenarios. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences Shaun and Travis; definitely subscribing!
Fucking great podcast. Great interview. And Great Canadian. Wonder if we could get him to run for Primeminister. Perfect representation of what a Canadian man should represent to the world. Also JTF2 are the baddest mofos on the planet . Navy seals hold them in the highest regard.
Great to know that the Canadian PM the world's most powerful and important politician has the ability to defend democracy in all the Worlds hotspots with these special forces! I'm sure they're deployed and no one has any idea.
Don't quote me on that but.... rules may have changed with respect to flat feet and military service, more specifically, if someone has asymptomatic flat feet they may be abler to serve, inversely, if they feel pain as a result of this condition, they may not serve. Something to look into anyways ...
@@x5xruud there are stories out there and lots do not talk about lots. Many different reasons. My buddy said nothing about his time in both CSOR and JTF2. Same goes for others I got to know. I understand why.
You’re never going to hear much in-depth because of the very nature of JTF2. My brother was JTF2…it’s secretive ops. If they talked about it then it’s not secretive.
letter of cease and assist letter to remove podcast really it will stand not hurting unit by trudeau to your boss ino deal ask you all to stand with Dallas
